Do you have an idea of times yet? I would like to meet up but have commited to the Solstice Ride, I think I'm tour guide. We are looking at leaving Carterton at 1240 for Eke via Alfredton. This would probably take around an hour tops so could meet up at Eke. Then we are heading back down SH2. There might be a few on that ride interested in some tips?
cowboyz
21st June 2007, 21:55
ok. first up I will try not to sound too offensive but as a mentor ride i cant do anyone justice by watching everyone. I am coming down for Ronins benefit and if I happen to be asked to watch someone else ride it will be on the provision that Ronin (being the one who invited me in the first place) is happy with what he is doing. In saying that I am still working on times. We might even make carterton at 1240 at this stage. Still have a couple of things to work through.

bugger, just read new meet time haven't had brekkie yet! are you going over pahiatua track?
cowboyz
24th June 2007, 18:35
Yep. went over the track and out towards the main road. Found some dodgey guy on a GSR600 going the wrong way.
Actually, Dogsnbikes showed up at my place at 1030 this morning so we headed down to the mobil and met up with 86gsxr, sarahtvet (pillion), Yod + wife (pillion).
Meanie showed up in his CAR for a chat. Headed away about 11am to find the track was dry and grippy. Nice. Set some pace over the hill. Award goes to the honda for nothing falling off it on the track and the smiles coming from sarahtvet were evident that her ride over the hill was not a leisurely pace.
Calmed down a bit out on the main road to find blacksheep going the other way. He turned round and joined the forces.
Met Ronin in Masterton and stopped for smoko and then carried on down to carterton to meet up with the solicltice ride. Quite a few bikes around so talked to a few people, ate a doughnut and when we got back to the bikes found someone had put lollipops on the bikes. Nice touch.
being as I was surposed to be there to watch Ronins riding I followed him out to alfredton and dont think he needs much in the way of mentoring. Held a fairly good pace with a good eye on the road surface. All is good.
Made it back to e-tuna and said goodbye to wellington and co and headed back the way we came.
All was going great till we decided to come back through Balance and the balance striaght had a nasty crest in the road. I hit it at pace and the front flicked up on me quite rapidly. Usually this doesnt bother me that much but it happened to catch me by surprise and I landed crooked into a tank slapper. Not good. Got it under control but managed to twist my wrist the wrong way. Hurt lots. Stopped and had a moan and then carried on over the saddle road to regain a bit of confidence.
All in all, good day out..........

the missus is officially addicted and has told me in no uncertain terms I MUST get a new bike...what a bummer:rockon:
The lil viffer was gagging for a few (a lot!) more horses trying (and failing dismally) to keep up with the kwaka and the trumpies up the track 2 up....was thankful i had a pillion in some of those crosswinds on the main road (thanks babe)
once mrs yod had got used to the bike I "released the beast" up the saddle road....we were fair honking through the upward twisties but again, desperate for a few extra horses, (and a more substantial suspension system at the rear!:shit:)
nice to meet a few new faces too

Finally got em downloaded Alan, check out the Solstice ride report!
Ah yes, the flesh wounds lol. The Trumpy has a beautiful undercarriage alright, and I seem to be 'blinging' it rapidly! That drop off the one way bridge took the suspension by surprise two up goddamn it. Still, it's British Steel isn't it, so no harm done:yes:
looks like fun. Shame you missed us. We spent some time in carterton so i would say we were there when you went through but we parked around the corner so werent on the main road. Try again next time.
when he says "flexible" he really means "dont believe anything you read/hear/see. we just make it up as we go along.
He hasnt got time to post photos. He is still cleaning his bike.
I can also think of words like 'dynamic' and 'rapidly changing', a bit like the rides really - works for me:yes:
