I've picked up a zxr 250 as a bit of a project and after I hooked up the carbs it started first try but then began to flood, stall and withen a couple of minutes all the cylinders were filled with fuel right to the carbs hydraulic locking it. Now what confuses me is that if the fuel vacuum valve on the tank was not operating and free flowing the fuel, the carb floats should stop this happening. If the carb floats were at fault it is unlikely that it would be all 4 of them and that the fuel vacuum valve on the tank was faulty too (provinding fuel after the motor stopped running). The only other thing I can think of is that I perhaps hooked some of the vacuum hoses (there a lot of them) to the wrong areas but I was working off a (pretty poor) diagram in a workshop manual. Right now I'm just cleaning out the carbs and the fuel valve on the tank hopefully that will sort out the problem. Any advice

Aren't they set up the same as the ZZR? Fuel tap has 3 settings - ON - PRI - RES

On & reserve rely on vacuum, but the prime setting allows fuel to be gravity fed.
I've got the pdf's for the ZZR250 - if they're of any use to you I can put them up on a server
