View Full Version : Famous or Infamous KBers...

I'm in a relaxed nostalgic kinda mood tonight. I got to thinking about a few of our members past and present who make this place the eclectic miasma that it is. Now, some may say that they are famous (in their own minds) and some may say they're infamous. We have people come and people go in our lives and the same happens here in our internet lives.
I'll start the ball rolling by recalling a couple...
Sarge - Unmistakably Merkin and proud of it. A soldier in the most Merkin way. Prone to tell us all the way it should be and why we were so wrong to see things any other way... I miss you Dallas (he's still lurking)
WINJA - The most high vitriolic. His posts of pure anger were a marvel. Not just rants of no particular direction but specifically aimed to single person's weakness usually. Ultimately too successful - unfortunately he chose a God-like target and is no more (here at least)
DMNTD - The one the only (TL Rider) One of the first posts I saw of his he'd been showing his arse to the then Duc Girl (Unit) and found out it wasn't her at all but some other poor unsuspecting biker. A true gentleman and great boozing buddy
The more recently famed are still surfing and may well be named but these are just a couple that I remember with the fondness of the colour that is KB. Feel free to contribute to the list...

I'm uncomfortable with the naming of KB mates in the thread, lest the thread lose it's objectivity. But I did notice that when Scumdog was computerless for a week or so, he was sorely missed by many. Welcome back, SD....
Looking back I've noted a few people that have either moved on, or reduced their input on KB. Some of these people I clicked with, others I didn't. But I miss their input. Sarge, Zed, and NC are a few of the names that come to mind.

Jackrat and Firefight are still around saw them post recently. What about Finn, Dover, Sixpackback, Crazysteve and Winja? Haven't seen them much lately. I thought Cowpoos was with Dover but he seems to have turned. like a worm
yeah Zed was a loss, even if just because of the vitriol that surrounded him. Suggest that if Zed was still around, so would Winja - well he had to direct it elsewhere once Zed left!
Was also going to say Jrandom - but I see he hasnt gone anywhere, just morphed into another alias... probably a long time ago...

Mrs Kendog esp Trudes for her insane sense of humor.. and that particular post (she knows the one) that had me laughing so hard.
Ahh that's nice, would that be the one that involved the words "cock" and "I like"?
And Uncle B...
Me three :(
Probably the KBers that scared me the most when I was a noob here were Spank of course, Jim2, Inline4 and Hitcher (for obvious spelling/grammar reasons)!!
Now the people that are infamous for me are Mr. Dover and Sixpackback, I think they are just hilarious and I always value McJim's opinion, so I think he's kinda famous in my mind. But I love you all really (well, most of ya!)

Love it or hate it the rep system provides a pretty neat barometer of who's famous, infamous or just another gobshite.
There are some prolific posters with very little rep - these are the bullshitters (or at least that's the opinion of those dishing out the rep).
Then there are the Famous ones (Shitloads of posts and shitloads of rep)
Then there are the infamous (Not so many posts but shitloads of rep)
Funnily enough the ones that receive the most infractions seem also to accumulate the most green rep - The_Dover and WINJA are perfect examples.
The general population of KB loves the bad boys don't they?

Went on my first KB ride, ran wide on a corner (as you do when you've been riding only 3 days and decide to take to the open road), wearing a streetwear leather jacket, raggedy jeans, no gloves. He was running a competition for `who deserves a pair of my gloves the most?' I posted in a photo of my bloodied hands, and won. PMs me, asks me about gloves and I cheekily ask... `don't suppose you'd do a student discount on a jacket and pants as well?'. Asks me what size I am... next day, a huge cardboard box with jacket, pants (leather ones as well as cordura!), back protector arrive. Couldn't believe it... still a n00b on the forums... and this guy who doesn't know me gives me several hundred dollars worth of gear? From then on I've been hooked on KB, I'll always remember that debt. Made a huge impression. Once I upgrade my gear I'll be giving it back to KB. Of course he's saved the skin of many a KBer as well.
Ixion:
I managed to destroy my engine, first time broke down because it was dying anyway, second time through my own idiocy in trying to repair it. Answered every single idiotic question I asked, put up with my whingeing, offered so much of his expertise; waded through so many long threads. Without him I would've had to sell the bike as parts, that's the truth. Hasn't posted much recently -- only a couple of posts in a two-stroke thread (of course) -- hope to see more of him around.
Of course there's dozens of people more who pull this community this way and that, and many of them have been mentioned already. I'll second Winja -- my first or second rep was from him; red, saying `Your gay' or something similarly witty :). Had to laugh.

