I might be wrong here but I think 186mph = 300kph
I had a Valiant that top out at 145mph (hehe)
The fastest I've ever been on a bike is around 260kph
I have no desire to better those speeds at this point in time... on the road anyway

To work out km/h to mph simply divide by 1.609, or vice-versa. For example 190mph = 305.71km/h.

Thats right...
Only thing thats tricky now, is working out the inaccuracy in the spedo at higher speeds....

or like you know they changed the gearing so it put the speedo out duuuhhhh:dodge:
06 14r/10r run on -10% accuracy to be bang on with gps in most cases. so at 300 you are doing 270 real. speedo healer ftw! edit: also a great way to get over the 299k limiter, make it really go 300 while reading less than the limiter kicking in :)

190Mph = 305 Kmph
yup pretty close
190mph = 305.77536 kph;)
a simple conversion I remember is MPH to KMH = divide by 5 and times by 8
and likewise converting from KMH to MPH = divide by 8 and times by 5

hmmm i just do mph * 1.6 = KM
and if you want the reverse km /1.6 = mph

8/5 is 1.6...

or the tires have a larger circumference at that speed due to the higher rotational speed of the wheels????

that too but only with old bikes
but on newer bikes that makes no difference.....as it reads off the gearbox not the wheel...thus u change a tooth it thinks ur going whatever speed when in relaity the wheel is spinning at a higher / lower speed depending if u go up or down teeth.
ya get it?

Do modern bikers really read from the gearbox? My bike has an optical sensor that reads from a rotating track on the front wheel.
If it reads from the gearbox, how do you compensate when you change the gear-box ratios, sprocket sizes, or wheel sizes?

To convert km to miles, multiply by 0.62....rough but close.

Guess there is only one way to truely check ya speedo at hight speeds ! Find yaself a radar trap and do ya top speed coming up on him ! Then ask to see a callibration cert for said radar gun !

-1 to you mark... if the wheel has a larger circumference it alters the reading the same as a sprocket does... same as more teeth on the sprocket.
Mr Forest...
I believe the sensor + track on your wheel is actually ABS.

Speedo lie like politicians, or husbands who have been out late.
It is possible to do the math on how fast your bike goes, others here have suggested speedo healers - I've used a GPS system (on a private race track of course). You need a reasonable length of road to work it out....

Yet the spoilt self-centred Americans that think the universe exists solely to serve them, are pissing and moaning because they can no longer afford to drive their 5 litre pickup trucks 2000 miles over the weekend to go visit their fat retarded kinfolk in Florida.

I'd go with Skidmark actually....
Sprockets or wheels circumference are after the gearbox. They may change actual speed but the speed sensor does not know this...
So, if you had a 16 tooth and at 5k rpm it said you are doing 60 and you fit a 15 tooth, it'll still say you are doing 60 at 5k rpm. Actual speed may vary though...
That's why people buy speedohealers, to lie and cheat the info from the gearbox, to achieve actual readings...

Which is why old dungers had the speedo driven by the front wheel - only a change in tyre size could affect the speedo accuracy (to any degree) and you could change gear/sprockets whatever without the speedo reading any different.
