View Full Version : New rego plate???

Hey.
Found the strangest thing on my bike. The metal Registration plate (rear) has a 4 or 5 inch crack in it, between the two fastening screws. I guess it must have been a stress crack, from constant vibration. So...
To get a new rear rego plate, do I need to go to an LTSA branch? Or where would you suggest. I've never had to get a rego plate, it's always been done for me when I buy the vehicle! Any guesses at how much? (Just a normal rego reprint, not a custom plate)
Thanks,
Dave.

Last time I got one I went to the local post office,(was a long time ago).
Where ever you renew your reg'o will do it now.
About $25 I think.
I remove plates every day while working, some I just lift and they snap clean others bend a fair bit before they break,Go figure huh.

Go to an NZ Post shop. They do most things connected with registration there.

I'll do that tomorrow I think. I don't want the plate to fall off, because my WOF and Rego sticker are stuck to the bottom of it! (I had one officer, honest!)
Hey, is it legal to sew the plate, wof and rego to the back of your jacket??? :msn-wink:

Yep you will need to see your LTSA agent, ours is an AA agency. Thats where the lady in the post office told a guy to go to get a replacement as he had lost one. As to cost there is bound to be a cost,
MR6A REPLACEMENT REGISTRATION PLATES(S) Passenger Car $14.45
Trailer $8.80
Motorcycle $8.80

Hope this helps

Hey SC it must be the way Motorad fit them? Mine cracked in the same place within weeks and so did the other CBR1. The plates seem to be made from dried cheese. I just drilled fresh holes and raised it, and guess what, it's just a tad harder to read now. What a shame. I'd be interested in knowing if the Post shop let you have a choice from what is in store? You know pick something easy to remember or with a bit of a ring to it (but not a personalised plate)

Pain in the arse? So do you need to change your rego sticker and WOF to match your rego?

new rego stickers are free, lost my rego holder on a ride once and had to get new one. you prob don't need to get new wof, because the cops can get a full history of the bike (if they can be bothered) even if you have changed your plate.
anyway, i dont have my rego or wof on my bike, they live in my wallet. myi understanding of the law is that they must be easily visable, i deem it easy to get out my wallet and show them!

Thats fine if the police pull you over and want to see it. Problem is that some parking wardens write tickets for rego not visable or expired.

They're big on that up in hawkes bay!
i've laminated my rego and double-sided industrial-taped it above the plate and have the WoF in a holder screwed to the plate

I was under the impression I could get my current rego reprinted? I would have to ring the insurance company if I changed the rego number??? Well, I see what they say when I go down next week.
Thanks for all help :)

You can get your rego sticker reprinted at any post shop, it only costs a couple of dollars.
Not sure about the WoF but I'd say anywhere that can issue one could probably give you a replacement. All WoF details are on computer now.
As for remaking your plate that shouldn't be too hard. Not sure for std plates but for personalised plates you ring 0800 remake and they send it down a couple of days later. There's no way your rego number will change just because you lost the plate. They'll just make you a new one. You could get a new one assigned if you really wanted too, I think the transfer only costs around $10.

The labels have to displayed on the vehicle. You can get a ticket for failing to display the label even if the bike is actually registered. $200

Here's what you do - go to an LTSA agent, and pay your $8.80 to get a new plate. No, you don't get a choice - they have to issue them in sequence. You'll get a new rego sticker as part of the $8.80. They should also be able to print you a new WOF, if not, go back to where you got your WOF (after you've done the rego thing) and get one from there. It's a common enough occurence, for occasions like when you've smashed your car windscreen and have a replcement fitted.
Gee - it's amazing how people (including me) like to answer things they dunno about). However, in this instance, I've been there, done that. On my VFR, I "lost" the rego plate, because it was the wrong size and shape for my trimmed back mudguard. Easy as pie to sort out a new one, but they told me I couldn't have a choice.

My rego and wof are attached to one of those alloy holders with the clear cover, I've bolted it to the frame on my Sporty just below the regulator (behind the front wheel on H-Ds)where it can be seen but is out of the way - just got the no. plate showing at the rear.

When the white plates first came out they were those big square ones, they were breaking all over the place - I fitted 3 to a new TT250 in as many weeks, the last time I made a frame from 1/8 plate around for support.Lost a couple on my own vibratey bikes. It took a couple of years and lots of complaints, but the LTSA finaly admitted they got it wrong and gave the option of the rectangular plate.I still have the big one on my XS1,seeing as I don't swap plates anymore it seems to have lasted....funny that eh?

Had a few run-ins wit an ex-T.O. type cop when I got my first H-D 'cos the no. plate was one of those big square ones bent to suit the low rectangular California 'plate brackets, he made all manner of threats about "tickets" if I didn't straighten the plate. nnnggrrr! pedantic or what!!!! :moon:
