At this stage it seems we have a few starters for this and have roughly decided on an area for the first one, thought a poll to decide what month to have it would be in order............

Feb too hot.

March far enough after the holidays so prices have dropped again - but the temp is easy enough...

But - WHERE? Seems that for the first one anyway Wairarapa keeps coming up......suits me anyway, where abouts in the Wairarapa i am not sure but we can work that out with a poll or whatever later,if we can decide on a month that will be a good start.

Late March or early April to avoid The Mini's Return (Finishes in Kaitaia on 22 March). I imagine there will be a bunch of KB southerners who are participating in that event and may be interested in a get-together somewhere on their way home.

March please..cos it'll be around my birthday and therefor I am thoroughly entitled to do whatever I please..:innocent:

Oh hang on, I do that everyday anyway!:stupid:

Seems March is clearly going to be the month of choice......will give it a few more days.As has been said the first weekend in march is a big event for us downunder so any chance we can have it after that.55 votes isnt bad....we would lose a few to unexpected things but still sounds like good numbers.

Top man for getting this one started.......Weekends towards the end of March are 22nd/23rd or 29th/30th, for us it means taking a Friday and Monday off work, so as the book keeping member of the household, the 22nd weekend suits me better, cant imagine asking for the 31st March off work.......LOL... anyone know when Easter is next year? As usual, we can't please everyone Anne.
The Guys doing the Rusty Nuts Return of the Mini will prefer the last weekend in March cos they'll be on the road for the 22nd/23rd.
Still, as pointed out earlier, there were bound to be some clashes. Just have to go for the date that suits the most, I guess.

Well maybe I got this wrong.
As I recall, the mini finishes in Kaitaia on the Saturday. However, it is an endurance event, so maybe some would choose to keep on going and join us in the Wairarapa on the Sunday.
There were some harder ironbutt feats than that, after the Southern Cross.

Hmm so would be a good time to have the KB get-together in March and co-ordinate it with the hill climb?

Whos going to start organising this get-together? Any ideas where in the Rapa you want to stay, sorry my backyard isnt quite big enough... and I dont have enough beer. :D

I reckon it would be a happy coincidence. Maybe the serious hill climbers wouldn't want to be on the large the night before so much.

Over on the other thread, I suggested the camp at the A&P showgrounds in Carterton. The reason was, that it is not a commercial camp and so will be unused (unless there is an event on at the showgrounds of course). This is compared to any commercial camps which will be flat out over Easter.
In addition, if the KB group were the only occupiers, we could set our own rules as to noise, lights out, etc, etc where at a commercial camp we are subject to someone else's.

Excellent idea Neil.... i like the thinking...and correct me if im wrong but isnt that around the street where that multi murder took place years ago and they removed the house?....:innocent:

Was saying to Anne last night Mel...that someone in Masterton should take this over, theres heaps of time and if ya need a hand with anything just ask. Oh did i mention that i vote You!...:innocent: its a big undertaking i know but it would be so much easier for someone there to do this. If not, it could fall flat and nothing would get done...if were up this way we would do it without hesitation...it needs that hands on approach....Mark

I dont mind helping to organise it... if I am given enough time and some beer. I havent organise anything on this scale before, so I might have to entice some other rapa/welly people to help me out.

How about if I get some ideas of where to hold the shingdig, and get back to you all.

I need an idea of where abouts you guys want to stay..

For example... Near a Pub? With Cabins or just Tent it?

The A&P show grounds is near the Carterton Brothel... was that another attraction too Bass?

If anyone wants to help me... please PM me. If anyone wants to organise it themselves ... PM me. If anyone has any ideas for this...PM Me! If ya wanna buy me beers PM me.

I'm with Maha - all good questions - leadership eminating from every pore.
Having a knocking shop close at hand is a definite plus but of course only tent sites. Probably unsuitable then.
Just one question - how did you know where the knocking shop is?
Part time job.........????

I reckon it is about time that we made a choice, seems that we have a majority for March at this stage, but before we do make a choice, I wonder if it is worth us letting our KB friends that have not seen this know. If we really want this to happen we need to get it sorted sooner rather than later. I vote we PM any of our mates that have not made a comment on here to let them know it is in the planning stages and maybe make a decision as to when/then where by the end of June.

What am I saying??
Just that, since the AMP showgrounds camp is not a commercial campsite, it's occupancy can be independant of public holidays.
Maha seemed to get that interpretation immediately.
Anyway, it's all moot cos it only has tentsites and no cabins.
Finally, having tried to find accomodation somewhere around Carterton between Christmas and New Year, I agree with you. It is a busy place.
Especially the north end (according to Lissa)
