I don't think it's actually big enough........nice try tho.

I had this brief gleam of avarice in my eye, visions of my water front property (well, I can see the water) quadrupling in value and then I remembered its the Manukau I can see. Bugger!

Good to see the guys coming through so well, only Alinghi to beat now.

An excellent race. What match racing is about, covering the opposition and not allowing them to get an advantage, instead of just splitting tacks and sailing around the course trying to find the next windshift.

Good on them!

Yaaaaaawn!

Party dude. Huuuge mobile party.
It's not about the boats - it's about the bar - and the buzz of the place when it's here.

I don't think they will maha man, the Swiss cheeses have not got Russell Coutes with them this time.

It should be a pretty good tussle and could go any way at this stage.

I just object to the government giving them tax payers money, they should have stayed out of it. (IMHO)

I do enjoy the Americas cup though for what it is! Cheers John.

.

I agree... the time they should have given some cash was to keep it here in the country not to try and get it back...

Couttes is not in the team. He got tossed out shortly after winning the cup. Butterworth is Alinghi's skipper. If Couttes was racing I'd go for Alinghi but with Butterworth, skipping, Barker got be the front runner with 'current' race experiance. That's gotta give him the edge.

I think in the media they should refer to the current holders of the Americas Cup as "cunning".

The Cunning Alinghi team have a new tactic.

Those Cunning Alinghi team members are working hard.

That was a fine display of some Cunning Alinghi sailing.

Cunning Alinghi have got the opposition licked

Wasn't it about $34 million of our dollars?
Would it have killed them to put something that remotely promoted New Zealand on that big red kite of theirs???
All them same., well done Team Emirates.......so far

They knew what they were doing. Around 2/3rds of that came back as taxes, what with Team NZ being a New Zealand owned company and all that. About fourty million dollars was injected into the Auckland economy as a result too, AND it meant that the skills developed for very damn hi-tech boatbuilding were retained in the country. Good thing too, it looks like we're going to need them.

Even better is the economic impact of a win, and subsequent defence of the America's Cup. A half billion dollars comes from overseas and the vast majority of it stays in Auckland (you lucky lucky jafa's).

Wasn"t it one of our boys who invented the new weather bouy markers that are floating around while they"re racing????they give them a wind report every 15 seconds..NZ is leading the way in more ways than one if this is any example!!!!!

I guess you realise if Team New Zealand wins, they will most likely defend the Cup off Dubai:shit:

Qatar? Cough it up.

Are you confident that Team New Zealand will lick the Cunning Alinghi team then?

Interesting. He was hired as the "tactician". Promotion, or moved sideways?

The sailing team is led by three-time America’s Cup winner, Brad Butterworth, Alinghi’s skipper, vice-president and legendary tactician. Butterworth can count on many top sailors including Peter Holmberg, Ed Baird, Juan Vila, Jordi Calafat, Warwick Fleury, Simon Daubney, and Murray Jones to name just a few of the outstanding members of Alinghi. Plus three-time Olympic Gold medalist, Jochen Schuemann, is the sports director for the sailing team.

That's from Alinghi's website. But who knows with the America's cup. The could bring Couttes in at the last minute. I think he's still on the payroll I think or under some contract of some kind. That's why no one else has got him. He's pissed someone off pretty bad.
