Here's a quote from the owner of the Yahoo! Comet 650 owners forum. Note that these problems are related to the US versions which may differ from NZ/AUS models mainly due to the strict emission regulations of the US.
Have a good read of all the faults listed though:
First if you think this is some sort of who shot JFK then please do
your self a favor, many of us have experienced engine frailer and are
really tired of some who just do not get reality and even when
presented with the parts still do not understand.
Some of the theories on the broke engines:
First one is:
"It's the Riders Fault!"
This one is the real cause of most of the bad PR Hyosung is getting as
some have spread this that appear to be representing Hyosung/ S&T
Motors. What is really bad is the lack of Ownership OF THIS BIKE and
riding experience of the posters.
Second one almost as bad!
The time taken to fix the trouble! [Honda overnights parts in the
USA! As do the rest of the Big Boys in the Business!] `My Local
Dealer it would be two to three weeks to get the parts to Phoenix from
where ever' told me?
The rest:
GV/GT250 seized crank, seems to be the roller bearings and hopefully
limited to the pre 2007 bikes. Some of you may have seen the images on
E-Bay when many (10 to 15) 250 and 650 engines and stripped frames
where listed, somehow the [broke] engines later where shipper to
replace other broke engines????
GV/GT 650 possible early 2002 to 2005 it trouble as the 250, from 2005
on we see the valve claimed to be dropping.
Some think the AIS is putting cold air on the front valve and this
some how makes it fall off the stem.
Some think that the valve stem "weld" fails due to poor welding.
Other troubles, like the leaking fuel valve that fills the engine with
fuel, has been a problem since 2003 that I know of.
Would be nice if someone would post a picture of a broken valve stem
still up in the head.
Please note I am the web master on this site, You may find it hard to
ban me.

So, who wants to buy a Hyosung now?
