I am just so sick of my bike being a target for deliberate vandalism! I am gutted and instead of feeling an overwhelming sense of rage (like I did last time, Feb this year) I just feel really upset and sad.

My partner & I went out to take our dog for a walk today in the brilliant Wellington sunshine and I noticed glass by the front wheel of my bike, I knew straight away that the headlight had been smashed...this is because it's been done before (on a separate occasion to the Feb this year incident). My bike has a cover on it, when I took off the cover I discovered that my LH front indicator is cracked, the speedo glass is smashed and the petrol tank has been badly dented by the LH indicator.

I actually realise (looking back) that the damage caused in Feb this year could have possibly been caused by my bike slipping off the side stand but, since then I've always put it on the middle stand so I know for certain there is no way she could fall over.

I'm sad and upset because I'm a hard working individual. I paid $1000 for my little bike back in 2003 and even though she's old and not so fast I get a lot of pleasure riding her. I haven't been riding a lot this year because my focus has been finishing my studies, I also have been a little broke recently so haven't ridden her at all as she isn't registered. I have nowhere else to park her other than on the footpath outside my flat.

I just feel really sad and dissapointed. :(

Sad to hear about this CSL, do you have a friend nearby who can provide a safer parking place?
Or you could get Colapop to sit outside for a while and threaten to hug anyone who goes near it. lol.

....even though she's old and not so fast I get a lot of pleasure riding her. :(

That line just begs abuse. Many on here could say that about their partner..not me, she's far to close to the PC and the knife rack.

So in your sadness let there be joy... and smut.

Seriously CSL, that's a real bummer that pricks think they have the right to ruin your property for their 5 seconds of entertainment.
You are too nice...I would want revenge, and it must involve torture.

Can you find a safer place to tuck it out of sight maybe?

Cathy I am so sorry to hear this - your bike (and yourself by association), have definitely been through the wars eh?

I am a bit far away from you but I could keep her in my garage for a while until you find somewhere closer?

In the meantime - :apint:  :grouphug:

If you don't mind leaving it next to a Suzuki there's room in my garage. 'Cos I'm in U/Hutt it would be more suited to long term storage but if thats any use, you're more than welcome.

Bummed for you mate. I often see bikes parked out on the street in Welly, especially Newtown. Have often wondered how they get on. Now I know. Good luck with finding some local gargaring.

Not again! Sorry to hear it Cathy - maybe you guys should get a place with some off street parking.
Oh, and there is space in my garage if you want to store BB for a while.

Thanks everyone for your sympathy & offers of places for BB to cuddle up...maybe I will do a leaflet drop around my neighbourhood and see if there's anyone close by that can oblige.

In an ideal world I would move and find a flat with a garage but this aint the ideal world and finding a flat like that within my current price range (plus that is okay with a dog) proved quite a challenge last time we moved.

I still feel sad. :(

Poor you.

Find a flat - two weeks.

Find a flat that will take a dog - six weeks or more . . .

I always flatted with a pooch in tow when I was younger, but it took a LOT of looking. Had great success putting a wanted to rent ad in the paper though.

Letter drop sounds like a great idea - good that you're being so proactive.:Punk:

<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>Hey CSL,

That's really shit. I'd be in a rage too if somebody deliberately damaged Natalie, but thinking about it I always park in relatively public places, even late at night in the city. Sorry to hear about this.

So what's broken? Indicator lens, speedo glass, tank is dented? I have one more indicator lens (I think); I do have an entire speedo unit, but the mountings are snapped at the bottom. If it's possible to replace the glass in the speedo on its own, I have some available. Tank should be possible to undent, I did have a tank in reasonable condition (no rust or dents), but it got sold with the rolling chassis so that's no good, and you would've had to repaint it anyway.

How did the tank get dented by the indicator? Did the indicator actually bend off or something? If so I've got a complete indicator unit you can have.

If you confirm that's what you need I'll send those down to you again.

Sorry to hear about the damage....but are you sure it was vandalised rather than fell over..?

Only reason I ask is that the girlfreinds CBR125 (in the UK) use dto be parked on a hill, and fell over and I was sure someone had done it. But then it did it again a few months on..when we could see it from inside the house, and I was surprised how little wind it took for a small bike with a cover to get blown over...
Turns out someone who lived up the road picked it up after the first fall, but didn't know which house it belonged to..so just put it back the best they could, and we thought someone had done it deliberatly....

