View Full Version : Welly Crew bunch of arrogant w**kers !!

Deano
6th June 2007, 12:06
Apparently the goss is that myself and a few of the Welly Crew are arrogant, and would not want to ride with anyone who is slower than us.

It's news to me as I don't recall ever trying to turn anyone away from TRTNR or other rides we have been on. We do tend to ride as a group but anyone is welcome to tag along, and people have done in the past, regardless of their abilites.

So who started this rumour ?

I have an idea......and you're full of shit pal !!

I'm slow as arse, but don't think I'd feel shunned by you hoons!! I however wouldn't expect you all to escort me anywhere in convoy, but know that you guys and gals do wait for the slow pokes to catch up, so maybe whoever said that expected a hand holding session??:innocent:

I want to ride with you guys... all I need is tyres and gas money. I would hope that I'd be allowed to ride with you fellas and that you might teach me about how to ride. I'll learn from anyone that'll show me.

They seem like a good bunch to me. Met one or two in person when they've been down here in Christchurch, and talked to many more through KB via PM or just general banter. I wouldn't expect they'd turn me away from a ride if I showed up... at least, not for not-being-able-to-keep-up reasons anyway! :blip:

Speaking of arogant wankers etc, a chap last week told me about his brother in law who is the leader of a BMW riding group where if anyone not on a BMW joins them while riding, the BMW lot stop and wait for the non BMW to leave. That is if they have'nt already flown past due to them slowing to give the unwashed rider the hint.
I'm not sure if its the local BMW lot up here or somewhere else.

Oh I couldn't help myself, I 'd go out riding on my GSXR just to hunt them down and force them to stop and wait. I'd stop as well, and just stand there all silent like. And when they ride off again, so would I.

Funny. I recently moved to the wellybum region from more northern climates and noticed something odd. Up north, I ride with anyone and anything, nothings safe, but the more south I got the more aggressive and arrogant I got. Now I dont ride my bike at all for fear of sharing the road with an undeserving person...in fact, I dont go out any longer in case I have to share the footpath. Its a stretch to even come in here and share the internet and thoughts with you lot as none of you deserve me. If thats what its like this far south, how bad would the south Islanders be???? I'm surprised...nay forlorn that they decide to breath in protest of sharing oxygen with the rest of us.

actually, the wellybum bums seem a really top notch bunch o cunts

Nope, all true, and the guy who told me that has been in the motorcycle industry for years and is local.
He referred to his brother in law as a 'tosser'.
Said it was kind of like 'rules' within that BMW group.
Whether its rules nationally, dunno, but surely not, thats way too fucked up.

I used to ride a BMW K100RS but all my mates had sportier machinery, so I was used to wringing its neck in an attempt to keep up with them. I must say that with a few exceptions, I found other large capacity Beemer riders to be a pretty insular and slow lot. Their websites were awful places with a complete absence of humour. Stop moaning about KB - you don't know what a crap website is until you've visited the BMW ones!

The Welly bikers I know are all great people:Punk:

Well done Dooly. One thing puzzles me. Why would the beemer group need to slow, or stop to let a non-BMW go on ahead? BMWs are already so bloody slow, even push bikes give up and ride on ahead!

Deano, well I think it's a badge of honour to be described as an arrogant wanker of a rider :Punk: . I've worked hard for years to earn that reputation and Traffic Cops regularly use it when speaking to me, in what I always assumed was a term of endearment. Is it not a compliment?

Roogazza - I wouldn't be surprised if we find Deano is awake much earlier in spring and looking for excuses to sneak out of the house at sunrise. He is still in that honeymoon marriage stage :dodge: It'll wear off.

Yeah we had lunch with ya didn't we and even let ya close to our top chicks - sounds like welcoming to me, not arrogant.

I'm a Hawkes Bay man by birth so maybe I don't count here and I can't say I've ever felt shunned by anyone. I'd say I'm a quick rider (not fast) but I don't ride to keep up with the fast guys and I don't mind coz at my age my eyes aren't up to it any more anyway - you know the old presbiopia - you just can't focus at all ranges quickly and while glasses help they can't fix the problem.

I haven't seen you that much Deano, but I've never had a problem talking to you when I have, and I regularly see MD and its always a pleasure talking to such an enthusiast - how could anyone think of you as arrogant?

So arrogant w**kers in Welly? Nah, never met any.

I reckon 30 at our last lunch was a tribute to the camaraderie that is developing. I don't help myself mixing with the crowd because I have other things on as well and am away a lot, so don't ride that often but I couldn't complain one bit about any of the people I have met.

Deano you did a lot for organising the sprints and hillclimb and anyone that works hard for the biking community needs thanks surely, not criticism.

Shit, I am not a Honda rider now, maybe I think the Welly crew are a bunch of arrogant w**kers.

But having met a ton of Welly riders and being a Welly rider myself I don't think we are arrogant w**kers. While I have not been on a Thursday ride or ridden with you guys in the weekend, I don't think that is because you don't want me (or others) to join you.

I think the issue may be to do with the perceived pace you guys and girls ride at. Maybe this person is a little concerned they would end up riding outside their comfort zone, and have subconsciously come to the conclusion they are not welcome to prevent this from happening.

Yeah that Deano is a w*nker,

I'm forever seeing him going past my place on his way for another ride, while I'm toiling away in the garden or at some DIY.
Then some hours later he's back past heading home, and I'm sure I can see the smug grin through his visor while I'm still toiling away.

Bastard.

Same with every other bugger on a bike in Maungaraki, the place is riddled with them, and they all have to go past my place on their way out and back again, you're all w*nkers. (pt)

Just been to my usual weekly biker lunch - only 3 KBers and a few not KBers but not a w**ker in sight. The Welly crew are great. Kendog we were back where I saw you a few weeks ago but no sign of you today.

I used to hate it how, in my learner nana slow days, the Welly crew would be so arrogant that they'd always wait for me to catch up to them at intersections and various stops. I used to arrive and they'd wave "hi" at me, and how we'd all leave at once... so arrogant.

How they'd come up, introduce themselves, and talk to me about my bike, being supportive, and giving me riding tips.

How they'd text me when there were impromptu rides.

How they'd invite me out to the pub afterward.

Oh, and how they'd WAVE at me when I was riding through town, and anywhere else they saw me.

And ESPECIALLY how they have bi-weekly (and sometimes more) open rides which anybody can attend.

All this... so arrogant.

...

Due to all this arrogant behavior, I became an arrogant bastard who exhibits all of the traits above (just so that I could "fit in"). I especially enjoy waiting for newbie riders to catch up at intersections. So arrogant.

It aint the wind, it's just that we only really have one direction to head, if we wanna go for a hoon, so most of us are pretty familiar with the road, not sure about the time it takes tho, only ever tried to time it in a van, and got so bored with it, I forgot to check the clock at the top.

ummm...I dont want to sound arrogant here, but I think Deano was refering to a smaller group than the entire Welly riding community. It would seem, that a small bunch who usually ride together, and party together, have been tarred with this brush. I'm not overly fussed as to the rumor myself, but I was surprised to hear it none the less.

Wellington as a whole, has a very cool biker pod, and most are very friendly and welcoming to all, as are the w*#nkers in question, but since they are only really seen riding together, I think people have mistaken that to mean they aint interested in anyone else riding, partying, or socialising with them.

OK just so you can get this in perspective and let the w**kers do the numbers I've checked a few GPS tracks I had on my PC. Now remember I'm an old guy and some of the rides I do Mrs merv is on the back of the VFR and when you say bridge to bridge you're meaning the bridge before Kaitoke Country Gardens to the twin bridges on the 'rapa side right? I don't seem to have kept a straight through track but here's what I do have:

From Kaitoke Bridge to top distance is 6.61 km.

On this cruisy ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=47615 I did that in 6 mins 14 secs with Mrs on the back of the VFR and I don't think the traffic was light that day.

Average speed 64 kph.

From the top of the hill to the twin bridges is 7.19 km.

Same ride, that took us 9 mins 3 secs in heavy traffic and there a no passing lanes on that downhill.

Average speed 48 kph.

Total distance 13.8 km, time including slow down and speed up at top but not counting time stopped 15 mins 17 secs - about the same time Deano did it in the car, so yes a cruisy ride - average speed 54 kph.

To do it in 9 minutes you'd have to average 92 kph.

As a further comparison on this ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=48435 I took the XR250L and we only went to the top and back again, not down the 'rapa side. That day I did the 6.61 km to the top in 5 mins 19 secs for an average speed of 75 kph and that was in heavy traffic too. Solo on the VFR I probably would be quicker and light traffic would knock a lot off the time.

My conclusion would be that at my age I doubt I'd be a 9 min guy with a straight free run these days, probably more a 10 or 11.

Hope you enjoy the stats and you can figure out your own comparisons.

OK went away and checked the numbers - reverse direction on the same cruisy ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=47615 on the way home, Mrs still on the back (phew never lost her!!) 'rapa to top 7.19 km in 7 mins 1 sec at 61 kph, so over 2 mins faster, and top to Kaitoke 6.61 km in 6 mins 11 secs at 65 kph so only marginally faster on that leg - the uphills are definitely easier for passing the traffic.

Hey I wasn't breaking any records and well its against the law to go over 100 anywhere, but interesting all the same don't ya reckon.

I'd like to point out, The "Gladdy pub show", was a properly marshelled, and safe environment, and no-one from Welly was doin anything at all stupid.

Rant over.:innocent:

Bro, anyone that is preforming like that is definitely a wanker. You know it, I know it, most know it. That simple really.

Met up with a few arrogant w**kers again today despite the chilllli conditions and violent cross winds. Nice and clear tho'

Had a blast over to Wainui and down to the coast - first time for me on this road, so good fun. Very little traffic and some great corner action. Bit bumpy mind.

Clear but cold conditions saw me getting a little loose; locked up the back braking too hard and too late into one particular corner. No major dramas tho'.

Only other drama was freezing our proverbials in the wind at the coast when Flame's RSV refused to fire up. Must be those dodgy Italian electrics, eh?
Jimbo600 was on the case though, bringing along some jumper leads all the way back from a servo in Wainui. Meanwhile a friendly cager lent us a set and we got the bike humming - just as Jimbo arrived! Typical...

Sedate ride back and home in time for cocoa in front of the fire.

Highly recommend a ride out with the Wellington Crew Arrogant W**kers. (WCAW)

If anyone had been doin stupid stuff, I'm sure you would have been very stern in telling them not to, and would never have joined in, on someone elses bike.
