GONE!!!

Don't tell the Kendogs but ... I want to have a go at making a sports-bike go quick so its time to sell the Hornet. This beast has given me some fantastic memories with no bother at all. It was my first big bike, I commuted on it, did weekend trips to Auckland, an East Cape trip, and friggin awesome trip around the SI. If it weren't for the desire to give SBs a go I'd keep it.

This bike has not been dropped. On my first ride I 'lowered' it gently to the ground when I was maneuvering it at 0kms/h. Very embarrassing but there was nothing more than a little scratch on the clutch cover.
Oggy-knobs.
Bike has never been raced. Its done 3 trackdays, but anyone will tell you that I'm a friggin nana on the track.
This bike has never been 'Maired'.
This bike has never been intentionally wheelied. The front wheel has only left the ground twice...both times were a complete surprise to me.
I bought it new in Feb 2006.
The headlights are Buell XB12S items with a carbon fibre screen. I have the original headlight unit still...I can convert it back if you want...but I reckon this look makes the bike.
Clear Alternatives clear plastic tail-light lens and LED brake-lights.
Rear tyre (Conti Road Attack) has about 5000kms on it, prob another 4000kms to go.
Front tyre (Conti Sport Attack) has about 7000kms on it, not a lot more left. Maybe 1000-2000kms. Depends on how hard you're pushing the front end.
Baffles have been removed and the bike sounds mean :devil2:, has also been described as sounding 'feral'. Sounds great from idle and upwards.
Stock handlebar (bleh) has been replaced with a gloss black Pazzaz bar which gives the bike a more forward/lower position. Makes the bike feel sportier, takes the weight off your arse without putting weight on your wrists. Also allows you to drag your weight further over the front wheel for more focussed riding ;)
The chrome Mickey-Mouse mirrors have been replaced with Hyosung ones. Due to the shape of the bars the mirrors are mounted on the bend so tend to stick up a bit...not an issue really. Bar-bend affects the levers a little too but I have never bothered replacing the bar and just dealt with it.
Paint is great. Tank has minor scratches, and the odd stone chip on the front. Bit of polish and it looks luverly ;) ...tail unit has scuff-plastic stuff on it, but I'll take it off as its ugly.
Home made heated grips. Thermo-nuclear strength...can remove for buyer or upgraded with temp controller for no fee. I'm good like that!
Will have new warrant for purchaser.

Questions? PM me if interested. I'm pretty firm on this price as its what I need for my next ride.

So....want to own a sensible and very easy bike to ride that doesn't look sensible?

NOTE: stand not included. Buell indicators will be replaced with original Honda ones to get warrant (as Buell ones flash too fast). I will include 4x Buell indicators if so desired. They are much smaller, but not stupid small like some I've seen.

According to totalmotorcycle.com (http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2006models/2006models-Honda-919-Hornet-CB900F.htm) "Maintenance-free automatic cam-chain tensioner."

With all honesty I've never had a scary moment because of the bike's power. Very linear power delivery. Peak power is 105HP, less than some inline 600s.

I went from riding a Hyosung 250 V-Twin.

Gonna be off KB for a bit...if anyone has any questions or wants to buy this gem then give me a PM or txt on OhTwoOne-2554245. Please make sure I know who you are via txt

If it doesn't sell when I get back I'll stick it on TM (bleh!) and subject myself to ridiculous questions :weird:

What you need is an SV650 owner that wants to trade up to a real bike then you could go out on the track and give Andreas the learn.

Forgot your after a Superbike right?

If you still have it in 10 months I'll buy it!!! I have the smallest hornet of the clan and love the styling of the Buell lights on the hornet range. Good luck with the sale...........or maybe not!

I have just seen the larger versions of your photos. You need to sand your headers to make them shine again. Wet and dry 800 grit then some mothers mag and aluminum polish.

Looks great in person and in photos, will surely sell your bike then.

Say wha..?!?! 100 grit? Good idea - if you want to put scratches in them that'll never come out! Try 1200 or finer, or steel wool.

Doh, just went down stairs to check what I used to use. Either 600 or 800.

I have edited my first post.

Is the 919 good for commuting? (Say 30km on the highway and 30km in the city per day)

Any good for over 6'4" riders?

Any rust?

Allow a semi impartial 3rd party to answer your questions:
It'd be extremely good. You sit upright so you can see stuff easy. It's easier to turn your body the more upright you sit. The engine has power enough power to save you rowing the gearbox.

I'm not 6'4", but I'd guess it would be pretty good. There is plenty of scope for fiddling with handle bars on a hornet.

I've never seen any. It's not an old bike and I know it gets kept inside most of the time it's not in use. And it's a Honda.

merv
1st September 2007, 12:56
Yeah would certainly be better for commuting than a foetal tuck rocket.

bungbung
1st September 2007, 17:45
I'm 6'4" and fit on a hornet just fine. You've got some fiddling room with different bars if you don't like the layout.

It'd be a great commuter.

And of course the most important thing; it looks good too

skelstar, where did you get those Buell lights from? Are they from a wreck or new items?

skelstar, where did you get those Buell lights from?
Umm...from a Buell Dealer? But to be honest the CF screen was off eBay.

Bike was an awesome commuter in its first 6 months. I'm 5'8 but if you want to come try it on for size give me a yell. I'm on Haywoods Hill dude.

I've ridden one on a couple of occasions and found it fine size wise (I'm 6'5") - great commuter too...

Be hard to think of a more fun commuter. There may be smaller more economical bikes but...

It's comfortable, it's small for a 900 and is eminently flickable. It'll pull from pretty much anywhere in the rev range.

One of the American mags said they could always tell who rode the Hornet to work, he was the guy with the big smile.

I know how he felt. Been there done that

How about two up?

Will it be okay for a tour down the south island with my partner on the back? (Say once a year or so?)

Thanks.

To be honest I was appalled at another Wellington biker who bought a brand new hornet when he could have assisted you by buying yours and saved himself some dosh.

But then I never buy new vehicles. New vehicles ALWAYS have loadsa shit go wrong in the first few months of ownership. Best to buy them once the quality control gaffes have been sorted - quality used is best!

Will it be okay for a tour down the south island with my partner on the back? (Say once a year or so?)I let Mr Kendog ride my GSXR for a day while I rode his CB900 Hornet. Girlfriend said the Hornet was way better to be on the back of. It would be a good 2 up South Island bike.

Fair enough to him, I've learned that you don't have to buy a new bike to get a good one.

Probably not a fair comment because everyone to his own. Personally I never buy anything but new and have never had "loadsa shit" to the extent that I trust Jappa's so much I don't even worry about the warranties and never take them back to the shop for servicing so null and void my warranties pretty well from the start.

Hey Ducatis may be different maybe you need the shit sorting.

Really my issue is not trusting the shop mechanics to service them right in the first place so I keep my bikes out of the shop. So again that's just me and the person you are referring to will have reasons for making the choice that was made too.

Nothing wrong with buying new....
Nothing wrong with buying second-hand...

Me? I have never owned a brand new bike...
"loadsa shit" - I have had plenty!!!

Problem with second hand market is that it's not a beginner friendly market. There are a few bargains out there, but mostly you pay for what you get.

Best and safest "bargains" are bikes that are about 2-5 years old with 10'000-30'000Km on the clock. They are practically brand new and goes for $2-$5k less than new = "BARGAIN"

That is my point really it is a personal choice thing. So its no point criticizing someone who buys new - that's their choice and I happen to be one of those.

So where are all the people that like buying secondhand that really need this bike?

How about two up?

I've mentioned this on KB before so those who saw it then please forgive me.

To answer this question, my erstwhile pillion who tried most of the Honda range: CBR1000RR, VTR, Blackbird, VFR, CB1300, and Goldwing said,
"When I got on the Hornet I felt like I was coming home."

Surprisingly it has more leg room for a pillion than most of the above including the CB1300. Unlike the VFR, the VTR, or the Blackbird it doesn't require a pillion to adopt an unaccustomed forward lean.

The Goldwing was a bit too much like a car for her,and pillion comfort does not feature high on the CBR design priorities.

Bums get numb eventually but maybe that even happens on a Goldwing but I don't know about that...

You don't void most warrenties by doing the work yourself I am sure. Though you might have to prove you are competent when something does go wrong, and keep reciepts for oil filters etc as evidence the work was done....

Mate, has it got a full service history? What condition are the chain and sprockets in? Is that some kind of flame sticker on the tank or a reflection?

Bytor

oh yeah and brake pads/disc conditions

skelstar
30th September 2007, 17:18
Yeah, it is a flame sticker LOL ...but it comes off :)

Should have receipts for service work for first 20k but did my own stuff for the remaining. Still on first set of pads, prolly need done real soon. Warrant only requires front tyre replaced which will be done shortly. If you want it now you can choose tyre, if not then ya someone is getting a Hornet with a Conti Road Attack on the front.

Cheers
