What i mean is an event similar to what us downunder are organising which is pretty much south islanders only, would i guess be a nightmare to organise but was thinking one year held in the south island the next in the north.....i hear north islanders saying theres not much in the way of rallys up there so would fit in with them and would be a great ride for us down here.......would be great to put faces to........ummm..well you know what i mean, any interest in doing something like this.

We do now have a Annual North Island KB Get together, Turangi-Queens Birthday Weekend :-) as you have your South Island one later in the year, all it needs is to extend the invite to both Islands heheheh, a great idea to try and get both islands to meet a couple times a year then everyone has two options every year to try to make one of em... en the end Im sure any SI's would be welcome at any NI one and vice versa... eh wot!

My vote would be for the Waiarapa. That way most South Islanders can do it in a four day Weekend. To be reasonable for anyone south of Nelson/Blenhiem it needs to be within 3 hours ride of the ferry.

No problem with that on occasion - whether the first or otherwise.

But the same argument would put Nelson or Kaikoura as about the limit in the other direction, and I think it'd be sad if the event never left the middle of the country - especially for those of us who live here - and for those at the ends who would never get a cheap one.

I'd kind of like to see a long term plan that looks something like this:
Wairarapa/Wellington
Canterbury/West Coast
Northland
Nelson/Marlborough
Taupo/Taranaki/Hawkes Bay
Southland
et cetera

So it kind of cycles round; the keen people get to see the whole of the country, and most people get somewhere closeish every 2 years or so.

This is a great idea, and with plenty of notice (6 months??) we could get a good bunch of people together with out a doubt. One thing though, Feb is not a good time for me, just back from summer break, to ask for more time off would be bit rich. Prefer it to be warm, so maybe March/April would work? Avoiding public/school holidays is probably a good idea too. I like the idea of alternating between islands too each year, and agree that not too big a trip past the ferry crossing would work best for all. For those that want a bigger ride to get there, hang tight, watch the callander and ummmmm travel to a KB do a bit further away

The Wairarapa is a fairly spread out kinda place. If this event were to happen over there... Where would it happen? Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm talking firm locations coz we'll need to book in advance.

Thats the farmstay, animal park. I didnt know they had accommodation.. well for large groups, but I can get info on them.

I agree best to arrange it so its not the weekends of the martinborough fair or the school hoildays.

My only problem with lake ferry is weather wise it can flocking blow there ,if no wind cannot beat the place , my last visit to Mt Holdsworth resulted in coming back to and finding some bugger nicked the battery in the cage but that was a few years ago thro

How about late January - early February. Or the weekend after easter. The latter date would mean we South Islanders could simply stay in the North Island after "The Mini's Return" ride.

Not a great variety of good rides from Lake Ferry.

A base further north will leave the event open to more options with respect to routes and distances over good roads. Rides could then be set to venture into the Sth Wairarapa, accross into Manawatu/Rangitikei or up into the Southern Hawkes Bay depending on weather etc.

Liking the pub across the road thing, but.........Mom needs a bed at the end of the night, bit too old for the sleep where you drop stuff, and bunk rooms are embarrasing to the max.....cos sometimes I snore :o

Yeah Feb is out for us.....there should be a polling booth somewhere as to when is the best time for all concerned....and place. There have been some good ideas but i think 98 should put in place a vote/poll so that there can be some indication of where this is heading. The area seems settled on and thats a start.

 I have been talking to the powers to be about ferry crossing's on the bluebridge service for a KB get together Once we know date's and numbers we can arrange a group booking at a special rate.....this would make it more affordable for those that travlling from the south...I cant say what the price will be yet as it will depend on numbers but it gives us something to work with

December and January are excluded for discounted fare's as even the staff pay full fare duing those months which is understandable

Hope this helps and now its up to all of us too sort out date's and venue but easter sounds like a good plan:Punk:

Awsome work Dogs, thats the sort of thing that needs attending to. A show of hands right now and there should be about 6-7 going, when realistically there could upwards of 50-60 or so given the time till the intended date and when it gets that size...logistically it could be a shit load of work for someone to finalise.

Great work there dogs .. we really need to sort a date out .. do we have someone who is gonna take the lead in this one ???

I do not mind helping out where needed ... but we sure at least need a date & venue .. then a date when we need to have numbers to dogs for confirming travel & prices etc ...

I have had lunch at the pub at Lake Ferry. The weather was somewhere between interesting and impressive. It certainly got my attention.
For the Douglas Adams fans among us........I now know where the restaurant at the end of the universe is.

Seriously tho, if you are looking for somewhere in the Wairarapa, the facilities in the camp attached to the showgrounds at Carterton aren't too bad. There's a pub just down the road and a golf course just round the corner, if that's what floats your boat. There's plenty of space, reasonably priced and reasonably central.

At Wharekauhau I see in the Entertainment book the fixed lunch menu is $85 per head, the fixed dinner menu $175 per head and the card only gets you 25% off the bill up to a max of $40 - generous huh.

Otherwise two nights on the special package here http://www.wharekauhau.co.nz/specialoffer.html is only around a couple of grand per person, so I guess all us bikers can afford that no sweat eh? Why would you want to stay in Gladstone?

Where's Finn when we need him - perhaps he could book the joint out for us?
