Hi
Ive just become a member last night and read the 20 pages.
I want to thank everybody in here for support, views, and to the people that know Big Si, Lom and Toni.
Wicked.
These boys were accomplished Guzzi riders, this was Simons second guzzi, and he'd just scored a written off aprilla (I may have that wrong - if any of si's mates see this and Ive got it wrong please correct me)
And Leon - this guzzi was the LOVE of his life, 98 fuel injected Daytona, with a 2 into 1 exhaust, it handled awesome and it sounded mean.
They loved to go riding, and myself and Leon liked to go on awesome big rides, with clubs or just our extended crew. just like all of you, no matter if its Jappas, Harleys and all the good shit in between.
Im currently in the process of setting up a website primarily in tribute to Leon, but also with future ides, and a statement of how I feel, in general.
If you sent flowers to the funeral home, Im sorry I didnt seem them and Ive got a feeling they went to Leons gravesite.
This has been up there in the scheme of things that really, really... change your life.
Safe journey's..
There will be more from myself, and others no doubt.
Stay away from the centre line!
keep checking into www.badd.co.nz (uploading any minute now...surely)

These circumstances really affected me being a fellow Guzzi rider (well my wife rides it these days).
Wish you well and like others have said, anything we can do to help (Guzziness or not), we're here for you.

There are times in all of our lives when sadness prevails over all else. We deal with our losses and 'move on'. We never leave behind those that we've lost but carry them in our hearts and our memories forever. Other's memories may fade but in our hearts they remain strong and clear.
Stay true. Remember and hold dear to those who've passed on.
Welcome to Kiwibiker - a place for all bikers.

+1 to that.
I have never understood how people can take the chance like that.
There are already so many things that are outside our control that could cause us harm or death. This is one factor we do have control over.
 before I go into a full blown rant...... If you let them drink and drive you are not their friend.

Just read through site as well.. definately very moving & very gut wrenching.. I cried. :weep:
But also.. bloody good on you for putting it together!! :niceone: These 3 precious lives need not have been lost in vain. If the site can make just 1 person re-think their actions, or the actions of a family member involved in drink driving.. & in doing so, save 1 motorcyclists (or anyones) life.. then it has been successful!
This country NEEDS changes in it's systems.. & it takes the courage & balls of everyday people out there, pushing through their loss & grief.. to evoke these changes! :Punk:
I applaud your courage & balls Jos.. All the very best to you & your family.. & to the families of Simon & Toni :grouphug:

Hi and a biiig welcome. And a biiiiig SORRY. I have not seen the site yet but will have a look soon. If you are interested in DUI statistics and the like I have them in abundance, as we ask questions in Parliament almost weekly!
I understand you are wanting to get some changes. Without knowing what exactly I'm wondering if it might be good for you to attend the homicide victim conference that the Sensible sentencing Trust is having in September in Napier. It is a weekend all expenses paid and a few DUI victims are going to be plotting together for the first time.
Megan McPherson is their new drink driving lady. As she recently lost her brother to a typical recidivist - she has PR skills which is great.
You might find something useful on our website and there is a "victim page" that well not a happy place exactly may give you an idea of how others are in this situation, and some things or sites that may help in crazy times;
www.candor.org.nz
We (a road safety trust I work at) do a teeny teeny bit of victim support which will expand later, it needs to as the reports we get are that the govt/police victim support people aren't onto it for road crime vics at all. Sorry if that offends anyone but there are more bad experiences reported than good that we hear of from victims anyway.
PM me an addy if you'd like us to send you some pamphlets on whats normal and what is not for those people and families affected by horrors like this. If not for you you might find they are useful for friends or others perhaps. We got them from a UK charity which has allowed us to use them as we think they're quite useful. Tho not everyone is into such things.
There I go waffling again. Up late doing "homework" and when tired I rave. Ok off to c see ya' site. Glad you came here as this is the best site in NZ
Again sorry about that terrible thing. Made me very angry. Beyond angry - at him and the system in which the many hims flourish. But he does not matter - it is the memory of your loved ones that does.

