mmmmm - Where to start .........

Well, as some of you know I have a TL1000R which is just great however it doesn't have grab rails for the pillion and this is causing an issue for the young lady who rides on the back.

So, heres a little solution I came up with. Please let me know what you think..

If I can find a tidy, low k's TL1000S for about $9k in a bike shop and trade mine in for it. Then with the remaining credit get the bike shop to upgrade the horrible rotary shock and steering damper for some nice Ohlins gear.

I'm guessing mine is worth about $12k currently.

So thats my plan - Whaddya think. Any bike shops listening??? AMPS, WMC ??

Well if you dont mind an S instead of your R then go for it, but dont trade yours because you'll get reamed. Sell it privately.

However, I think all that for grabrails is a little overkill. Surely someone can manufacture rails for you.

So no doubt the bike shops will never go for it. What's in it for them?

Well I thought the getting rid of a 9k bike and getting 12k bike and then some of the diffrerence will be in labour which doesn't really cost the shop anything.... Ya know .??? - I think ....

Ventura has the fittings for your bike, you don't have a to have a pack rack they sell a grab rail and that might be just what you need. Any shop could get you those.

Ventura site here http://www.ventura-bike.com/english/fitments/display.asp?manufacturer_id=12

In other words, why change the bike at all?

Say you do go ahead with it, consider this.
If they think they can sell your R again for 12k to 13k, they'll give you what, 9k trade for it?
Then you end up with 9k for a 9k bike.
However!
If you sell it privately, and get say $12k for it, then you can walk into teh bike shop and offer cash for the S (screw a deal! cash is your friend!), then you could get the ohlins upgrade and maybe walk away with some extra money.

Man - Thats a great price. I paid $12,500 a couple of months ago and mine has 25,000k's on it. - Bugger, I thought I was getting a bloody great deal. All the other bike shops were asking about $15 for the same thing. :buggerd:

So Dold sell direct then? I've normally just bought through a dealer. Any price saving you think?

What he said. Funny how people think they'll get the retail value of their bike as a trade. It just don't add up.

Good idea though.

I think all of you are missing the point here. Isn't the reason they don't have graprails so that the young lady is forced to hold on in a more intimate manner?
Just a thought.

Simple solution you can get here, called "Love Handles" basically it`s just a belt with a couple of handles on either side for your pillion to hold on to,cost you about $30.
"Trading Down" through a dealer is a great way to chuck away a load of money, you`d get rock bottom for your bike and they`d value theirs top whack.Dont forget they`re in it to make money not give it away and you`d probably get offered a really shit "take it or leave it" deal.O.K. if you`re desparate I suppose but a bloody expensive way of geting a grab-rail.
