Erm, I wasn't really sure where to put this, but I thought some of you might be interested to see what has been done to my Ducati Monster M750 BEARS/F3 race bike.
The principle problem with it was ground clearance. Despite fitting new springs front and rear to reduce sag, it still had poor ground clearance. Having things drag on the ground was playing with my mind, so I bit the bullet and paid to have new rear sets and a new exhaust system custom made. I picked it up on Friday, and will race it tomorrow.
What do you think? The rear sets (which aren't actually that rear set- about 1" up and 1" back) are made from machine grade aluminium (tougher than mild steel apparently). The exhaust headers are original but HPC coated, the new section is HPC coated ordinary steel exhaust tubing, and the can is oval carbon fibre. Everything has been custom made by a very clever bloke who's identity shall remain a closely guarded secret;-)
It sounds pretty good- deep for a 750 and not too loud. I'm stoked with it!

Shit hot man. I'd be keen to hear how you get on in F3. I'd like to run something like that myself but decided to go for cheap and cheerful (if any racebike can be described as such).

I've got one of those! (The MotoEquip sticker I mean).
Looks good! Is that a sharp kink under the bike?

Yeah, damn nice stickers they are too! Now who made those again?
That photo shows the kink from the worst angle. It seems to flow really well, at a fast idle the exhaust gasses come out with enough force to shake my hand, and they hit with an audible "THWAK"

Nice looking bike :niceone:
What year is it? Do you find the lack of a fairing slows you down much?

Finished
Well, we should have done something when we were worried about the pipe cooking my boot... cause it did, BIG TIME. A heat sheild is required methinks  A new boot wouldn't go amiss either, fortunately I've got one of those... well two actually.

Yeah I'm not sure how I'm gonna get all the red and black melted crap off the pipe! There were a couple of times when I had to check to make sure my boot wasn't actually on fire...

Yup, a damn fine looking specimen of the monstorus ducatus species. That fat end can looks much better than I'd imagine it would on a monster.

Yeah I need to do something incase I drop it, I've been told that a hard crash can destroy the engine cases- no fairings to protect them. The bike came complete with battle scars and a dented tank, I haven't managed to add any more yet.

one thing i read bout the monster is...... that you can fry the eletrics if the battary is on a low charge.

Really? It wouldn't surprise me, with Italian electrics being the way they are. I'll have to keep an eye on the battery- since the bike is only used about once a month, it isn't exactly in good nick. Thanks!

oxford make a fing that i cant remember the name that is to help your help your battery last longer but it also stops your battary over charging or undercharging
. I read in the english bike mag "bike" that they are a realy good investment for a monster

Cool bananas
Speaking of "cool bananas" - you should find some way to incorporate those leedle monkeys that are lying on the concrete by the bike. I'm sure they'd make it more fasterer.
Oh yeah - it's not right that you can have such a kewl bike just for playing on the racetrack on, while the rest of us have to make do with much crappier machines and use them for everyday transport. :Pokey:

You wernt racing at Nelson street race this year were you?
I remember a Monster in F2. I was on a red cbr600rr.
New bits look good. wasnt Andy from AB's in Nelson who did them was it? Hes the man as far as Ducatis go.

However, this bike hasn't cost me anything like what you are probably thinking, and even though it was cheap, I have had to give up road riding all together so that I could buy this thing. Therefore I am suffering greatly and you should be feeling sorry for me:yes:

I'll have it in F3 and BEARS at Greymouth, and maybe Nelson and the Burt Munroe festival... provided money starts growing on trees...
No AB's didn't do them, though I thought about it as they had some seriously quick SS's at the Sound Of Thunder this year. It was done by a bloke here in Chch called Shaun who used to do a lot of work for BEARS guys. He's got mills and lathes etc in his garage, so it was all done there. He even makes the oval carbon fibre for the exhaust can. A very clever man he is:yes:

Tony, your new set up looks great mate. Looks shit hot. hope tyou get your heel plate fitted soon. Boots are too expensive to melt one at every meet :)
TonyB
8th July 2007, 15:19
Yeah I'll buy it this week.
All this has made me think about my riding technique though. I typically ride through corners with both feet up on the balls of the feet, which is why the right ankle of my boot got burnt. I had to re-think the way I was doing it and reposition the foot so the peg was in a more normal position, just in front of the heel. Thinking about it now, it seems to make more sense to do it this way anyway- how else are you supposed to use the back brake mid corner? Or change gears while leant over? Hmmmm, time to study some pics me thinks
