...Sonia had been riding a brand new motorcycle only two hours off the showroom floor. The road was wet and treacherous. Her bike slid and careered into an oncoming car.

Sonia was slammed into the windscreen before being thrown 3m into the air, crashing back down on the car bonnet and falling unconscious and terribly injured onto the road.

The horrific list of injuries included multiple fractures of almost every limb and serious internal damage.

Sonia was "bolted back together" in a series of painful surgeries in Palmerston North and Auckland and is yet to stay a night in her own home since the terrible "split second that changed my life".

Sonia began fostering children in 1982. In that time she has nurtured the children who have passed through her life, sacrificing herself for those in her care....

Basically Sonia broke almost every limb in a near fatal bike crash last year. She has fostered 158 children. My childrens school is raising money for her on Friday and I know I will try and give as much as I can.

I know her two current foster kids as our company takes them to and from school. They are both "special needs" kids, but the highlight of their week is visiting "Mum" in hospital and can't wait for her to get home again. Many of the local businesses are getting behind fundraising.
With luck, generosity and publicity, their path will be made smoother.

It's a very small world........... Im her son nicholas keenan the one in the article. life hasn't been a bed of roses for my family over the past few years and anything that people feel they can do would be great.

Every week since, due to living and working in wellington I have travelled to what ever hospital she has been in (Parmy auckland or masterton) on sundays to visit her. For anyone that has been in hospital for any amount of time would understand how amazingly boring it is. If you live in the area I would suggest stop in say hi she is an amazing person and a good laugh she would love more visitors just tell her your a KBer.

trust me she doesn't bite and she just got a real cool new electric wheelchair

Shouldn't this be a great story. You've got a great person who's getting their life back together after a horrendous accident.

Guess it depends which way you want to look at things. Good luck with the fund raising, etc.

The main thing that is you are alive and mentally well. It is awesome that you are still keen on bikes/trikes.

All the best for the future.

That's a bad bad hand she's been dealt. No words can come close for my expressions. There's too few good people out there. Just hope this pans out one way or the other.

Good to hear your on the mend!

Good luck with ACC, when I had my accident they took ages to do stuff and once stopped paying me for no reason.. it then took them weeks to start the payments again! Argh!

Mate, I was a bit disappointed you didn't enter the Sprints on that chair. I'll send one of the lads round to rewind the stator (we may have to increase the size of the housing and magnets as well) and we'll stick a gearbox in.

Do you want a wheelie bar as well?

See you in February.