Yes I was going to say to your earlier post that Guzzi riders Ive known tend to be a little "unique" But right now this affects all riders of all bikes, and at the end of the day all car drivers. Thats just how I feel. Since Leon died the amount of stupidity on the roads locally has blown me away. Please use *555, who knows maybe we can get some twits that shouldnt be driving off our roads

As you can imagine Im beyond angry, Just got through numb, and now Im at the "right, somethings got to be done here" stage.
Im willing to throw myself out there, I am on a few missions, the ultimate being a change to penalties so we actually have some deterrents that will make these idiots think twice before jumping in their legal weapons! I really dont believe any lowering of alchohol will affect any decision making if your a repetitive drink driver. Really and truly the way I feel right now there should be a zero tolerance, but lets face facts, alchohol is a part of our society.
Did anyone see the Herald, the allowance is four drinks in the first hour.
I dont know about anyone here, and I AM a girl but I couldnt drive after four drinks, and Ive asked friends who do have a high physical tolerance of alchohol and theyre saying they would be absolutely trolleyed...so there ya go

Jos it's ppl like yourself who have undergone immense tragedy who get the ball rolling .. stir up the population because you make it real for us ... when the accident happened we on KB felt for the families & expressed our condolences as we do every time a biker falls .. But once we make the connection & after reading the site, it becomes more real .. not that we can ease your pain or grief but we certainly share it.
I agree with Jen .. it takes one person to change laws .. Jen pursued it, the young girl whose face was ripped by a dog (Caroline Anderson I think) .. her dad also persued it .. because of their strong belief & the injustice of the situation .. which in many cases that should not have happened ..
After attending the Ride for Hope several weeks ago & the sobering statistics on suicide in this country, now to become a annual event .. perhaps its time to take the message more to the roads/streets where others can hear it .. be also great to perhaps make a memorial ride in memory of all of those bikers who have fallen to accidents.. Media coverage is always a damn good way to start the message
as reitierated by everyone here .. if you need help just ask .. we are all only a message/phone call away .. huggz to you & your children

Yes, I have had alot of contact with certain media people from when Leon was killed - right through till now, so I have things in place to get big balls rolling, also as we speak i have designed some Tshirts in regards to badd, I have an initial 10, all earmarked already to give to friends and family.
But If im happy I would like to have these to sell via the website to pay for website hosting and domain name "ownership" if it goes over and above that then I'll have to get together my team to help me start the Not-for-Profit organisation.
I also am digging into some *555 issues, and im looking into other avenues and issues, dont like to say too much here in a public space, but I do have my missions planned - like I say my site is under construction, cheers mate:rockon:

Hi again,
Excellent site. The hospital experience as told is powerful and thankyou for sharing your personal stuff - it will save more than one or lives just having done that, I've no doubt. Leon sounded such a good guy - Why is it always the best ones that suffer this?
I will send u some contact details etc later but have to fly as have a meeting with an MP soon.
Just wanted to let you know what is already happening on this penalty issue which is quite a bit right now. Might be bad or might be good time / opportunity to seek changes.
A road safety bill is about to come to Parliament and it will probably propose a new sentencing regime for drug and drunk driving. Submissions will be taken at select committee in a few months.
Secondly the new Criminal Justice Reform Bill is overhauling the entire sentencing system as it is criticised as inconsistent - having no relation to severity of harm.
This bill says in its introduction that it is aimed at clearing prisons out except for the worst violent offenders.
DUI is not classed as violent crime by the Justice Dept. It is a traffic offense.
So the worry is that there will be a trend to less or no imprisonment for DUI.
Home detention is it per my guess. Not very deterring.
So... this is a very important time to be activist on this - none better. There are many victims but not so many who get the medias attention and it is even less common for them to get activist. A handful only are "at it."
Please stick at it, you're needed. Don't let anyone tell you you are obsessed or anything stupid like that. It is a completely good cause. The Govt has been evil in the road safety area. It needs to be stopped and rehabilitated!!
Catcha later.

