OK, Make your vote count. You may make multiple votes if you like more than one location.

I just realise that I have put The Staging post in twice, as it was suggested in two different threads. If this is your choice make sure you vote in both of them, Alternatively, can a mod delete one of them?

Good work, it is sure a hard choice, with all being very viable options.
Oh well... :argue: hopefully this will come close to ending discussion to where we will be at. then all it will be is which way to go to, what to take to etc etc to.

Great work Jantar and useful to allow more than one pick - be better if people restricted themselves to 2 or 3 though

Had my vote(s) - my main thought is a place where we don't have to share with the public too much (my love only goes so far!!) simce it's a KB clan gathering.

But I'm not going to follow into the group mentioned by Dangerous (The "too far for me" group.)

Of course regardless of where it is HE'S going to be there, right?:wait:

From Dunedin, head north for exactly one tankfull of fuel. Re-fuel and take the next major turn left. Head over the mountain pass and take the next turn right. Re-fuel at the next fuel stop you see, its the only fuel in the area. Carry on straight ahead to the T intersection, left, then right across the bridge, hard right takes you to Blackball. About 600 kms from Dunedin.

Right.. sorry for the delay in getting info..

The Staging Post.. (40ish ks south of Kaikoura.. or north of Cheviot)

available for the 8th Dec!! approx 38 beds plus oooooodles of camping space!!! plus a few caravans.

$15 pp/pn

Spa pool in the trees, plus the swimming pool will be ready to be used! Tennis court. An awesome spitroast pit too.. we have had several pigs/sheep cooked to perfection over it!! (one Plains doo, I had a wild bore hind quarters bungied to my packrack... defrosting on the trip down... )

Great facilities, kitchen etc. Gypsy said they have done a heap of work on the place lately, painting, carpeting etc!! :Punk: There is a large lounge area for socialising.. (bigger than Otematata)!

The new front block is being kept spare for possible walkers on the Kaikoura Costal Track tours.. but may or maynot be anyone booked in when we could be there. Doesn't affect where we would be however, as the areas are VERY separate!!

Anyway.. there's the info! :Punk:

get my vote.

Staging post sounds great and would be my preference as it is time for a "north of centre" gathering. But Otematata was excellent and there is the possibility of overflow accommodation in the town and the ride to Mt Cook was primo.

Less keen on the other places where they are more public (get chased by too many girls !!) <- your turn Anthony.

Sure the Staging Post is not far from Chch but nothing to stop people riding out to greet those coming from further afield. Getting there via Culverden - Waiau - Kaikoura (or more directly thru the Leder) would be a viable alternative. There might be some good rides around the area also.

MyGSXF

Very cool!! I think that is the fairest idea.. with having the venue "north" or "south" of the centre.. alternately each year!!! SO each year the closer living group can go tickey touring to GET to the venue & the further away group, get to go on an awesome decent tour!!! & visa versa for the next years venue!!

Please can we set a CUTOFF time limit for destination decision making!!! coz we will NEED to BOOK The Staging Post ASAP.. to get in.. before someone else snaffles it up & we miss out!! :bye: even a week from today say.. that then also gives everyone 6 MONTHS to plan & book ahead time that may be needed off work (the Fri & Mon for some)

There is no point moaning about 'distances (too far/close) or straight roads' etcetc either people..<_< as we are never going to find the PERFECT venue that will be absolutely 100% PERFECT for EVERYone :oi-grr:

So if ya gunna have a long or short or boring ride & ya don't like it.. tough shit!! :whocares: & if ya gunna whinge about it.. DON'T COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bash: coz the rest of us are gunna be toooooo damn happy & enjoying ourselves!!!!!!! :drinknsin

I can't believe Otematata is leading the pack again. Surely a new venue each year has added interest. And Jantar, why is there 2 separate votes for Staging Post?? Do we add the 2 %'s together???

I am also of the opinion that The Staging Post would be my first choice, but I would be happy to go to any of them. I set the poll up this way to see which venues would suit the most people, and it seems to be doing that. It doesn't give an overall preference though as there is no way of setting a poll to list preferences in order. I believe that once we get down to 3 clear leaders that we have a final poll of those 3 leaders, and only allow a single vote.

The winning venue will it.

Same for me. Sad to say I don't know where any of the listed places are.... but hell, once we get a venue sorted I'll join the Christchurch crowd and ride out with them. If you lot can stand having a piddly little 250 in the mix. Us new riders need a little encouragement now and then... ;)

Don't know where the venues are? You need to get out more, or at least get a map:dodge: I sympathise with your tirade re the lack of riding buddies-bloody frustrating i know. 'id be happy to ride the port hills with you if istill lived there.
You at least have access to some great clubs and facilities unavailable to us down here (ie Ruapuna) so hopefully it will change soon- cheers

Okay okay, so I know where a couple of the places are geographically... but I'm not familiar with how to get there or the roads that lead there. That should make better sense. Yeah, I'd like to get out more... but I've never been on a ride very far away from Christchurch, as riding on the open road is a bit of a pain with my bike. Still, I've just bought myself a massive box of foam disposable earplugs (200 pairs ;)) that really do the business, so that should help some.

I've made a thread asking where all the Chch riders are at - it's in my signature if anyone wants to have a look and explain themselves ;)

I was hoping you would run a second poll like that - good idea.
Theres been a bit of discussion on here about the distance and locations etc. While this is less of a problem on the way there as we could do a part way thing on Friday night, the distance is an issue for the return trip. I know this is a concern for some and they won't say anything for fear of being referred to as soft cocks etc.
Many of us need to be at work on the Monday and at that time of year there tends to be an awful lot happening (well it is for me anyway) - this means we need to ride home on the Sunday, and probably in a semi hungover state, after having a bloody good night with the KB team. For me and some others this means the middle of the island is about the limit.
If we start going northern half one year, southern half the next year then some will make it, some won't. I probably wouldn't go to the Kaikoura one at that time of year for the reasons explained, but in the autumn I could.
I'm not saying don't do a system where we move to alternative ends each time - its just that a middle locations will get a better turnout every time, and I guess there are plenty of rallys at these other spots that KB'rs can go to and meet at other times.
OK thats my pennies worth - I'll go to the gym now and carry on my hardening up exercises!!!
