What's with the the leather jacket and trou covered in bugs and SH-I-TE..I keep my teeth and hair clean, my daks also, so why can't I put some conditioner on my leather jacket without copping flak from my co-riders?

It's like the difference between using soap and shampoo in the shower, and using soap-free moisturising bodywash, two-stage conditioner, toner, moisturiser, eye cream and whatever other lotions and potions sold by heavily-made up women in the smelly bit of Smith and Caugheys.

There's a big difference between being a Metrosexual and keeping your gear in good nick. I'd prefer my leathers (If I had any) were kept durable and waterproof rather than having that "experienced and bug covered" look.

Don't worry your not alone I too sometimes get hassled about my leathers being
clean but I don't care at all,:whocares:
They get covered in bugs just as much as anyone else I just wanna keep them in
good nick as they're bloody expensive.

Who wan't gross bug gut's all over their clothes? Only makes sense to clean them.

Which leads me to a thought on bug guts - I know bug blood is yellow in colour, so when you get home from a ride and you also have a red splatter on your visor/jacket does that mean you've hit a mammal/bird or do some bugs have red blood?

I've seen green bug guts, and red, as well as yellow. When I was down near Geraldine in March there was a big hatch of insects that made white splats all over my gear. I've no idea what they were.

On my previous trip to the South while on my way out to Akaroa, I went through huge clouds of little green mayfly type creatures which I assumed to be the adult form of willow grubs?

Endless variety apparently.

Recently while travelling up to work in the lift one morning the local head of a Government Department started picking at the bug splats on my jacket.
"What's all this?" she asked.
"Dead bugs," says I.
Her fingers sort of turned into claws and she pulled her hand back to her own side of the lift :yes:

Out here in the rural rump we don't got none of that homo conditioner stuff.

Yes I've been through that cloud of bugs. It was on a right hander prior to the straights up to Little River. Funny thing is that when we went back to town about 2 hours later they were still there. Sort of like a bug-lemming-hari-kari thing. Jeez what a mess. Now where's my deodorant got to?

Nout wrong with cleaning the stuff off your gear. I remember looking down at my jacket in the early days and thinking - that looks like Pizza but I've not been eating any!??!! WTF Then - duh it's bug guts of various colourings.

If you're neat and super clean, that's great if you have the time, my stuffs looking a bit grubby, I wipe the worst off and keep on riding in general.

If you've spend a bunch of cash on your gear I'm sure it's worth putting in the effort of maintaining it!

While we are on about bugs, clean that SH-IT-E off your paintwork and chrome (chrome? this is 2007 har har), the guts are acidic and will F your finish. If you care, that is......
