SOLD for $5100, after going halves for shipping.
Heading overseas in September, so the bike's for sale...
Now with Trademe link: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=111425463
Great condition RF900! 37000 miles.
- Touring seat
- Pack rack
- Handlebar warmers
- Zorsts Exhaust (Made Exhasusts for John Britten! http://sites.yellow.co.nz/site/motorcycleexhaustspecialists/Zorsts.html)
Sad to sell, these bikes have heaps of power and you couldn't buy a better sports-tourer for the price! The engine's based on the gsxr1100 bottom end and is understressed... Current holder of World Endurance Record of 246km/h average speed over 24hrs!! Set in 1994 and still stands! Just goes to show the incredible reliability of this bike!!
Just had a thorough service with new front tyre (Bridgestone Battleaxe BT020s), rear brake disk and iridium plugs. Rear type has lots of thread left.
Afew nicks and scratches consistent with age. Would like to handover bike closer to September. PM for more details.
Cheers!

Hi there,
I'm interested in your bike. Can you tell me as much about the condition of it as possible? I'm in Whangarei, ..... and you're in Wellington ??
Obviously as I'm so far away, I need to know as much as possible about the bike before I consider jumping on a plane to come down!
I am returning to biking after many years away from it, so am a bit rusty ... but bloody cautious!! I've ridden some 250's lately, as have been looking at buying new, and can't afford a mid range - to under litre new bike.
I need to buy a bike that will give me many many trouble free miles. Something that doesn't require work on because there is something brewing .., as I need to use the bike for commuting and weekend touring with my wife, .. i.e. two up travel in weekends.
I want something that is smooth and powerful, with good brakes and handling that is secure and predictable ..... just under normal use ..... I'm not into warp factor 9 riding !! ... just being able to blast past cars etc easily when overtaking .... and plenty of grunt to roll on out of slow corners, without having to constantly rake through the gears.
I have heard that Suzuki 900's are good for touring, and reasonably reliable.
Ok .... tell me more about it, ... all the good .. and any bad. I'm too far away to buy a lemon .. and find out about it too late !!
Cheers,
Grant.
P.S. what is your rock bottom price .... as it will cost me to get down to Wellyville and a stop on the way overnight probably (for me anyway), on my way back to Whangarei.

Yeah, check back and see how it's going then... :)

Yup... What's there to say... errr... It's been solid as a rock! I've commuted on it over the past 18 months as well, only ever went to the shop for scheduled servicing, never had any fault with it. Starts 1st time even on cold mornings, hold the throttle open a crap for about 30secs and you're away purring. Exhaust is adjustable for noise, all you need is a spanner and an allen key.
There are some nicks on both sides of the fairings from noobie no speed drops. Only cosmetic damage, which I'll send you a photos of. I went from a 250 bandit onto this bike, which is abit heavier and took abit of getting used to.

Like I said, I went from bicycle, to 50cc scooter, to 250cc bandit, to 900cc RF, and the thing that stood out was that the RF didn't try to bite my hand off. As with any bike, it's your right wrist that wields the power. This one delivers it very smoothly and predictably.

Yup, the Mrs hops on the back and I don't even feel the difference! Mind you, my Mrs weighs 46kgs... 120hp or so, 100Nm of torque, no problems 2-up. :)

Yup, you sound like me when I was looking for a bike! To be honest, I tried out a Ducati 996 and a 2004 CBR1000 recently and actually preferred my 1996 RF overall, which is worth a third the price of those bikes!! Incredible!

I think the price listen on here is fair. You could get a KB'er to check out the bike and give you an independent assessment of it, then pay for a bike transporter to bring it up to you if you like... That might be cheaper. I paid $360 to get the bike brought up from Dunedin when I bought it. Should be cheaper for you not having to cross Cook Strait. Try http://www.biketranz.co.nz/
Cheers!

Gizzit - that bike is at the low end of about right price-wise. Still possible to see them asking up to 7g. Your needs as stated are describing an RF900. Whatchu waiting for??

Interesting.
I was thinking it was priced well. A little high.
It is an 11 year old bike (yes, 1996 was 11 years ago) and although some people are asking $7k for them, those people need a bullet.
If I were still in the market for a 900 then I would be looking at 48-5000 for it.
But I am not so beside the point really.
But there is a chap up the road.... Wait a little.. Yod should be along soon.

Really, the price is about right. Still low ks. And it'll still be going fine when your Kwaka is getting old age pains.....

And by then it will either be sold or worth less........price is ok, i sold my 98' Yamaha Thundercat last year for $8k....an item for sale is worth only what you get for it....to the purchaser...

Could be a sticking point? As Mahaman said - could be worth less then (unlikely, but what if you damage it in the meantime?) If someone says "Yep! I'll take it" perhaps you'd better let it go then and there?

 relax - i haven't:
1) made an offer
2) had it accepted
3) said im happy with the timeframe
4) got enough cash yet anyway
AND there's one in palmy for $4500 with 10000 less kms on it....haven't looked at it in the flesh yet though but sounds like its worth a nosey....

absoultely.
That was a good sale for you, On the contary, I brought my zx9 for 5600 a few months ago.. My advice (FWIW) is that 95-99 big bikes are worth between 4 and 6 grand depending on condition. 7 or 8 and the seller is making a really good deal.
Trademe is a good example how people want moonbeams for 88-93 bikes. Doesnt mean they are going to get it.
Added to that I said from the go that this guy seems fair price. A little high for the rf9 because there are others a little cheaper but fair. MSTRS said 7. I was commenting 7 seems excessive. But he is not selling for 7. he is selling for just over 5 which seems fair.

I said I'd seen people asking 7. Doesn't mean they'd get it. My opinion is that this bike would be a good one, and I agree the asking price is fair.

Hey, if youre interested I've got an RF900 that I'm considering selling soon.
Done 40,000 miles, just replaced needles, jets and emulsion tubes with Factory Pro items imported from the States. Has Scorpion exhaust, K&N filter, good tyres, pack rack. Some stone chips and paint work a bit scruffy, but runs pretty good. Heres a couple of photo's.
