View Full Version : Cruisers or sports bikes - what do you ride?
Toaster

Because I am bored and can't catch a mouse if I tried....
I'd like to know what proportion of riders we have out there that ride either cruisers, sports bikes, trikes, off roaders or scooters. It would be interesting to see what the make-up of KB really is stats-wise.
To you cruiser riders around the Auckland districts - keep an eye out for the 24 June Cruiser ride.

I wanted to get Honda VT250 Magna for my first bike. Lusted after it for a month then sat my basic handling skills test got my learner licence, went back to the shop, sat on the bike and said "Oh dear, this is not comfortable at all!" and have ridden sportsbikes ever since.

Should be an easy opening for all the broken-records out there.

That's not fair...no Tourer category.
Technically, I don't think my ST fits into the "sprots" category....too big.
It's not a cruiser...feet in the wrong place.
That just leaves me riding a scooter???

Venture bike! There are quite a lot of us left out here. :nono: John.

And another on an adventure bike. No option for us riders at all. Not even a tourer which would be the next closest, nor a sports/tourer, so I guess I'd have to say sports.

Sorry Toaster - please also include Hyperbikes (12s, 14s, Busas, Blackbirds and K1200s[es]). Not really considered sportsbikes or tourers.

Agree...too many categories missed out. Spose we could have said "naked road bike" to cater for the muscle bikes and cafe racers of this world. Anyway... hasn't this been done before?

If you call HD's FXR a cruiser, then that's what I ride. There are many reasons why I ride what I do, one of them being; I got a good deal off a mate. Another is, I can fix it myself, it's pretty simple in its construction etc. (Some would say agricultural.) It's been reliable and is unstressed on the open road. I'm also impressed at how easy it is to get parts for and how quickly they arrive, should you need them. Most of the parts dealers/agents offer good service. It's the whole package really.

AH but there in lies the problem, the definition of a cruiser, in my mind its a ride that you sit upright or close to, in a comfortable seat (armchair), legs set between straight and the 90 degree mark, Arms in a relaxed position. and can be Naked or not... ...uhoh, :dodge:

I've gradually made the progression through the years. Started with the naked bikes since that was all the go back then. When the faired bikes came into prominence, went with the flow. Last few have been naked and then recently started taking a few cruisers for test rides and have started to like the experience. Took a Mean Streak out on the weekend and got on pretty well with that.

I assumed the Blackbird comes under "sports" category.
But I ride it like an old woman ( not meaning to offend any geriatric lady riders ).

I voted "sports bike" because that was the closest category. The FJR is probably a bit homosexual to qualify as a back-achingly hard-on sprotsbike. Once again this poll really demonstrates that people who ride sprotsbikes need to get out more...

I don't know about you, but I ride motorcycles. I don't give a rat's banana what niche manufacturers, or marketers, or dealerships want to put it in.
But as far as those definitions are understood, both my bikes are "Streetbikes". Neither fowl nor fish, but a shit load of fun.

Strange forum to be posted in the Cruiser section. I've put the SV in the sprots bike category, but it's really more of a 'sporty-standard'.
I think that if you examine what people seem to ride you'd find most of us ride standard type bikes that lean towards the sporty or cruiser spectrum. Let's face it NZ has probably been influenced far more by the British motorcycling industry than the American, so our 'heritage' (if that's the right word) is more towards the sporty standard side of things.
Or I could just be spouting a load of bollocks. Again.
