ride to your ability and dont pass cars on blind corners... simple.

If the dumbfuck wasnt trying so hard to catch up with his mate he wouldn't have wrecked that other dudes R1... also i think the person he hit was riding two up as well.

Not at all graphic compared to some of the clips I've seen, but it does give you a bit of a fright.
Seconding the don't pass on blind corners (or corners altogether). Sure hope the person/people he hit were ok but it didn't look good. :(

Agreed entirely............my point here is simple......Think...when on a bike Think all the time, this guy didnt and i guess let the moment get away on him trying to catch his mate....as an old bugger that likes nothing more than to ride quickly down tight twisty roads i put my survival down to good luck and constantly reminding myself to think about what i am doing and not get lost in the moment........

well I think it shows just how easy things can go wrong when you try to keep up with those more experienced than you

should be shown to all new riders ...

This is what pisses me off with riders boasting how quick they are over fav. bike roads, when in reality they cheat by cutting corners, either fooling themselves that it's fine and dandy or that they are a fast rider and that they will always get away with it.

That clip is exactly why I tell other riders that cut ever damn corner on our local roads to pull their heads in.. They always come back with..oh it's alright, I can swing back onto my side of the centreline if a truck or car appears around a bend coming at me.
Reality check.. what if it''s not a slow truck or a 1969 Morris Minor struggling towards them at snails pace. Odds are it will be a fast rider on a fast bike coming at you twice as quick as you had expected. Suddenly the corner cutters expected response time has vaporished in a blink of an eye. That clip shows too dramatically how quickly that R1 came into sight out of nowhere and collided.
I know I ride some of our fav. roads at a fast pace like those other arrogant wanker Wellington riders, but I expect other bikes coming towards me to respect the centreline. This is probably my greatest fear on local roads, being taken out by a car (SUV most likely) or a bike coming at me on my side of the road. I accept that less speed on my part will provide a greater response time, but that's why there is a white dotted line on the road to allow vehicles to safely pass each other in opposing directions.
I can clearly remember sometime ago meeting Deano around a blind sweeper. We were both fully cranked over and it was a buzz seeing him coming at me and within what seemed a split second .. woosh...we were passed each other. It was cool and it worked because we were both well within our side of the road
It was worth posting 98tls

It was worth posting 98tls Cheers MD......my warnings about it were mainly because of recent events but it really struck a chord with me and i will repeat as an old bugger i watch some of these young guys on the road ten foot tall and bullet proof but with the experiance of a wet flannel and well you know what i mean.......in saying that riders young/old/newbys or carl fogartys still need to think............

Good post, how many people will be honest enough to admit they have done the same move and got away with it time and time again. You never think you'll take anyone else with you. Makes you think.

Thats fantastic, especially taking a camera with him to teach us all such an important lesson. My hat is off to the stunt riders and the cage extras were very convincing. Not much ketchup though so I got a bit bored near the end. Overall, a popcorn rating of 6/10

Before someone gets picky. I'm spoating off at riders who intentionally cut corners on a regular basis.
We all, and yes I mean me, go into a bend too hot sometimes, or spot a patch of loose stones/oil half way around a bend, and decide it's best to run wide around it. But these are the exceptions for a good rider, not the rule.
That rider above was over the centre on most corners and after the near miss with the first head-on bike he then went further into the opposing lane. That near miss should have alerted him to get the hell back across the centreline.

that vid def. shows that he was struggling with control on nearly all the corners - coming pretty close to oncoming vehicles well prior to the crash. there's something pretty scary about watching the guy ahead too - who also leaves little or no margin for error. that vid is a sombre reminder about speed. sometimes the "chase your mate" thing is just really dangerous... man i don't wanna see that happen ever ...

I'm not fast. I can't ride fast. I used to try and ride at the same speed as other riders. I don't now coz I can't. And I dont want to hurt myself or whoever else is out there

I want to learn to ride. I hope to have someone teach me. But I'll always ride within my road limits on the road. If I get on the track... different story I suspect.

Me too.
However, I have come to think that the real skill is in knowing just what your limits are.

Did u see how he straightned up when he saw the oncomming bike? This vid was done intentionally as someone pointed out but I can see a nubie hit his brakes when confronted with that situation and stand the bike up... actually ll correct myself even experienced riders might freeze up... a very very good post indeed. We all need to be reminded every now and again that we are afterall only human and must make leeway for our mistakes. ALWAYS KEEP UR LINE IF U CANT, SLOW DOWN - IF U DONT WANT TO- STOP AND THINK ABOUT THIS VIDEO.

(though a little fun is ok, thats y we ride bikes afterall). the above footage did not look like fun. I didnt read the post at first just jumpped on to the vid n I was like wtf is tht retard doin. anyways...

Ride Safe and Responsibly.

damn i HATE that corner, now i know why...

Always much prefer the gov bay side of dyers pass road esp after travelling it every day for a couple of years, not so many cars on that side. They all go to say "wow" at the view then along the top and down again.
As for the vid... scary shit, but why did he go further to the left? I found that odd, esp for a right hand driver/rider
