Does any one have any recommendations for overseas biking holidays? :scooter: Criteria:
Reasonably cheap
Interesting country (asia, africa, central / sth america etc)
Somewhere reputable to hire a bike
Ok-ish for a solo traveller (experienced travelling solo w/o bike through places like nepal, egypt, sth east asia)
Enough local repair knowledge in most towns (travelling solo remember!)
Some one posted about a trip through Cambodia recently which looks mighty interesting.
Any other ideas, experiences etc?
Cheers in anticpation

The South Island. They speak a form of English, the food is good, the natives are well feed and friendly, and NZ dollars are universally accepted. Visas are a bugger though.

Well we know all Wellingtonians are friendly Hitcher and we're more than happy to show you what a great road looks like haha........but back on the subject, India gets a tick in all those categories.:scooter:

Read Motorcycling Marsala and other books about motorcycling in India before jumping to too many conclusions. Exotic? Yes. Cheap? Depends. Reliable motorcycles? Well... Safe for solo travellers? Brave ones, maybe.
You'd certainly return with some great stories though.

I've been told South America's not too bad so long as you stay closeish to the coast

I've always found that any attempt at overseas motorcycle travel on my part ends up with a confused looking insurance clerk and all my riding gear smelling faintly of seaweed for a couple of months.
On a more helpful note, PM Mooch and ask him about organising a tour of Argentina.

Dunno about the rest of the world but if you're ever going through Europe I reckon you'd be mad not to hire a bike in Munich & spend a few days blatting around the Bavarian, Austrian & Italian Alps. Great fun, low stress & it's probably slightly cheaper than doing the same thing here.

How long are you thinking for?
Renting in South America is generally expensive.
I know they do dirt bike tours around Cuzco (Peru) so short term maybe an option. No guidance re cost sorry.
If you want to do Colombia (brilliant, been here 2 months http://www.darienmototours.com/introenglish/index.html). I can personally vouch for the quality of the operator Tibe (Tea-Bay) who seaks good english and will help even if you donŽt want to buy a tour.
If you are going for a longer term youŽll need to buy a bike.
If you want to go in 3 months IŽll sell you a KLR650 at a reasonable price, more or less anywhere in South America. If interested (in the place or the bike) I can give you further info if you email Josh DOT Forde at yahoo DOT com
Good luck - general guideline is that the motos are expensive down here, everything else is dirt cheap unless of course youŽre talking about Argentinian women.
