What can I say. That certainly made the 9 look slow. Your 335km/hr was so quick you ended up behind me!!! Just organising some pics and remembering where we went and I will write up a report.

The CX recorded the old imperial ton (actual 105mph if you take in the undereading speedo error), which didn't think was too bad for a 29 year old 500. On a closed private road obviously.

What a day!!!

So up bright and early at 5am this morning and cooked my own eggs. My bike was locked up in meanies garage so I got my gear together and headed over there. Dogsnbikes, Bonez, 86gsxr and Yod showed up and it looked like a good day. (pics 1&2)

6.01am we headed off to Feilding. Really nice having the detector on the front of the bike and being assured there were no tax collectors out and about the pace was steady as we rode into the sunrise. Out through Feilding up Halcombe hill and things were ticking along nicely. Bit of a stop on top of Halcombe hill as I realised I didn't know which way to go and the boys were not keen on following the blind so Bonez took the lead through Marton and out to Turankina. Through the marton township Bonez hot thermos realised that it was on a Honda and jumped off. Fixed that up and headed through to Wangvagas for a smoke stop. (Pic 3)
On to Waverly where the zuki needed some fuel. Small wait for the servo to open up and we were off to hawera. Pace got up to a 3 figure number not starting with 1 as the triumph and kwaka got a bit of a workout. No traffic. Dry roads. Radar detector. What more could you ask for?

Stopped in hawera where the Meanstreak did its best Honda impression (pic 4) (no panic.. it is from the fuel overflow so not a really good impression) And a bit of a chat (Pic 5)
Text Dhunt and told him we were around and said would text him in Okato and ride awakino with him. Good smooth run round surf highway and we were in in Oakura before we knew it. Text Dhunt again and found out he went the other way round and ended up behind us. No matter.. went through for a fuel stop in bell block and Dhunt caught up. Having a smoke and the taranaki lads went wizzing by.
Set out a chase after the taranaki lads and caught them on top of Mt messenger. Had a chat to Nadoj and found they were going for lunch in Awakino. Run through and it was kinda hard to keep eye on road with the fantastic scenery around the coastal roads. Said goodbye to taranaki lads in awakino and pressed on.
Smiles on everyones faces as we pulled into pio pio. Great road that is. Refueled and had lunch at a fantastic little cafe there. (pic 6)
Then off through 8 mile. Pace picked up again and having a really good run. The Dogsnbikes dropped back for some reason. 86, yod and myself carried on to Taumarnui. Waiting there and Meanie showed us to tell us Dogs had gone back because he dropped his sunglasses and on the way back again had a little chat with Mr Policeman on the side of the road. Seems the Radar detector was on the wrong bike. Bit of bugger that but Dogs showed up soon in good spirits.
Cut through an awesome road I had never been on before to Turangi. Road was very damp but tyres held up well. Refuel in Turangi and discussed options. Light was running out so we decided to do a striaght run down the desert road and over vinegar hill home.
Stopped on the desert road with the setting sun to take some more photos. (pics 7,8 and 9) I thought they came out rather well.
Stopped for last fuel stop in Taihape with bit of coffee. 2 blonde hitchhikers missed out and would have got several offers for a ride if they had had helmets. Never mind.
Was getting dark now and we had ridden into the sunrise and now riding into the sunset.
Up over vinegar hill and the meanstreak found a couple of extra gears. Quickest I have ever seen a meanstreak take those corners......
Said goodbye in Chelteham and off home.

The idea for this ride was a 900km touring ride averaging 90km/hr. Well that didnt quite work out.

From the GPS.

time Moving : 7.31.33
max speed: honda 335.... kwaka 100km/hr
Trip 752km
moving average 99.9km/hr
total time 12.38.33

Great company (showed by noone could believe we spend 5 hours talking) and great days riding.

Cheers guys

Was surprised we caught up with that Aprillia adventure bike we saw at Taihape. Had a ball on the night sections apart from getting stuck in hills behind Yod :dodge: , tintops  and the Aprillia :innocent: That was soon put right after a few ks though. The old girls high beam isn't that bad and I've done a fare share of night riding in past.

A point of note. The motorcycles that took part in this event represented the last four decades of motocycling.

DnB's 995i and meanies meanie-2000s
cowboyz kermitmobile-1990s
yods viffer and the gixxer-1980s
the evil twin -1970s

Good effort.

yup it is, was thinking about going over the track then the alfredton rd from eketahuna and route 52 to masterton...or maybe nipping out the halcombe road and back vinegar hill, who knows....

tempted ??

You sweet talker you - Happy Birthday! (i'd get you a Suzuki but I wouldn't want to spoil you :shifty:  )

I really couldnt be bothered at work today. I had to go in cause if I dont no one does anything so I sat in the office all day surfing the net and barking orders. Still buzzing on the ride. Good effort for 4 decades of bikes and the criusier certainly gave us the learn in the dark.

You tell em Lance, good help is hard to get:yes: And by god, I thought the Meanstreak had a hidden afterburner feature tucked away under that seat somewhere! Hmmm, maybe that explains the fuel on the ground at Hawera heh, heh.

Foaming mag wheel cleaner- I get mine from the Warehouse. However, it may be damaging over the long term on plastics and such like, so I am wary of just telling you to fling it on

Try a degreaser. Super Cheap have some for two dollars a can. It's not the best though but it is super cheap lol. There are better ones around, and they have them too. If you go for it, get at least two cans and keep it away from the panels and electrics as it's basically a heavy duty detergent I believe.

Have a damn good ride ya lucky boy:yes:

Yes, I'd be careful with any of these products. My research warns that they will take the wax off painted surfaces, so if you do get any where it's not wanted, wash it off with water quickly and read the labels before buying.

Brekkie in bed at 7:30 (mrs yod rocks!)

the minor inconvenience of work this morning - then ditched at 12 and headed for home and the viffer

grey and a bit chilly this side of the ranges but metservice assured me it was sunny on the other side so i packed up and shot down to ashhurst to top up the tank. no sign of the green machine round the corner...too bad, cowboyz missed out

knew it was my birthday when i got a clear run through the gorge, hung a right at woodville and headed down route 2 to eketahuna, finally the sun was out and i stopped for a photo or two there then headed out alfredton road towards....er...alfredton

thats more like it - still some damp patches in dark corners so wasn't going too quick but some great sections of road nevertheless, hung a right at alfredton and headed down route 52, yeehah...say no more

came ripping around a right hand sweeper and recognised a certain driveway so i stopped and recorded the moment for 86s sake (the infamous "cable corner") - while i was stopped the lady of the house came down to see if i was ok and i explained what i was up to (i think she just wanted to get a closer look at my helmet )

headed off again, the loose surface had subsided somewhat from the last time we were through but still a bit here and there and some damp patches as well so i had to hold back a bit until it opened up further down the road

a pie and a V at the gas station in Masterton then i headed back up the main road - had a bit of a moment when a certain bird of prey feeding on some road kill decided he didnt wanna move for the little viffer until the last moment possible and i was puckering up waiting to see which way he would fly off, across in front of my head or back the other way, thankfully he decided my helmet was too nice and new to be making a mess of....

timed my deceleration perfectly from 130 to 110 as i approached pahiatua and mr plod went past in the other direction...decided i couldnt be bothered with the track, my back was a bit sore, the sun was back behind the clouds and i was already hankering for a bourbon so i nipped back through the gorge and home

228kms all up and some good photos to boot!!

Got another one today though, and as soon as I get a chance I'll try my hand at subframe straightening and headlight reconstruction. The gixxer will rise again!
