An 138 year old tea clipper and iconic London landmark, since you're asking. Is apparently burning even as we speak. Or type, as the case may be.

I have no idea *why* I give a shit. There's just something terrible about the last remaining tea clipper burning down or, possibly, being set fire to by some ASBO halfwit. Fukkit.

I was eating my tea. If I had been anywhere near the fire I could have thrown some water at it, but spaghetti bolognese seemed more important.

Bummer - that would be a real shame if it has gone up in smoke. Not too many grand old ships left.

it's true. And I hated history. And I don't even like tea.
It tastes, you know. Brown.
But ancient crusty things are cool. Not just any old ancient crusty things. But ancient crusty things you can point at and say stuff like This is wot boats used to look like when they were made of actual sticks actually stuck together with nails and tar and the skill and time of a whole arseload of actual men. Craftsmen. Shipbuilders. People who could take a bunch of sticks (and nails, and tar etc.) and make shit out of them that worked really well, and that, fukkit, lasted for like a hundred years. The Part-Of-History ancient crusty things, that show you a bit of where you've come from that otherwise you wouldn't have had a chance to see.
And now maybe people won't get that chance any more.
Because maybe someone decided it'd be a laugh to set fire to it.
Like a twat would.

If it's anything like the extremely laughable Edwin Fox "restoration" in Picton, the "Cutty Sark" will be repaired and back on display again in no time.

Luckily it is not under the supervision of the Navy, like the HMS Victory. That ship will never burn since the squids have stolen everything possible, to sell to the tourists...
She will probably will be restored, like Westminster castle was a few years back.

What sort of person does that for entertainment. Wankers. The only thing worse than that is seeing it happen slowly through neglect.

yeah... man.... i cant believe people sometimes... :(
Now that is sad. I visited her years ago. The Brits will not like this. One thing the Brits do well is respect and preserve their history. If it looks old...build a shrine around it.
That's what makes doing your OE to the UK so touching. Visiting places like Stonehenge & co. and really feeling the history. For all we know Stonehenge was just a public urinal, but still so awe inspiring to visit. Same with treasures like the Cutty Sark. No matter how well they rebuild it, it's no longer the work of people that lived in 1869 and that sense of human history is lost.

The papers this morning say that she will be rebuilt. The masts were out, as was the figurehead and ships wheel.
An iron frame with timber planking.
She will end up like the historic "authentic" warbird aircraft that we see flying around. Rebuilt, but with some original parts.

Yea, it doesn't seem to be as bad as it looked. But we have to rebuild her regardless.

On the news tonight they were saying 60% iof the boat wasn't there so a rebuild was almost a sure thing .. and if this had not happened it would not have lasted another 10 years as it was.

Insurance job??? Strangely coincidental.
A massive "Save the Cutty Sark" campaign will begin to raise funds and they get a swept-up restoration.
There really was bugger all inside her compared to the historic artefacts on board the Victory.

It was half way through a 26 million pound rebuild anyway, which is why most of the stuff was out. The iron work was severely corroded, from its 50 years of sitting around, so they had pulled the timber out to get at that to conserve it.

I read in the paper today that the insurance money wasn't enough to fix the ship, so I donno
Now the Titanic on the other hand........