I'm probably wrong though....this seems to be that kind of day..

The world is full of assholes eh. A couple of years ago I had to move house because some bastard kept vandalizing my bike outside my house (in Tokyo garages are only for rich people). His modus operandi was to slash the tires and fill all the keyholes with superglue. Each time this required a full lock set replacement, and I needed the bike shop to come with a crane-fitted truck to pick it up since with the steering locked I couldn't push it anywhere if I wanted to. One time I had a disc-lock on which also got superglued and had to be removed with a grinder. My girlfriend's tires got done when she was staying over one time too, I guess the guy didn't have his superglue that night.

Luckily I didn't really like living there for other reasons anyway so this problem just made me move sooner. Otherwise I would have been forced to set up my cunning webcam + remotely triggered mace dispensing gadget idea. Mmmmm... yeah, followed by a not-so-remote steel cap boot dispensing....

The sad end to that bike's story is that with all the glue stains on it, I couldn't even give it away...

Sorry to hear about the damage....but are you sure it was vandalised rather than fell over..?

Yup I'm sure, it was on the centre stand this time. When it was damaged back in Feb I got really angry and someone (can't recall who) pm'd me suggesting she may have slipped off the side stand...in actual fact she possibly did that time.

But this is the 3rd time she has been deliberately vandalised that I know for certain and the 6th time she has been damaged by someone/something other than myself...so I'm getting a little disillusioned.

1. Had just re-painted the tank and someone stomped on her and jammed the tank onto a concrete pole, causing the top to be stoved in.
2. and 3. Knocked over by being backed into/over while parked on Boulcott St.
4. Headlight smashed out with a tree branch while parked up at old flat.
5. Knocked over/fell over outside current flat.
6. Pushed over outside current flat.

Your story is awful!! Yikes. To be honest all this is making me think about selling BB and waiting until I move somewhere with a garage then buying a newer bike :weep:

You couldn't get the old girl inside or closer to the house, around the back or do you live on those horrible slopes with hundreds of steps to get anywhere. (did a stint as a furniture remover assistant and had a few deliveries to Wellington. Try gfetting a furniture truck up some of those streets without doing damage to someones pride and joy)

Now that just isn't on  Sorry to hear about all the trials and tribulations your poor wee ride is going through, I guess it must be overcoming it's own previous bad karma as a machine of war?

Sounds like a lot of good, honest KBers are willing to ensure that no other rotters will be plying their dastardly ways upon it anymore!

I think the bike equivalent of that 007 exploding car is needed to ensure said perpetrators get defenestrated!

Real sorry to hear that CSL, there are some scum out there.

Don't give it up. Take up one of the safe storage offers on here, study hard during the term then get some more rego and go play during the holidays.

Is the rego on hold if your not riding her? If not you will still be liable for rego charges back to when it expired. You can put it on hold for minimum 3 months. You just need to go to post office (or any VTNZ outlet) and fill in a form. You will have to pay for the period from when it expired to now.

Well thank you to all of you who offered a safe hideout for Black Betty and BIG thanks to xerxesdaphat who has yet again sent me parts for her and expected nothing for them (something will be heading your way anyway).

I've ended up parking her around the corner at my Aunty's, it's not a garage but it's under cover. I've got the rego done, now I just need to headlight, so I'll go into my local lads and get that.

You guys are awesome and I tell ppl all the time about the generosity of the bikers I know. :grouphug:

I get so pissed off when I hear of bikes/cars being deliberately vandalised. Bad enough if they steal them but to damage them is pathetic.

My husband's commuter car is a 1984 Ford Laser and recently it's been broken into twice and also someone has scratched right along one side. Considering it is parallel parked, there is no way that was an accident. What annoys him the most is that it has all happened in broad daylight, parked in a a service lane near where he works. At least the last time someone saw a couple of guys hanging around it and rang the police. They had gone by the time the cops arrived but they got a good description and it sounds like they picked them up later for similar offences.

I'd certainly start looking for another flat, it doesn't cost anything to look and you may find something within your price range that also takes the dog and has a garage - all in time for when you have time to ride again!

It got smashed when the bike was knocked over. I have to get a whole new one, not that expensive tho.
