I was at work on the north shore last night when 30,000 homes lost power....
It was then that the managers got a angry phone call from me about having no civil defense kit! no batteries, torches... nothing. I had to give out medication to over 20 clients using the light from my lighter!!!!

Try - mental health facility. No cameras operating, no central fire system, integrated computer system went offline.... was not pretty...

oh dear!!... if anyone has been unfortunate enough to have a friend'/family member pass away today... get in touch with your power retailer or lines company to discuss 10K towards funeral expenses... grab some tubes from the fish tank and sellotape to gas bottle or similar= 'look its a life support machine' :dodge:

I've been listening as close as possible to the guys at work while they are trying to figure out exactly what happened. They replicated the fault today but obviously all was fine, otherwise you would all be hearing about it!
We lost 12 substations based under the Wairau Point of Supply which is phenomenal, the next closest event was 10 years ago and that was 10.
There were a lot of tired and stressed guys at work so i just STFU and did my work quietly:innocent:

Haha, damn I hate that guy.
Apparently he's like that in everyday life too...needs to be locked up.

Hey, our power was off from 6.30am this morning until 8.30am and guess what? We didn't die! Oh, but then we aren't obese Islanders with "your-faultitis" disease.
We had no cold water (no pump - we're on tank water) but managed to have short hot showers, and then my very own handy Andy used the gas stove to heat water for a cuppa - of course the power came on as soon as he'd made it!
It was an incredible storm overnight - thunder, lightning, rain, wind - thought the roof was going to come off, it was so strong.
