It’s called the Meissner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:EfektMeisnera.svg)Effect. The superconductive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superconductivity) disk on the bottom is probably made of zinc, tin or aluminium. When this is cooled, by liquid nitrogen, it causes the magnet to levitate. The floating magnet induces a current, and therefore a magnetic field, and the two magnetic fields repel to levitate the magnet.
I reckon its down to the fairies though. They're fkin everywhere.