Probably because they would say out loud, without a shred of remorse or hesistation, things that Joe Average either a)wouldnt say out of politeness or;
b) the stuff they wouldnt have the guts to post (possibly for fear of the ensuing shitstorm)
Thats my reckoning anyway

A few people seem to stand out to me...
Colapop - famous for his great hugs.
DMTD - Stereotypical northerner
McJim - laughing scottsman
Skidmark - the jester and butt of many jokes
Joni - lurking shadow of authority
The Dover - self confessed homosexual
Mahaman - bizarre sense of humour
Frosty - highly respected racer and admired by many (including myself)
Just a few that I have come across in my short time on KB.

The people on KB who make it what it is... often the more outspoken ones, but there are others who just make good posts every time they hit submit. Always enjoyed reading the Kendogs posts (both of ya), cowpoos is bloody good value, xerxesdaphat's long thread fixing up his CB250RS engine... others who always seem to add something of value (to me, sorry if I've missed some out): Scumdog, Motu, Ixion, DMNTD... and of course Cola :)
Another one: Gijoe1313. Gotta love reading his posts. :niceone:

There's quite few who stand high in my estimation, those we all know like Dangerous, Jantar, xeresdaphat (for good nature and perserverence) Terbang, 98tls, Nighthawk etc etc - you know the usual suspects.....(sorry if I've left somebody out - I KNOW I've left out heaps that should be here but hey, I've only got a 18.3 second span of attention)
But the 'bolt-from-the-blue' nomination from me is Trashy.
Never met me, never spoken to him but very early on in the KB experience he posted me a XN85 workshop manual free!
His only comment?
"You can shout me a beer the next time we meet"!!
The NEXT time???

When you've been on KB as much as I have you can't read everything. You begin to scan threads/posts for the people who you rate as good posters.
Poster boys if you like (and Girls if you're hot).
So, you are automatically disregarded if all you ever do is farking post jokes (BORING), most of your posts/replies are based on sexual innuendo (lame), losers who try and rock the boat and just get ignored anyway.
Obscure senses of humour (LBTW), farken good online mates who always make sure you're ok (KS19, Joni), riders whos riding skills preceed them (WT, DMNT, 98TLS, DEATH, flame etc), writing/review skills (Jim2) are valued.
...and farking good mates that I've met through this site.
...and the rapa crew (M)

Spank: I posted a picture of my bike in Gameplanet. Spank posted saying I should check out his site, glad I did. With out this site I would probably have given up biking long ago.
Zed: One of the first people to genuinely welcome me to the site all those years ago (similar bikes at the time). I never got involved in the 'religious' debates, but full credit to him. He was a loan warrior that never wavered from his beliefs.
Winja: Some of his posts almost had me in tears.
Uncle B: I feel truly lucky to have met this man both on and off line, taken too early.
Skelstar: Talked a lot of Hornet shit. Hornet shit is good shit.
Limbimtimwim: Organised what is probably the best road trip I have been on and helped me buying my new bike (even if it is a Suzuki)

Bloody hell. That thread went all wrong really... I made the title of the thread so it didn't reflect my opinion at all. Reading the article I posted the link to only reaffirmed my already low opinion of the naysayers / conspiricy theorists, but it didn't look like that in the thread. Sigh! Ah well, in the past anyway.

And somewhere, a Colapop reclines in his smoking jacket, a glass of eau de plonk in one hand, a cheroot at a jaunty angle in his mouth, a hand on a lovely wench who is massaging his large thighs...
Wisps of smoke curl into the air from his lighted tobacco product and a debonair raising of one eyebrow as he casts his god-like gaze over the offerings on his portal to the mortals...
His fingers dally over the keyboard, lovingly stroked by his large, mannish hands and with a casual flick enters another enchanting entry into the annals of KB.
And somewhere, the gods of biking are pleased. They are reposed in their saddles and motor off into the eternal twisting roads that beckon before them!

