I picked up this little beauty yesterday morning for $1600, mechanically sound, cosmetically flawed. The power difference is massive from my last bike. 35,000k's. Just need to get my restricted so I can get onto the motorway and put the bike to the test.

Congratulations on the new masheen. Double the capacity in one step - excellent behaviour. Best of luck with the restricted licence.

I'm sure it feels good to be back on two wheels again Magua!
Cosmetically flawed alright (I thought you were kidding) with a lovely big yellow L-plate to go...you'll have to get a red one to match your rear decals!

The miss matching fairings is the biggest gripe. White front, brown back  .

12th September 2004, 18:58
and no side fairings. Man if you want an moderate to pretty good paint job done i got some black paint left over(might need a bit more). Just give us a hand and i'll help you out. (got all the spray stuff to).
Getting those side fairings will cost an arm and a leg but the bike looks heaps better with them on. Look on trademe they come up now and again.

Way I saw it was that they aren't a nessecity (sp). The bike was a lot cheaper than anything I had looked at with kms around that mark.

Thanks for the offer, but I think some fairings will be out of my price range for quite some time.

12th September 2004, 19:09
still we can do the ones you got so it makes the bike seem less rag-tag if you want. (and black bikes are sexy :Punk: ) Also if you want that appolstary done i know a guy who did a vt250 seat for about $60.

here we go
Magua
12th September 2004, 20:57
Now that is cool. Don't know if this would be a problem but it has a crack either side of the fairings running parallel to the main seat.

12th September 2004, 21:05
hmmm will have to see it. when are you looking at getting it done??
Magua
12th September 2004, 21:25
Not anytime soon, my phone has recently gone bust and I think I'd like to get the seats recovered first.

Hi Magua.
You might like to check out this site:
http://yamahaforever.com/
They have a forum group you can discuss whatever in and you can download the FZR250 manuals off their site too.

Nice bike M.
Pardon my ignorance but why do you need a restricted to take it on the motorway? Your learners is enough isnt it?

Congratulations! a fine sted is the FZR250 just remember to look after thoose hard working internals and stay upright!
aff-man
13th September 2004, 12:09
learners restricts you to 70km/h. so you can theoretically go o the motorway but it would be very lethally dangerous
Magua
13th September 2004, 15:43
Thanks celtic, I was planning on booking my liscence today but I'm more of a fair weather rider. Well atleast until I get some pants that can keep the rain out. I have exceeded the 70kph restriction around Albany but I'd rather not risk it on the motorway.

Just one bit of advise--Bitter experience here. Make up some crankcase sliders/covers -I promise it'll be worth while and save ya heaps in the long run.

Think there was a guy on Trademe advertising some FZR250 fibreglass fairings, not listed at the moment but he may relist. Think his name is Gdog?

I had to wait a month, and that's taking advantage of someone elses cancelation. Otherwise it would have been longer.

I'm going to plead ignorant and say hwa? What are those?
aff-man
13th September 2004, 19:47
things to go over the crank case so if it "accedentally" goes over they crank case doesn't split open/cost you money etc etc etc (am i right??)

Think of an L-shaped bracket that mounts to the frame at the bottom of the engine and bends around to protect the crankcase covers if(when) you drop the bike on its side.
Please tell me you know what a crankcase is Magua :shifty:

Right the big round shiny engine case. You know engines have cranks .......
Magua
14th September 2004, 08:06
So by crank case cover, you mean a side fairing? Because those aren't cheap. I'm yet to see any forsale on their own, so far I've only seen fibreglass side and top fairings together for $600.
aff-man
14th September 2004, 15:31
No no no the cank case cover is the actual engine. It's the bit that covers the crank. Look at where the arrow is pointing in the pic
Magua
14th September 2004, 15:42
I'm lost, I'm told I need a crank case cover but I've allready got one?
Do I need a crankcase cover and if so where can i get one from?
aff-man
14th September 2004, 16:12
Ok what we are talking about is something to PROTECT your crankcase. So if(when) your bike hits the ground the protector get damaged and not the crank case. This is what happened to erik's crankcase when he had a little misfortune.
Magua
14th September 2004, 21:08
