I've got some old (well, three years or so) gear that's perfectly servicable but surplus to my requirements. Rather than go through the hassle of listing it on Tardme, I thought there might be someone here who needs some gear but can't afford it.
Proper gear is a life-saver. Just ask Speedie, Riff Raff or any of other other resident paramedics what happens when tarmac and skin meet. It ain't pretty ... especially if the rider thought that his nylon bomber jacket was going to protect him. It's bad enough pulling chipseal out of flesh, but removing molten nylon or polyester is a whole new world of hurt.
So ... if you're riding around in a street jacket or jeans or think your ski gloves are gonna protect you, then send me a PM. Please don't ask for the kit just 'cos your bike gear's out of fashion or some other crap. I'm not interested in hard-luck stories. Collect or deliver in Auckland's fine, but I will post if necessary. All I ask is if the stuff doesn't fit, or you replace it with newer gear, you pass it on to someone else that might make good use of it.
Some descriptions:
Nazram Extreme Jacket.
Black. Size S. Cordura / leather construction. CE-approved armour on shoulders and elbows. 1cm thick very dense foam back pad. Apparently has a 'Reissa' membrane - whatever that is. Comes with a zip-in quilted liner.
The jacket is not waterproof unless the liner's zipped in. Much of the leather's perforated so it's pretty good in hot weather. In cold weather, the liner's all I need with just a t-shirt underneath ... but then I'm a Pom so acclimatised to relatively cold weather ;). It's festooned with pockets too, including a dedicated one for your mobile phone (also not waterproof!). The jacket's in very good condition, overall.
Spool Cordura Pants.
Black. Size L. Cordura construction. CE-approved armour on knees and some lightweight completely pointless foam padding on the hips. Comes with a zip-in quilted liner.
The pants are nominally waterproof; they're good for anything other than sustained heavy rain. Unlike the jacket, the shell of the pants are waterproof; the liner's just for thermal insultation. It's got some reflective piping on the lower legs, but other wise it's plain black. The material's become a little frayed at the junction of the main seams in the groin (too many pies, probably) and one of the pocket zip toggles has broken off. Other than that, the pants are in good condition.
Alpinestars Drystar gloves.
Black. Size M. Mainly leather, with a little synthetic leather and nylon. Thinsultate lining with a Hipora waterproof membrane.
Don't let the name fool you - the gloves are not waterproof. I think they're meant to be, but a good downpour will have them leaking pretty quickly. They'll keep you dry in drizzle though. The leather's become discoloured slightly on the back of the knuckles of one of them, but other than that, they're in very good condition.
As for sizing: I'm 5'8" and have a 92 cm waist. The jacket's a little on the tight side, but less so than my leathers and nothing uncomfortable. The pants are also a little tight round the waist, but I can wear a belted pair of jeans underneath them without any trouble. As for the gloves; my hand's 23.5 cm from the tip of my thumb to the point of my little finger. None of the gear has ever been slid down the road.
