Poll:
Give us your preference , Do you prefer to crash by losing the front or losing the rear ?, & why ?, Personally losing the front gets it all over & done with nice & quickly - so you can get back up (usually unhurt) & try to get back on the track before to many people see you lying around having a weee rest..........
The other good thing about loosing the front - is you get to relive the experience before you nod off to sleep at night.....:shit:

Where's the option for being taken out by an SV650 as it bounces of the tryewall? Best thing about that is you can relive it when hear how bad his bike is broken and not even get an apology.

There is no option for the many scenarios Goblin, & prefering not to crash is also not an option, just assume your on your own & youve stuffed up !

Loose the front end by a country mile. 9 times out of 10 you'll be fine and your bike shouldn't have too much damage. Loosing the rear end normally means high side. Which means a lot more pain and also more damage to bike. Didn't think there really is much of a debate, whoever said loose the rear needs their head looking at, lol.

And he's had a lot of practice at this in the last couple of years

Definitely the front (although I broke my wrist when it happened)

Personally I prefer to lose the rear, usualy for me it means going into a low side, but the chance of being able to hold it up with kneeslider etc are far greater than the "bang" that loses the front has as it just helplesly falls over

Meh, i pick both at the same time..

it means your bike is balanced haha.. Yeah, right!

I've only had two non bucket racing crashes, One was a highside from a siezing motor, and the other was a front tuck after loosing the front brake lever, and still expecting to make the turn.

I cant vote, my option is either, the nasty factor is pretty similar either way, the rear can hook back up, and flick you off the high side, if the front goes, and grabs savagely, then you get thrown up onto the tank, crushing yo balls, and can result in finding yourself directly in front of your bike, with it still upright, and not farkin about.

A crash, is a crash, is a crash.

Wheres the options for "crashing, but saving it"???
it does happen, adn the rear is much easier to catch...but falling off thru a hi-side sucks.
My worst Hi-side was a front end tuck that hooked up and threw me fowareds like Drew said. you just can't win...all crashes are not cool.

Anything that lets you go off the low side, front or rear, is preferable.

Tucking the front at hi lean is weird...Last time i did it (bar HTDboys bike - that wasnt a crash.....:innocent: )i was scraping my elbow already (yes, a little bit showboating, and a little bit experimenting), and the front walked away from me. it only changed angle of lean by a few degrees by falling over, but i dont consider i crashed it till i got bounced off at the gravel, i was still on it, still had my knee and elbow on the deck and looking up the track, but it never came back, i never managed to prop it up again.

usually I land on my head to save my body getting hurt.

I have recently been surprised, as to what can actually be saved, PMCC race at Taupo, I was sure it was all over a minimum of six times, and somehow managed to ride out of it, so I can understand when you say you didn't think it was crash till you hit the gravel Jay. Even the front sliding its way accross the track on the first lap, is retrievable, with a bit wieght shifting, and not losing ones head. The rear going is different, cos if you shut the gas off too quick, you get off altogether, but if you eas it off too slow, the result is similar. Shit of an idea this falling off thing, way too many variables to have a hand book written for it.

Both my saves have been the rear going out and they were on the road! Sheer blind luck, I reckon.
Both my major bins have been front end biased and I got good air time!.
Personally, I'd much rather not lose either end, but then, I'm old and past it and it f**kin hurts!

Even the front sliding its way across the track on the first lap, is retrievable, with a bit weight shifting, and not losing ones head makes life interesting though.....really kicks the adrenaline levels up.

Oh hell yes, first time it happened, i'm sure I was a bit wide eyed by it, but the next race, I had a huge grin on, and was amped, that I knew it was gonna happen, and I still went in that hot, knowing I'd most likely make it round. I was however, considerably slower in the second race, after a massive near high side rear end slide, then riding off the track into the kittie litter.

lost the front once already,so would prefere to lose the back next.

I've had experience of both and didn't enjoy.

I found loosing the front (tyre just didn't grip on a greasy corner) was the lesser of the two. Just me and the bike slid off gracefully and stopped. Luckily nothing in the other lane at the time. I ended up on the median strip, and the bike in the other lane.

When lost the back I nearly superwomaned over the front into oncoming traffic (again corner, lots of gravel and stones, didn't set myself up in time for the corner and it went pear shaped quick). Caught a big chucky stone on the back wheel and the bike just didn't like that at all, nearly high sided that time but managed to pull her back for the lesser of two evils (low siding and hitting my left shoulder on the deck).

I could ride away from bin number 2, but did less damage to the bike in bin number 1.

So which ways less ouchy, guess it depends on your particular senario but I still prefer not to bin at all really.

well ive never managed to put a road bike down on the ground.. touch wood... but in moto x its was always a lot less painful to loose the rear end other than the front.. every time i lost the front i broke a bone somewhere and my bike always looked a lil bit more 2nd hand :shit:

Haven't broken bones by losing the rear ....

Sadly I'm not qualified to participate in the poll on a personal level. I've not attended a full semester at the "School of Hard Knocks" yet - well only on gravel at low speed. That was low side after losing the front, but looking at racing accidents on the tube, it would seem that high sides after losing the rear are the greater of two evils.

I see that losing the front is winning the poll by a small margin at the moment. Of course this subject is restricted to the misadventures on the racetrack.

LMAO.... ummm

Just one question about the poll... you mean I have a CHOICE????

codgyoleracer
7th June 2007, 11:21
Abstaining is also a choice, but believe it or not there is a preference for these things when you weigh up all the pro's & cons & have done it enough times............:gob:

FROSTY

prefer to loose the back end --mainly because a back end loose seems to leave a biggger margin for error between looseing it and an actual crash
