Hi all,
just a few questions about the CBTA.
I know in the past CBTA courses were run as a trial programme, but as far as I can gather (through searching old threads on here) they were stopped about 18 months ago. What was the outcome of the trial? Who analysed the data?

But mainly - does anyone know if they'll be run again in the future, or where I could find out?

Thanks

I think it is doubtful that they will be ever offered again as thousands of people used them to get their license sorted and then get on bikes. I think the Gubbmint thought the cost would put people off.

Data? Analysis? Not likely.

Instead, people flocked to the CBTA programme and a bike boom was born.

The Gubbmint DEFINITELY does not want people on bikes.

No, they closed it off because enough bikers went through to make a good statistical sample, and they are now tracking accident stats for CBTA bikers vs normally licensed bikers, you'll see some preliminary results in a year or so. I know I saw something about it somewhere, I'll track it down and post here. Not today though.
It's a long term study, think 5 - 10 years.

Nope.

Officially, LT(S)A ran them on a trial basis only while deciding if they were going to run them permanantly. It doesn't look likely that they will be run again.

Mrs H and I are graduates of the CBTA programme. It was brilliant -- we had full licenses in nine months. If we had known about the scheme earlier we could have had these in four.

CBTA had several worthy objectives, including getting unlicensed riders licensed. Where it came unstuck is that the then LTSA was reluctant to extend the approved providers, some of whom had entered into arrangements with bike retailers, ensuring a win-win for both parties. This led to (justifiable) complaints from non-accredited providers. The LTSA response to this "noise" was to can the whole scheme.

Hi all,

Have been watching this topic closely, so asked a few questions around various driving schools. It would seem the "sample" chosen for the CBTA courses are not crashing any more or less than those plebs who did it the hard way. Word on the street is that Govt is bringing back a similar scheme, but is waiting till car licencing is sorted as well.
Bike CBTA type courses were supposed to start again early August, but now they are saying another few months.
Will believe it when I see it. :scooter:
