Michelin recalls some 68,000 motorbike tyres
Fri Jun 15, 2007 11:04am ET26

PARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - French tyre group Michelin (MICP.PA: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Friday it was recalling some 68,000 motorbike tyres after finding a possible defect in their tread due to a manufacturing fault.

The company said it would recall the Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tyres. A Michelin spokeswoman said the recall would affect tyres sold in 40 countries in north America and Europe.

Michelin added no accidents had occured as a result of the fault.

They should recall the tyres they've been supplying the Moto GP guys with - they've let them down badly this year in some races, particularly the wet ones. It's pretty poor when you have races where nearly all the Michelin-shod bikes are disadvantaged, and no matter how well they ride, the tyres let them down.

Please note:

This recall only affects Pilot Power 2CTs marked with 'MADE IN FRANCE'.

It is believed that all Pilot Power 2CTs sold in New Zealand are marked 'MADE IN SPAIN'.

Thus, THE RECALL SHOULD NOT APPLY TO ANY OF THE 2CTs SOLD IN NEW ZEALAND.

It does! I have one & have seen 2 others in New Plymouth alone.

About a 2 week wait for replacement shipment.

May be the case, hence I 'should', not ' does not'. What I stated is just the word from Michelin.

If it is a French made tyre, then replacements will be given.

Yep, my tyre's effected as well. Got this reply from Danny at Botany Honda and Northern Accessories the distributors, after Cajun posted about it earlier.

Hi Leong,
Please check that your front tyre has the following markings, and if so, please contact Northerns on 276 6453 to get a claim form. You can then arrange a time to come in and have a replacement front fitted.

Cheers
