My brother travelled from Christchurch - Greymouth - Westport - Nelson - Picton - Wellington... Auckland, and return. You may remember my thread after the AA decided that he didn't deserve help because he wasn't carrying a spare tyre.

He took some photos on the way. He's an insane 49cc champ imo.

If you just take your time, its surprising how well scooters go.

Jesus. That's a solid effort for a scooter. He must have had to carry spare fuel on him...

Must be a bloody patient guy too.

Yeah, he was going to go to Cape Reinga, but I think he'd had enough by Auckland.

He had one run in with a cage enroute, woman overtook him and then pulled over, and did a u-turn directly in front of him. Apparently she "didn't see him" aka "didn't look" - that's the cause of the single mirror, I'm assuming.

Well done that man. Has he got any feeling back in his arse end yet?
Dont think I'd be up for it(not solo anyway), but respect to him for doing the miles

:gob: That is a mission and a half! Kudos for that and he's mad - my kind of mad! :msn-wink:

What's his next raison d'etre? Going to one of those little scooter skateboards?

Top work from your brother - looking forward to his next madcap stunt!

Oh yeah - how much fuel did he use?

Your brother deserves a beer!! What a journey. Did he only have that little box of luggage for a trip like that??

Full marks to your brother, well done, I met 2 gorgeous swedish girls a few years ago who were doing similar on 2 scoots, they had already done most of the eastern side of Aussie and were heading for Uluru when I met them, bloody nutters if you ask me, but gotta salute the spirit.
Quiet Woman Way, is that the one that has a cemetary at the end?

That is one awesome journey! Jeez - there's some in the touring forum who haven't made that kind of distance on their tricked-out super-tourers!

Riding Christchurch to Queenstown on a ET3 Vespa I was surprised and delighted by how much more there was to take in along the way at max 80kph. I imagine your bro got a real eyeful of the scenery at 60 or so. I bet he had less fuel concerns than me with his mega economy too.:scooter:

I would so love to do something like this. maybe a group ride. :)
Although I'm sure my dodgy 50cc would crap out 1/2 way

Yeah I've been thinking about doing a mass-scooter ride as well. Probably do the West Coast SI, maybe Caitlins, because Canterbury plains at 60 would be pretty monotonous. How long did it take him to complete this trip?

50mph? You're doing pretty well to get to that on a 50cc scooter! hehe.
As for de-restricting, it's fairly easy, there are heaps of sites showing you step by step how to do it, just do a google search and go for it.
