Bought a Transalp on Tuesday and took it for its first outing today.
Left the Hutt about 9.30 and it was freezing up the motorway. Jeff has hot grips on this bike so he was happy (he had them on full all day) I was sitting up the back and had my hands in his pockets.
Few brave souls at the Caltex Rimutaka waiting to head off on a ride.
We went to the Lake Reserve at Featherston (a really neat place for off road riding there) and had a look about, nice change from stopping at the gate! Went to Martyborough for a cup of tea and warmup.
Went out to Hinekura and up through Admiral Road. Hit a pukeko while still on the tarseal (thought we might have wrecked the bike on its first outing) but Jeff kept the bike upright. There were four pukekos on the side of the road and one decided to commit hari kari and ran straight into the front wheel! (so are Pukekos an endangered species?) Started to rain through there. More pukekos, couple of bulls and a gaggle? of turkeys standing at the side of the road (no fences). Didn't realise there was a couple of gates to open on the way through and went back to check the signpost to make sure we were heading the right way. Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere out there.
Ended up at Gladstone pub for lunch. Really nice with the fire going, but we started to cook after a while with all the clothes we had on. Left there and went up Mt. Dick (see we got there Merv!). Quite a good road up the hill and certainly worth going up for a looksee.
Have to say the Transalp was really good two up. Easy pulls 150k two up and the seat is really comfortable with the back footpegs down low too.
Lots more roads over the Wairarapa that we will be able to have a look down now, specially on days that are a bit poopy!