Thankyou Candor
One cannot be obsessed when planning things in an under control manner, and getting a clear message across.
Im not bothered by what people say.]
Im not righteous.
Im doing the obvious, but it only becomes obvious when it affects you.
Sure send me an email of what you guys are upto there, I may or may not wish to travel the same path, again this is a public space and I dont wish to talk to much out here yet.
Enjoy your meeting

I've read your website a few times now, but "Lives Destroyed" one is very emotional one. It has a lot in common with what I went through when my father died in front of me due to a road accident.
I really admire your courage and strength to go on. He sounded like he was an awesome guy.
Like others have said, we have a space for you if you ever feel the need to visit Welly.
Cheer,
Chris.

Hi Jos,
Like others here we visited your site, were touched by your hospital story and left our mark in your guest book.
Kiwi Bikers are an incredible source of support and encouragement as I discovered while recovering from a nasty accident when hit by a cage in October 05' and being out of action for 15 months.
It goes without saying that if there is anything we can do you only have to ask.
Our sincere condolences and best wishes to you and your family.
Regards,
Bruiser and Marsha

Cajun there is an order form in at Truck Stops on Hull Road, where Leon was Foreman, I have the secretary Dallas on the Job there and she has the form at reception. I dont have any samples down there yet but will try to get a sample of both mens and womens. Im a bit house bound as while I was on holiday on a "break" my little baby has contracted the chicken pox, so as soon as hes better i can get on the move again, and at that point will deliver samples down to Truckstops.
Mens sizing is small upto XXL,
Black with
B.A.D.D << white font
Bikers << white font
Against << white font
Drunk << red font
Drivers << white font
And on the back down the bottom is www.badd.co.nz in white font
Womens sizing is 8-16 - stretchy polyestor also in black with a v neck, looks good quite fitted.
Same white and red font on the front with the website addy on the back
This batch will be unique to locals as I intend on tweaking up a logo for the next batch and have also affiliated myself with B.A.D.D usa who would like to add their logo, but I have issues with that, that I want to iron out before using their logo anywhere...and so on that note is there a lawyer on here that could give me some free? advice on internet laws, domain names etc...
Also I am trying to track down Aaron Slight and have tried different avenues but nothing happening, does anyone here know how Id go about tracking the ellusive slighty?
I will do a google and see what I turn up in the interim..
Also have teed up a John Campbell live interview for somewhere in the next few days (also depends on the chicken pox kid), It wont be live though (Hell NO!) so I will keep people here posted as to when thats expected to air.
So If anyone has free legal advice on Internet laws, please email me at baddnz@gmail.com Also if anyone has any ideas on tracking down Slighty, also please email me
Cheers Guys

Thanks Toto, pretty shitty experience mate - not made any easier by comments I gave Daily Post on Rotoruas Drink Drive problem...which came out yesterday on me birthday, with yet another angle of another photo of the incident. (Reporter neglected to tell me that was the photo theyd use for the article)
http://www.dailypost.co.nz/
Man really sickening, to see my poor mans bike cast aside by a fucking dickhead who shouldnt have had access to a car, who DID not care for his kids or anybody else. Look at this photo people and always remember that you can be going 100kms cruising, using your indicators and waving to motorists as they pull over to let you pass, and at any moment, some fuckhead will take it all away.
3000 recidivists we share our roads with. In BOP we have caught 627 drunk drivers on our roads since Nov 7, 45% are recidivists
In general drink driving and recidivism has rised from 2006-2007.
And that figure will rise unless politicians take a stand to remove these weapons for good - no matter who they belong to, and make deterents within the laws for other road users safety. (Get em off our roads!)
I dont ever want another family to go through this. End of Rant!!!:headbang:
