On the news tonight was the proposed new racetrack.
Its slightly south of mere mere and definitely has elevation changes.
The plan I saw seemed to show a full circuit and a club circuit.
does anyone have a copy of the plans

What is the definition of a Grade 2 circuit?

No Bumps? Yea, as long as they don't let trucks and V8's onto it it'll just stay that way too.

Yeah, think they said it will be up and running by 2006. Will be good.

Hopefully taupo has their alterations done sometime soon aswell.

What?

And pigs might fly. I suspect the V8's will be the main reason behind building the track.
Truck racing sucks, though.

For sure. It's just that after two seasons of V8s on it it will have major ripples on the outside of most corners making it relatively one line'ish for motorcyclists.

Perhaps we have a different opinon as to what a geek is. If only we could grab the attention of those very clever intellectual types who are busy disscusing Undergoung education or what ever the hell they are on about over on that other thread.

What about it Mike, JR, Mr Hitcher, PT, can you spare some of your vast wisdom and define a "Geek" for us ?

The last sentence is interesting.

Motorcycling New Zealand chief executive Trevor Gill said his organisation had been approached over motorcycle road racing requirements and from what he knew of the project, the circuit would be to the level required for hosting a round of the world Superbike championship.

Ta for the heads-up, Dave. Here you go.

geek n. Slang

1. A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
3. A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

Our word geek is now chiefly associated with student and computer slang; one probably thinks first of a computer geek. In origin, however, it is one of the words American English borrowed from the vocabulary of the circus, which was a much more significant source of entertainment in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century than it is now. Large numbers of traveling circuses left a cultural legacy in various and sometimes unexpected ways. For example, Superman and other comic book superheroes owe much of their look to circus acrobats, who were similarly costumed in capes and tights. The circus sideshow is the source of the word geek, “a performer who engaged in bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.” We also owe the word ballyhoo to the circus; its ultimate origin is unknown, but in the late 1800s it referred to a flamboyant free musical performance conducted outside a circus with the goal of luring customers to buy tickets to the inside shows. Other words and expressions with circus origins include bandwagon (coined by P.T. Barnum in 1855) and Siamese twin.

Or so I assume.....

FROSTY
15th September 2004, 20:44
Take a closer look you guys.Notice how theyve planned it so there is a shorter but just as interesting circuit for club racing . Also there is a simpler -basicly 5 corner track for driver training.
And did ya scope out the elevation changes -we are talking a real hill climb then a diving fast left hander kinda like the corkscrew at LS

Probably clockwise - same as most other circuits. Also looks like the right direction for fast straights into tight corners, with sweeper leading into start finish straight.

Nice. so when do I get a go :doobey:

6 circuits in NZ 2 run clockwise 4 run anticlockwise

I'd say anticlockwise,I'm assuming that's the pitlane entry on the inside edge of the track coming onto the straight from the right of the pic.

svs
16th September 2004, 06:57
I'm still going for clockwise. betcha a beer kickaha :apint:

I reckon the pit lane exits near the first corner - else it looks like it would be halfway down the straight. Too big a speed difference.

Anyone got any details?

Yeah you can...as long as they have a marked merging lane....seems a lot safer than having them pull into the racing line just as people are braking from top speed for the bottom right corner? But looking at the run-off areas doesn't seem to give much away either.....maybe its designed to run in both directions?!?!?

I also see a skid pad and a road under a bridge leading into the infield too!!! Yay no more waiting at the track crossing!!

Pukie could be -should be a good track . If the club circuit was sorted out and a s bend built into the back straight it would be halfway reasonable -
Ohh hang on and move the fence on the "hill" back a fair bit and put a sand trap there. Uhh and deal with the subsidence of the track under turn 6
But the jockey club dont care and wont put money into it untill its too late
