Well, to be honest while the Women on the ad held a certain appeal, it was the tackiness of the advertising that I don't agree with.

Its all very well having half-nekid Women frolicking about feeding each other food if you're advertising beer or intimate apparel, but fast food? Maybe I'm missing some subtleties (?) here.

Actually, when they were riding along on horses, the scene was all gray and washed out and they didn't look that hot anyway!

The bastards. The unspeakable bastards.

This goes to show that the ASA will bow down to little old women with 87 cats on leashes if they complain loudly enough.

I'm so over the PC bullshit in this country. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

And why is that woman letting her young daughter watch Home and Away. I woudl think that would be more dangerous.

That woman has sexualised her 3 year old. That type of advertising is connotative in its content. 3 years olds, I can assure you of this, are entirely denotative beasts.

I hate people.

I think people are in danger of losing not only perspective but also their senses of humour.

At the other end of the BK girls spectrum is this offering: http://www.stuff.co.nz/4075846a19716.html

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think that there's a link between the two.

They were selling their bodies as sexual objects, which makes them little more than whores. In what sort of society is it appropriate to have nearly naked prostitutes on the television before the news at 6?

they like bikinis?
they were trying to get a tan?

why use dan carter's sick pack? why not use a 300 pound fat boy?

Personally I think all TV advertising targeting males should be required to have gorgeous naked women in it.Of course it should! That's what men want! It shouldn't however be on at a time when little ones are still up. Advertisers can associate their products with prostitutes all they want, it's their call I guess, but they can't take away the rights of parents whilst they're doing it.

meanwhile, back in the real world....I can't say I've seen the ad you're talking about, I have however seen the 15m tall one they had attached to the Copthorne (could be there still for all I know). I dare say the women purchase most of the mens underwear, it makes sense to target them.... and they have to hang it off of something. Would you buy it if it were advertised on a tubby boy? Regardless, the relationship is still there, pussy to burgers doesn't have that relationship no matter which way you slant it.

the intent of the image is the intent of the image - its designed to get the attention of the target market

what they're selling is irrelevant

edit: granted the dan carter ad isnt the bets example because they ARE selling underwear but there are plenty of other ads out there with semi naked men - you dont hear too many complaints (read: zero) about those!! plus T&A rocks lol

You're quite right about time slots, ever watched 'two and half men'? It's chock full of sexual inuendo right at dinner time, kids all over the nation glued to the set. Tacky-as. It doesn't surprise me though TV-types in general are so out of touch it's not funny, not to mention how far up themselves (and often each other) they are.

The thing is that parents can make the choice of what programs a young one watches, (and I think that the lady letting a 3 year old watching Home and Away was a hypocrite then turning around and complaining about the ad but anyhoo) but despite choosing more appropriate programs, the ads in them are not controllable by the parent. And I don't know how often you watch tamer tv (i.e. suitable for younger viewers) but you would be surprised what ads go in those slots.
And since I'm only a newcomer to Skytv I was horrified to learn that you cannot escape the ads there either! What's with that???? (When living in Thailand, pay tv was ad free).

Geez! There was no nudity on those ads, just a bunch of bikini clad women riding horses promoting burgers (sex sells). It uses a cliche to almost parody itself, in a most harmless fashion. This society is so constipatedly prudish it makes me puke. Go to Germany and look at the advertising there, tits and bums galore and no one raises an eyebrow. I'm more worried about the incessant 'kiddie' ads employed by McDonalds to seduce our kids into obesity, that's certainly much more subversive than a couple of scantily clad 'chicks' promoting the odd burger or 2

Burger King Bikini Ad Complaints Upheld
NewsRoom.co.nz Agency Story at 1:07 pm, 29 May 2007

Fast food chain Burger King has withdrawn two television advertisements featuring bikini-clad women because they were found to be sexually exploitative.

In decisions released yesterday, the Advertising Standards Complaints Board says the commercials breached the industry code of practice.

One of the ads features three women wearing bikinis in professional jobs, while another depicts them together in bed, swapping clothes, bouncing on a trampoline and showering in a fountain.

A complainant described one of the commercials as "soft porn", saying it used sex appeal in a way which is exploitative and seriously degrading to women.

The complaints board ruled the ads were in breach of the code of practice by using sex appeal to sell an unrelated product and outdated stereotypes likely to cause widespread offence.

Burger King says the ads were designed to be tongue-and-cheek and it will appeal against the ruling.

(Should be tongue-in-cheek. The BDOTGNZA is always amused when so-called professional writers stuff things up)

Sweet, in parts of the western world its ok to have multiple wives too, and some have to wear coverings over their faces!

I believe there is Women parading themselves in show windows half nekid selling sex in the red-light districts in Hamburg (?) too, but I doubt we'd see that anytime soon in good ole NZ.

My thoughts exactly...What I personally don't get is: why do we need to watch Tv and eat dinner at the same time anyway? I'm not pretending to do it better, but my son (10) and I catch up on his day and mine over dinner. Otherwise, he watches Steve Irwin.

And the lion on that add...he'd make a great girlfriend, wouldn't he?

I have two teenagers who still think fast foods are a; a treat or b; a 'can't be arsed' quick-fix for hunger pangs.

Either way, they both know they're crap and thay also both know that a quick fix for hunger pangs can be had at dads place much cheaper and it's better for them.
