Hi All,

I've been cleared for my re-introduction to the DR starting at the end of June and have a day leave pass. I'm up for some shorter/little rides till I see how the neck goes.

Meet up under the Wiamak main road bridge at 10am then to Oxford for coffee and cake via the gorge bridge and back down the Eyre or Waimak depending on time etc. Gravel roads or tracks along the Waimak so any dirt worthy bike welcome.

Got to get the shiny new duds dirty somehow :D

Cheers R

edited - Forgot the date being the 1 July.

We shall see, fingers crossed. Might be a DR650 for sale otherwise :bye: (though there will be sufficient testing first).

Bugger I hope it all goes well for you.

I take it from this that you are not going to join us. Does that mean the puppies still need lots of attention of the 640 is still in pieces. Maybe we should have a session at yours to put it back together. You supply the beer and tools LOL :D

Will make a call on the weather on the Saturday arvo/night and post here.

Catch you round,
Cheers R

No mate I did not say I would not be there?
I just meant I hope it all goes well on the health front.

But I have been very busy lately and have not looked at the bike.
I could ride it just by putting the tank and seat on, slapping rego and a WOF.
But I have given it a real good clean, the frame and every thing ready to give it's yearly work over.
So do not want to get it all dirty to have to give a real good clean again.

Like I have said I just have been to busy with other things at the moment.
And will try and make it.

And soon we will have to do a few dog shows   :drinknsin , so that is more weekends taken up.

So I have today to do a few thing around the house a road ride tomorrow.
And next weekend SDU is working so I should work on the bike then.
If I can leave the two Wolffes out side, as leaving them in side would be a disaster in the making.:shit:

I am up for it, will the mighty XF650 be ok shod in Trailwings? Was thinking about chucking an E07 on for winter so have time to get it sorted before then.

The XF will be fine on those tyres as long as you dont expect to travel at enduro bike speeds. There is lots of gravel with the odd dirty puddle or two. If it all gets a bit much you can always head to and along the gravel roads running parallel about 100m away from the tracks. Mr Sensible did a similar ride on his 1150gs with similar or more roady tyres to trailwings. The E07 wont be much if any advantage over the trailwings on gravel or slippery surfaces that we will be travelling on.

What a bugger - having to go fishing instead of biking. Hard life for you is it? :D

Just spent the afternoon chainsawing and splitting a trailer load of macrocarpa slab wood and the neck is fine. :Punk:

Phew, will be able to christen the Freewind in peace without it being recorded for eternity. See if I can get some battle scars to match XF650s ones from last weekend.

Looking forward to next weekend.Me too, it's been a while since I've been out in the dirt. I got the bike geared backed down yesterday and gave it the once over, so I'm all set. I just hope the snow stays away, I still remember playing the in the bloody horrible stuff on the South side last year.

Looks like there is potential for a little bit of rain on Sunday but there should be a break over the middle of the day. At this stage I'm still keen but will update again on Saturday sometime. Let me know if you are not keen.

So far the attendees are (correct me if I'm wrong)

My DR650, not to be confused with Js DR650 (I got a yellow one, natural IMS tank, black handguards, J has a yellow bike, yellow IMS tank, yellow handguards. She insisted on a little more colour matching than me). J is going to a birthday thing instead.

Do all the out of towners know how to get under the bridge?
Just in case... it's off the Main North Road (Not to be confused with the Northern motorway), when heading North out of Chch go over the Old Waimak Bridge and hook left at the end, follow your nose over the hump and you should see the underneeth of the motorway bridge ahead of you.

We took our pup's for their first walk at the river today.
I hope you like mud and water because there is ton's of it.

I told F/Q today I would try and work on my bike today (because it was wet) so I could go for a ride tomorrow.

Well I got side tracked in to trying to find parts for a mates bike.
The long and short of it is, no parts and no work on the bike or house.
Apart from chopping up some fire wood.

Have a good ride, have fun and Ryan look after your self mate.

Awesome... they usually are.
Today was even better, i can say that as even though i had a close look at the ground on several occasions on the return trip via the Eyre riverbed, I did not actually ever come off.
By some lucky more than skillful twists of the throttle as the nose was diving or washing out, the DR jumped back to the upright position saving me every time.

I had a great day though, and it was good to meet some new faces. Cheers guys.

I didn't take many photos, too busy riding ...

Was great to finally get back on the bike again. Had heaps of fun blatting down the Eyre river in the loose gravel (along with all the other bits). I also had a few moments but the handle bars never touch the ground :D

Hope the little blue bike rider made it home safe and isnt too sore?

The little blue (and scratched) bike was last seen on the back of a trailer heading towards Ashburton. I think the rider may be slightly sore tomorrow....

....How was your neck by the end of it all R???? ....

Was waiting till this morning before commenting on the neck. I'm pretty good, not sore but can feel that I've used it. The blat down the Eyre was pretty full on so if anything was going to upset it, that would have.

All in all I think I can say that the neck has passed the first test and things are looking good. :Punk:

I think I strained somethin'....

I didn't have too many 'looks at the ground', but I felt it with my elbows a few times, and had a very close look at/taste of the crashpad on my bars while trying to emulate the Pink Panther's Evil Kinevil trick of leaping tall riverbanks in a single bound. Final tally for the day - 2x falling over while stopped, 1x proper off, 1x near ingestion of own handlebars as above. I'm a little bit sore today...

Great day guys, can't wait for the next one.

Thanks cooneyr & the team for a great day. The gravel parts were superb plus you guys sure can hussle your adventure bikes through the rough. Timg on the Transalp & nigelp on the Freewind did bloody well in the gnarley bits too.
I'm a novice in that off road stuff & obviously have got a lot to learn yet. My "off" still hurts but at least the codine is working & the wee blue DT has cleaned up well (considering).
Thanks again & when's the next adventure run?
