View Full Version : Should FROSTY remove his cast??!!!!

As many of you are aware, Frosty was involved in a minor accident at Taupo race track about 10 days ago. He shattered his wrist (as well as dislocating it) and needed an operation to screw and plate it back together.

According to him, the cast is no longer required as the plates and screws will hold it together.

The cast was split on one side to allow for swelling. As the swelling has subsided it has become really loose. (With a little help from Frosty of course) It is so loose, he could slip it off completely if he really put his mind to it.

Of course I realise he only wants to take it off so he can get back on his bike!!!!! :nono:

But should he wait the full 6 weeks?

Jorga hi!!!

You may need to borrow my biggest stick for naughty boys with broken, but repaired limbs that think it is ok to resume life as it was before a healing period has taken place. Please PM me, I am sure I can find it!

No doubt the FROSTY bloke will read this, Tony stop being a bad boy!!!! :spanking:

At least give the poor broken bones a chance to form a soft callus before being silly enough to test their strength.......

Jorgia anytime you want to come weep on my shoulder feel free.......it is a disease this motorcycling thing.......LOL

Nope.

If he falls on it again, it may make it worse. Wrists and ankles are bastards to fix properly.

On an unrelated note, I have a lovely cage he may be interested in purchasing to drive until he can ride again.

You're all missing the point.

He'll do what he bloody likes anyway.

No amount of pontificating from us lot is going to make the slightest bit of difference to what he does anyway.

Of course if he does take it off he loses all rights to have a good old whinge about it if he needs further surgery in the future because he took it off to quick.

Besides, the fun bit about casts is leaving them on until your limb shrivels so much inside it that you can easily move it back and forth...

there is nothing duct tape, cable ties, no8 wire, fibre glass and string cant fix

From experience a loose cast isn't doing stuff all apart from hurting that little knob of a bone on your wrist.
Well that was the case for me anyway.

My wrist broke in an accident. Didn't realise for two days as I was Morphined!

Anyhow after two weeks of summer my arm was half it's normal size and the cast stunk like a dead dog.
Hospital wouldn't give me a new cast just because the old one stunk.

I asked, "What if it is too loose?"

"Well then we will have to replace it, as it isn't doing anything".

So I pulled the cast off my arm in front of the doc!
He rolled his eyes, and told me to sit down.

Okay, I didn't have any pins, screws, or plates to hold my wrist together, but I did in my leg.
No cast on that.

Wrists are a b1tch to get right again.

Right enough of my babble,
In summary, get well soon Frosty!
By all means take the stupid cast off, BUT
leave it at least 6 weeks before you put it in any danger at all!

Yep, frustrating I know, but them's the rules!
You don't get paid enough (to race) to only have one wrist that works properly.

He has a cage thx. But being manual (it is his left wrist) he can't use the gears so I am driving him.

He did try to reverse it out of a car park today. One of the boys squealed.

Hey take it off and then learn when he loses the full use of his arm ... bloody hell ... the cast is there partially to immobilise the thing and allow it to heal ...

Swoop
30th May 2007, 21:04
Seen it several times before with sporting injuries. Cutting the cast off so the owner can go and play...

Don't bitch when it dosen't heal properly and causes further pain later on.

And then you have to go back and have shitloads of surgery...

Got a mate with a permanent bent wrist coz he took his cast off... he went to lean against a door and busted it without too much pressure at all... a couple of years of surgery... yeah he's happy he took his cast off...

30th May 2007, 21:10
Can't get a clearance to race so you might as well get a new cast on.
Heal well so I can watch the racing later on. Cheers

If the cast is a split cast, it should only be a temporary cast anyway. In other words, if he is supposed to be in a cast then the one he currently has on should be replaced with a permanent fibreglass. If he is not supposed to have a cast on after the current one has been on for a short time, then once removed it will stay off. He should have an orthopaedic outpatients appointment booked - if not, ring and make one. They will either take it off and replace it or take it off and leave it off.

In other words, as a split cast it is only temporary anyway, and should come off. The question is whether there is an orthopaedic reason for him to actually have a cast on and only an orthopaedic doctor should make that call.

Whatever you do Frosty - if you do take it off & THEN hurt your wrist again - DONT go back to the same Doc , they WILL hurt you some more & be quite disinterested in your pain. Ohh & the other thing is - Have you painted it Britten :dodge: Pink & Blue Yet ?

Yeah well sometimes you just have to say "NO" to frosty. He'll get over it.

Its no joke and if he wants to race again he will know the right thing to do. Me I have moved on to a new race team. Am sure you will be pleased with that Jorja
