"" Woodhill Motorcycle Park changes hands
The Woodhill Motorcycle Park will have new operators as from june 1 2007. Tony Beuth and Steve Johnston (operating as THE SANDPIT) have signed a long term agreement with Hancock forest management. It is hoped that they will soon be opening on wednesdays to give people the option of midweek riding.
Tony and Steve have informed me that Hancocks are intending to move the beach access 2k down the beach for safety and security reasons while, the bike park parking area will be moved in behind the convict track where they can erect permanent buildings away from interference. They are also promising vastly improved trails and track maintenance and have many other plans in the cooker. The WMCC would like to wish them all the best with their new venture.

Yeah thanks to Greg and his helpers but time to move on with a fresh approach. A decent carpark would be a good start. Good luck to the new guys.
How about an unofficial poll as to which day would be best for a midweek ride?
Thursdays would suit me.

Much good luck to them, hope they have good $$$$$$$$$$$$ backing,

It will be sometime before they can expect a return if they do the work they are hoping to do.

a lot of work needs to be done !

and despite what some think it is not a gold mine !

which raises another point, I wonder how much the entry fee will rise by ?

A great move if they can get ride of the dammed beach access, it has caused some many problems over the years, many near misses with piss head wankers roaring down the road to the beach..nearly taking out some of the bike park riders..

I am sorry for Greg, many might not know that he has already invested $$$$$$$$KKK in a new bike park site further south only to find he has not been succesful in getting the contract renewed. (Thats Life )

One of the things I enjoyed most about my time there (5 years) as a warden (yes I was the grumpy one) and bulldozer operater was meeting other riders both on the ride days, and when we held track cutting working bees, always followed by one of Gregs great feeds.

As has been mentioned, the Famous John Nic often seen clearing tracks and helping to cut new tracks also Humprfs and some of the other kiwi rider mag dudes, have been known to clear the odd trail.

So thanks to all those guys :Punk: who have helped to keep woodhill bike park going !

How about an unofficial poll as to which day would be best for a midweek ride?

It is our understanding, from conversations with the forest management, that Hancocks wanted it to be a 7 day operation? Can this be confirmed? From our point of view, we sincerely hope that the new owners get stuck in and make it happen, good car park, good toilets etc. Being able to get in mid-week for photo shoots will also receive a warm welcome from us. It will be no bad thing to see the back of those whoops too!

Yep, whoops are going, toilets cleaned and working, mid week riding as soon as they get organised, and I heard they are closing the beach access and putting gate on inland so you can't drive in between the green track and the convic, then opening up beach vehicle access thru to 10 mile. No friggingooses any more.

I saw the cops issue trespase notices last week at Muriwai to 5 guys. Maybe things are going to get better.

Fella told me that the carpark and office is way back in the convict at a place called molloy rd. Neva heard of it.

These guys seem onto it. New ideas is all good for me

yeah, about time for a change i say, some changes are well overdue, the bikepark is a great place to ride and deserves better, sure a lot of work has gone into it but f*#k all in the last few years.

I know the Council and some local residents are pushing for Wilsons Road to be pushed through the forest out to the beach (Wilsons Road is an unformed paper road through the forest and is a long way north of the bikepark).

Wilsons rd, what a mare. All the locals wanted beach access and now its a main highway. now they want it closed cause all the randoms exploiting it.

Apparently the bike park will have a moto x track, albiet sand. Could this be done there?

charles23

The Wilsons Road extension is going to be a 4WD track only as the locals think that will put off anyone but the locals from using it, ha what a joke all that will do is attract more hoons from da big smoke.

A motocross track would be wicked, but how about some graded tracks for a start? surely that's not too much to ask for...........

The last two Woodhill Motorcycle parks were awesome with some challenging trails. There were a few more changes in elevation in the first one with a clay MX track.
The last few rides I have had in the current bike park I've been heading bush and just finding my way through the blocks. There is so much untapped potential in there. Areas that tracks may not have been possible to get through when it opened have matured to the point that all the ground fell has rotted and you can ride through it. I'm looking forward to some new trails, and one way to stop the trails whooping out big time is to make them windy. But some whoop sections are cool.

We really need 7 day riding. One option would be to buy a seasons pass, and you get a tag for your bike. This enables you to ride during the week and they don't have to man it all the time, but could do spot checks at various times. No tag, you get the shoe.
Weekend riding would be as normal, a flat fee. There are alot of people that can and need to ride during the week, and many people that work weekends. This could be a win win situation if approached with common sence.

I'm all for seven day a week access and a season pass would be a winner.

the woops wouldnt be so bad if the tracks were a bit wider, when you get them sussed theres no better feeling, when you get one wrong with a tree oe a fence a ft away, thats when they suck!