Its very interesting reading through all the posts in here. Almost like a history lesson on KB. I have always been curious to what KB used to be like, however the most facinating is how somone can post something a bit out of character and they get a PM from another member asking them if they are alright. Its all in the little things... some people on here, at least in my view hold almost 'celebratey status' making functions and events a chance to meet gifted and talented riders, from accross all walks of life.

You modest man you, leaving yourself off that list! I think we need to see if there is a co-relation between how unhinged some of these characters are and what made them so!
The thing I like about KB and all the infamous/nefarious/famous/wannabe/surreal/sensible characters is that they all get me to think about biking and how I can ride safer/better whilst giving me inspiration to do that next crazy project!

Thank you for thinking me unhinged.
I read to day that if you acknowledge that you are eccentric by definition you are not.
I think that may be a little simplistic.
Most other people consider me in some way eccentric (or just plain mad).
But does it stop me from being eccentric if I don't think I am eccentric, I just think that everyone who does not ride is either mad or dead inside?

Mark! Hiya mate, nice to see you posting.
It's good to be back mate. Not so flash with all this great weather and no bike to ride, but you get that huh. May wait to get a new bike in spring save having to wash and clean it over winter... but with this weather those plans are not likely to last too long at all. Nice sparkly new red 675 down at the shop at the moment ;)

It's a shame that some people use grammatical anarchy to scream "LOOK AT ME!!!", and in the process actually stop people from reading their posts...:hitcher:
True - nothing makes me less likely to read a post than if it is 'written' without capitals, commas etc - and with bad spelling thrown in.
It might contain important interesting info but if it as per the above description it gets scant attention from me.

A few people seem to stand out to me...
Colapop - famous for his great hugs.
DUMTED - Stereotypical northerner
McJim - laughing scottsman
Skidmark - the jester and butt of many jokes
Joni - lurking shadow of authority
The Dover - self confessed homosexual
Mahaman - bizarre sense of humour
Frosty - highly respected racer and admired by many (including myself)
Just a few that I have come across in my short time on KB.
Alas some of those whom you speak of are no longer here, in saying that, lerking is not prohibited.....you have been quiet Rubbergirl, whats up? Latex shrinkage?...:sweatdrop

Top of the list for me is Loosebruce, great friend and all round good guy.
DSS3 too, another great bloke and always fun to be around.
Those still among us that spring to mind are;
White Trash, all round asshole, but still a good bloke.
RiffRaff, who in some loss of sanity got tie up with the above....
Two smoker, one of the first KBer's I met.
ColdKiwi, another who was here lots in the early days.
Hitcher, spelling king.
Scumdog, the cop from hell (or somewhere in that vicinity...)
Spudchucker, another lawman we don't see anymore.
Motu, who's been around forever.
And Jackrat...our first exchange on here was a rather in depth and colourful discussion on the appropriatness of wheelies on KB rides......:jerry:
there's heaps of others too, Quasi, frosty, Kwakkakid, Jimbo600, Bigdog, Speedie, Bugjuice, Zapf, Zed, Winja, DMTD and some tosser called Boomer, and no doubt a few others I can't remember right now.

For the two of you, here is my intre... intar...tmtrep... ahh, taking of it:
- Scum lie and try to bullshit but the victims will do everything possible to help you
- You will meet bozos that can't put a sentence together everywhere, but most scums tend to have that problem.

Gotta add:
DMNTD - For many reasons, but the most memorable, after a run in with a road barrier while out riding, and subsequently badly hurting his leg. Mr DMNTD decides he can still ride, and proceeds to make a manual gear shifter for his hand and a leg support braced off a crash bung to place his busted leg onto. He then rides from Tauranga to Paeroa for the BOS.
Linky to funny. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=44462
Boomer - Only man I have heard of run over by his own Gixxer. Overall a good bastard, and good riding companion. Always good for a laugh.
Kiwifruit - overall good guy, ready to go out of his way to help others.
Motoracer - Very good rider and overall good guy, taught me quite a bit when I was a noob back with the ZXR 250C.
Winja - Miss the entertainment.
Tex - Good riding buddy, always good to spin the shit with. Amazing rider who learnt incredibly quickly.
N4CR - As per Tex, Helped me get through an incredibly boring defensive driving class in order to graduate to full licence.
Justsomeguy - Good riding buddy, amusing and slightly craaazy.
Others too, but am tired of typing....
