View Full Version : Another "Taken for Granted" Internet moment

About 20 years ago, the bike racing paddocks of the world essentially closed for the general public. No chatting with racers 20 minutes before they got out there, no autographs at the track, caravans started to become motorhomes and sponsors ate up so much of a rider's time that you couldn't get near them during a racing season.
In the last week an up and comer in the US scene, one Dom Jones, has logged on to KB and said , "Hi".
At the centenary IoM TT we've got a guy with an odds on chance of a podium logging in to give people a bit of a stir and let us know what a ball he's having. No ghost written Blog, this is the actual man, one can tell from the destruction testing he carries on on the communication medium. :)
Time magazine was right last year, even though I thought it was a dubious claim at best, that thanks to the Internet, us "normal" people were wresting control of our world back from multi-nationals and Governments.
Internet users FTW!

Yes - it's an interesting time all righty!
Just as mass communication changed politics with radio and then TV the internet is changing everything from religion to motorcycling.
Look at the dread FZR project....
I'm hoping to help a person that i would probably never have met and in turn I have been assisted greatly by two genuine good bastards - one of whom I've never met in person... 'mazin..

All that happens in meat-space so it stands to reason that cyber-space would be similarly afflicted.

It's motorcycle racing and this is NZ mate. What do you expect? There'll be 20 seconds on the news if Shaun wins.

If there's anyone in NI at the minute, it'll be on UTV there. All the bike racing is. Excellent coverage.
If someone could upload it...

One thing I've noticed about the internet is that it is a truly equaling medium.
I once got into a debate on the meaning of the Second Ammendment with the grand daddy of them all............one Charlton Heston. I can tell you he's no El Cid, Moses, or Ben Hur.

If anyone wants to download coverage of any motorsport event, almost any event you're after can be downloaded from this website (http://www.racing-underground.com/index.ru) within a couple of days of said event being broadcast on TV. World SBK, Moto GP (any class), other motorbike events, F1, rally, stock cars, touring cars... as long as someone has uploaded it (and someone has bound to have done it), you'll be able to leech it. Easy. Just takes a bit of time and a bit of bandwidth that wasn't being used for anything worthwhile anyway...
I don't condone illegal copying and downloading of copyrighted blah blah blah... :innocent:

Exactly. And when the all blacks can get f*cking owned, again, nobody will shut up about it for a week.
FFS on the telly five minutes ago we've had the "latest update" on an ex-all black falling out of a taxi while pissed. In Spain.
