Is this more aimed towards basic skills for the street rider or are racers welcome as well?

Yup, it be interested but I'd like to see a lot more detail and know exactly what my money is going to pay for. If it's all good then I'll put it in the diary and front up.

IIRC, a couple of other KBers have done a Merkel course - can anyone remember who or what they said?

Opportunity for up to 6 more people to participate in private tuition on the Taupo track. Run by Fred Merkel who has a well-proven history in this safety and handling skills training method. To paricipate you need a road bike of any size, although the others already signed up ride upwards of 800cc bikes. You also need to contribute $250 direct to the tutors which covers their fees, the hire of the track, and for qualified first aid attendance with an ambulance standing by (just in case anyone stuffs up).
The time and date is not critical and is listed as an indication only except that we cannot reasonably get the track on a weekend due to demand from fixed events.
If you're interested drop me a line by checking out my details via the Yamaha Radian 600 I've just listed for sale on this site or register your interest here.
11th Sept: Have emailed queries to Fred and will post answers when available.
I would be interested but only if the training isn't focussed solely on hard-out road racing for the racing faternity

27th Sept: Fred demos the racing line in a safe environment & teaches proficient riding, he rides with and advises 1 on 1: bike setup, body position, handling, anti-target fixation, effective and damage-control braking, safe riding etc. You get to test (and are encouraged to expand) your own limits. It's also fully catered with a steak or chicken lunch, teas & coffees. Check in 7:30a.m / Closing 5:00pm so lots of time to learn, have fun, and fellowship. Get there, get fun, get experienced, be safe. How much more encouragement do you need?
That sounds like me. Count me in.

Great Kerry, If you'd care to email me at lifts@xtra.co.nz with your contact details that would make it a little easier to collate all the "ingredients".
Please state bike model and riding experience as Fred has asked for that info ahead of time. If it looks like the weather's to be shite he will reschedule but no decision on that until earlier in the week of the event.
Cheers, good to have you on board.

Yep, it's all on and would be great to have you on board to make of making the 10+3 possibles into a minimum 10. A few more just makes it cheaper. So far:
TAURANGA
Geoff, Voxan 996 if it's ready (or Honda NTV650 or Yamaha Radian 600)
Craig, Honda NTV600
Simon, Honda VFR800
Nick, GSXR 750 (do you recognise this chap?)
TAUPO:
Maurice, Ducati SL900
John, Ducati (he has a choice of three)
Gordon, Suzuki TL1000
Garry, Suzuki SV650
Robert, Honda VF1000
AUCKLAND
Darryl, ZXR400 ("Hoon", second season racing F3)
Kerry G (kiwibiker contender)
POSSIBLES:
Jim SRT10 (kiwibiker contender)
Running Wild a female 600 rider from near Taupo
SPman (kiwibiker contender)
So what do you think? Maybe the steak or chicken lunch laid on tips the scales for you. Keep in touch huh? And mark that calendar.
Cheers, Geoff

Hi, I got hold of Fred today and he says we'd probably get in a racer's way! He reckons they'd be unlikely to get good value what with 80% of the people attending doing so to upskill on safety and road handling.
If you're a racer maybe you need to talk with Hoon & XJ/Frosty as it could be worth organising a separate session for racers.
Please let me know your inclinations. Geoff
Accommodation is affordable in a cabin at de Bretts where guests also get free entry to the hot pools. Being a tourist venue there's no shortage, just go on Google and type "Backpacker+Taupo" or something similar, it works well.

Yeah I race, but buckets, the YZF is my roadbike & its been off the road for months, so seemed like a good way to upskill on a big bike again.
One development is my discs have started to warp (again) so I really have to get replacements before committing to anything. Hopefully I can find some in a short timeframe.

Friday the 5th it is, and what was that about bombs? Please indicate with more than a "might" if you are interested. You could always send to me direct at lifts(shift+2)xtra.co.nz
