So I thought I'd give this crashing lark a go :whistle: Yes another one!

Last tuesday (12th) at 10pm I was collecting my bike from my friend's place in western springs to take back to the shore. I hadn't ridden it for a week due to the starter clutch packing up.

As I sat at the traffic lights for the western springs onramp, my glasses started to fog up - as they do on cold nights. I turned right through the lights as my glasses slowly cleared from the moving air and eased it left at the onramp... as my glasses cleared completely I first checked the mirrors then looked ahead to find I hadn't turned left enough for the corner. So I threw it on its side - literally. Cornering on your front tyre and left foot does not work! I was going about 60km/h when it happened and ended up in the grass. It could have been much worse in this regard - if I had panicked and not attempted to take the corner at all, I would have wound up a dent in the armco.

Injuries sustained by me were a sprained right wrist, dislocated middle finger on the same hand, a couple of deep holes on the edge of my left foot and some pretty nasty gravel rash below my left knee and on my left arse cheek.
The gravel rash is due to my wearing cargo pants at the time of the accident. The irony here is that I left the house wearing my shift kevlar jeans, but I managed to spill oil all down the front of them when I picked up a spare NC30 motor on the way to get the bike.
My helmet was, bizarrely, completely untouched. My winter gloves lost their outer skin, and the Teknic jacket that I've adored for the last 6 years has now got a massive rip on the left forearm - it wore right through to the removable liner! :shit: I was wearing some run-of-the-mill Steelers boots which didn't stand up to the road much.

Injuries sustained by the NC30 were: bent clutch lever, slightly buckled front wheel, slightly bent triple clamps, small amount of metal worn off side casing, much more fibreglass worn off L/H fairing, bent gear lever, dented collector box and a muffler that'll need re-skinning. The mirror didn't even break!
Fortunately I have spares for everything bar the clutch lever and front wheel, including race headers :D Oh, and I'm now even more convinced I need more rear ride height :innocent:

She'll be back on the road by the end of the month, dunno when I'll be back riding. Biggest issue is that I foolishly promised my girl I'd let her ride it once I'd had my first crash!

Fairly detailed report MF... all the things on you and the bike that made contact with the road will mend quick enough. Did you have your visor up?...i find the fogged look clears real quick when it is...and now your G/F gets to ride it....:shit:

Yeah, my visor was up, but I'd just put my glasses & helmet on about 2mins before... my breath seems to make them fog up easier when they're cold.

Luckily my mate was driving the 2nd car behind me, as we were dropping the NC30 back to my house and he was then taking me back to my mate's to get my car. Which ended up staying there for a couple of days... meh. So he took me to the horsepiddle, mates with the van were there in 15mins

Seeing as the bike's now almost complete after 4 months, must be about time for an update for those innarested...

- The "slightly buckled front wheel" turned out to be a slightly buckled rear wheel and a rather more damaged front wheel. Got them both straightened by Brugar engineering in Barry's Point Rd and powdercoated white again. $340 and $160 respectively.

- Straightened the triple clamps for a cost of $50.

- Repaired the glass fairings for a cost of $160.

- Repainted the fairings as well as various odds 'n sods (e.g. top triple clamp, chain guard, fork lowers, fairing inners) in the same sparkly black for $700.

- Recovered both seats and got more padding added to the rider's seat - $120.

- Replaced the blade / screen and the top bracket with Tyga items, $220.

- New grips, $20.

- Reskinned the Remus can and had it modified to fit the stainless exhaust system at Custom Chambers, $160.

- Pulled the clutch out and found the plates were fine but the basket had edges resembling a bread knife. Replaced it with a refurbished one and added an extra diaphragm spring that I had in a spare motor that was lying around, along with the oil pump drive. Cost - nil.

- Fitted the carbs with (supposedly HRC) race pistons & rubbers, raised the needles by 0.5mm, fitted 122(f) and 124(r) main jets. Yet to have the mixtures set up & balanced. Cost - $140.

- Fitted a full stainless system off a race bike, modified by Al's mufflers to repair some damage to the port ends ($290). Not particularly happy with this; I can handle the fact that the system fouls the rad fan & sidestand, but not the fact that it hangs down lower & further left by the LH footpeg, nor the massive leaks that are coming from the engine end of the front pipes! :angry2: Off to see my highly skilled mate Darryl tomorrow morning as I can't be fucked waiting for a week before Al's muffler will even look at it to fix their own fuck-up. Hopefully she'll be done in time to head to the Cheesecutter protest ride.

All up, a cost of $2400 :eek5: so just slightly over time & budget. But fuckit, I love this bike. Also bought all new riding gear - Shoei XR1000 helmet, Teknic Stinger jacket, Nazran gloves, Stylmartin boots and some random pants at a total cost of $1070.
