Morning all,
well I have decided that the Monster 900 is my bike of choice so started on getting quotes for insurance so I know what it will cost and can factor that into my purchase..
The problem is, I called my insurance company ( AA ) who have said that because it is a Ducati they will no insure the bike... No other reason was given, just the fact it is a Duc....
SO the question I am putting to you is what insurance company to you use to protect your pride and joy and could you give me some round about costs as to what you pay in yearly premiums for what sort of bike... I know it will be different for each rider and bike but hopefully I can get a pattern...
So can someone please give me a hand on this..
Cheers
PS Can't wait to get my monster..... Damn licence issues....aarrgghhhh

Classic bike have an age threshold - I think it's 30.
Kiwibike in New Plymouth were great with me and McJim - we're currently insured through them and McJim has a Ducati.

Agree. Kiwi Bike has been excellent for me too. I'm on my restricted and under 25, yet I pay $180 per year for full cover on my bike. That's less than it costs me to register it for a year, let alone run it! Peanuts. Give them a yell on the phone - 0800 629 253 and get a quote... or email, dave@kiwibike.co.nz . Sorted! Let us know how you go :)

Classic Cover have my Ducati & Triumph insured, no probs whats so ever.
I have cage, house & contents with AMI. The insured my (old) bike for very little, and said they they do not really insure bikes unless you are with them, but if you are they give you a very good deal as a 'courtesy'.
Might be worth looking into and switching the rest of your stuff to them as they are pretty good anyway and competitive too.

I am using State as a package deal was offered: House, contents, cars, and bike. Bike by itself is $650 ish a year
don't touch protecta they are lazy slack-arsed ****s probably from israel or something.
star/kiwibike (underwriters for star lol) etc they're pretty good and have a good payout history.

So much for the new found reliabilty being accepted by all. Looks like the same dirty old rumours are still circulating in certain quarters :D
(sorry to all Ducati owners, but this cracks me up:dodge: )

Maybe more to do with it getting pinched or availability of replacement parts, don't think insurance usually covers breakdowns maybe you were thinking warranty?
Anyways for me; kiwibike + ducati 900ss = $595 ($250 excess inc trackday cover)

they did great job getting me cover at about half what my home,contents,cars(2)company charged,i put the bike on my package until i'd sussed out bike cover from guys who specialise in it,dave and donna are great, nothings a problem, they even do auto payments, last year was lump sum payment, this year (swann who they got me with)they have premium payable monthly, extra $25 per year, also cover for track if needed, they are brokers so try to get the best deal.i've sussed out jetboy about roadside assist, and bike policy,he couldn't get anywhere near my premium, and said so,didn't try to sway me at all, even said without having my insurance with him roadside would be too expensive.i've got aa cover for car so upgraded it to aa plus which includes the bike. mind you when you get old it helps sometimes.

Yamaha R1 $10-11K Comphrensive, 3 years ago AMi $585 (with house cars etc all in deal). Last year State $610, high excess. This year NAC (national auto club) $507 with only $750 theft excess and 24hr roadside.....Difficult choice at times, just got to shop around.
I've just signed with classic, all our household, car etc is with Tower, who are very good with claims but wanted twice as much as classic to cover the bike.
I have been told Tower don't want to cover bikes ( due the risk ), you would think they would just say so, instead of ramping up the premiums, or maybe they've just heard of my piss-poor riding.

I am finally back and had a reply from kiwibiker Insurance Brokers and have basically said they have found a company that will in sure the monster for $540 a year which I think is rather reasonable.... What do you think?

Get a quote from jetboy before you go with kiwibike. His quote absolutely blitzed kiwibike's when it came time to renew mine and the excess was less than half too.

It's not just the premium cost which needs to be considered, check out the providers claim history before you commit, any premium is expensive if the insurance company does not perform when they are most needed.
