Team Pie Boy Racing (The Team Managers point of view)

Having to miss a round or two this season I thought I’d take the season off and make get some of the work done on the bikes, sidecar and other projects I’ve got lying around, with that in mind I decided I’d still like my bikes on the track and went looking for a rider who would do the equipment justice.

After multiple applicants and carefully perusing their CVs Bren_chch was selected for the ride, his contract was negotiated and the equipment handed over.

At round one he did rather well and ran in the top 5 while he familiarised him self with the bike, so coming into Round 2 on the short B track with the full backing of “Team Pie Boy racing” we were expecting good results

As well as supplying him with one of Yamahas finest (1981 RD350LC) we handed over the mighty Suzuki FXR150RR works bike

Practice Buckets

This goes off with out a problem but Bren_chch obviously having been to the Max Biaggi School of excuses comes in complaining of a flat spot on the FXR  and it’s immediately obvious that we may have made a mistake with his selection having missed his negative attitude and the impact it may have on the team

Practice Pre82

Diesel Pig doesn’t even make a lap before he breaks his bike (fuck he’s hard on gear) JJ58 and DC look like the men to beat, Bren_chch circulates ok and looks like he’s capable of running top 5 (providing everyone else blows up or breaks down)

Race 1 Buckets

Bren_chch is a bit late to the grid and gets a less than ideal position in a field of 30 buckets and as the flag drops he gets blocked in, he slowly picks a few off to get on the back of the second group behind Dangerous and Spudracer and chases them around for a bit, despite his obvious power to weight ratio advantage over Spudracer he seems unable to pass (if you want the answer to the question ”who ate all the pies” Spudracer is the man to ask) finally he pulls his head out of his arse and passes them both to finish in the top ten (don’t ask where I wasn’t paying attention) after having a little off track excursion on the final lap. (much like OAB earlier)

Race 1 Pre82

Bren_chch is wandering around the pits looking for pies and seems oblivious to the fact that Pre82 has been called up, but finally he works out he should be on the dummy grid and casually wanders over to fire up the bike:scooter:

Warm up lap and he’s a real eager beaver getting up on the front row along with Dangerous, Dangerous having realised he wasn’t man enough for the 750 Katana he previously raced has traded it on a RD350LC:bleh:

Off the line and the big four strokes mow them down, pushing hard on lap one to stay with the front group Bren_chch tips into the s bends and makes it as far as the left hander before he looses the front and falls on his arse, he pops up like a meerkat and after getting his breath back picks up the bike and pushes back to the pits where is the subject of laughter and ridicule (especially as it is all caught on video) Spudracer being the suck up that he is lets Stanko take the flag just in front of him so he doesn’t get kicked off his Team Stanko provided bike

With a rooted helmet Bren decides to call it a day (temporarily at least)

Race2 Buckets

By the time this rolls around Bren_chch has recovered somewhat from the bash on the head and Deviant Esquire lends him a helmet to continue, TonyB makes it about 100 metres onto the track before he retires due to mechanical incompetence:shifty:

DC is 4th off the line and 1st by the hairpin, JJ58 takes him at the end of the s bends, but after a couple of laps DC pulls the pin and buggers off, Bren_chch is a lowly 12th with both Spudracer and Stanko in front of him, he manages to get past them both and gets into the top 10 yet again

Race 2 Pre82

With Bren_chch having said he wasn’t going out after falling on his head, his contract is immediately renegotiated and the Bike handed over the Diesel Pig who sets about straightening the damage and quickly bashes it all straight

Diesel Pig takes it easy for a lap or two and eventually catches up to and engages in a 4 way battle with Dangerous, Stanko and Spudracer, swapping positions each lap until he gets the better of them (Dangerous wasn’t much of a challenge anyway)

Fuck knows where he finished as I wasn’t counting

With that race over the officials call the meeting closed due to problems with the low afternoon sun, and thus disappoint the legion of fans (that means the lovely Joni) that have made the difficult trip to Ruapuna B track to support “Team Pie Boy racing”

Well written Kickaha! Good shit

Must admit to searching the horizon for signs of pies myself, was bloody hungry during the day but nothing on offer apart from the dregs of a garlic bun (Thanks Mary Lou!).

Was a bloody beaut day I thought - aside for not running the all ins for buckets and Pre 82s... I was in prime position next to the hairpin ready to catch Bren's next bin on film...

Got some pretty decent footage I reckon (including The Great Bren Lowside due to sheer luck), should edit up nicely. OAB will most likely be doing the editing as I've never done it before... but I'm sure one of us will let you know when the film's ready and tomatoes can be lined up... :dodge:

As an aside, bloody good effort from OAB as well, the FXR and pilot held up well and a blast was had by all. Top stuff! I need to join the bucket ranks I reckon.

Beer and a BBQ'ed sausage (or 3 :innocent:) to cap it all off, cold fingers riding home again. Beaut day - bring on round 3.

Now being the race bred stallion that I am I havent been invited into this elite team of pie munchers... but Im going to post my day here all the same.

was that good or what? The weather couldn't have been better, mint mid winters day, On arrivel Stanko and OAB were already set up, now i notice that they have moved camp from last year and stolen the concrete weigh in scales pad from the usuals that park up there... ahhh well you snooze you loose, so we joined them.

Practice was kinda like learning B track all over again, the MT rep was starving of gas so it was back to the pits for a carb strip and new filter, which sorted the problem.

Practice in CAMs was a learning curve on the new 350LC as was the whole day, its nothing like racing the Kat, but by the end of the season I reckon Ill be doing faster times that the 750 Kat.
Back in the pits and a few minor adjustments like gear shift position I was as sorted as I would be for the day.

Race 1 F4, and i was starting to get back into the routine again but still off the pace I can usually do, with a couple of the KB boys cruising on past. result 9th out off 27

Race 1 CAMs, off the start line and the RD bogged down, it was running too rich on the main jets and by the time I remembered to back the tap back off so as it was running on the needle I lost a lot of time. Still the end result wasnt too bad and I knew Id only improve.

Race2 F4, back in flying form where them pesky wee KB critters didnt stand a chance, but on the last lap MadKeenAndy shot on past with a couple of other youngens on the FXR's result 8/27

Race2 CAMs What a bloody balls up that start was whellied off loosing ballance and droping a foot off the peg, too much on the mind I think 'dont use full throtle, dont whellie, dont stall' but I did all right by holding my position give or take a slot. Thats about all I can remember as always the day is now bit of a blur, but I do know I never had any fuel issues... bloody trailers.

And that was the end of the day, no all in as time was getting on and they thought the sun was getting too low and risky.

well once again chch pulls a superb winters day out, after a week of shit, cold and often wet weather, we have one of those brilliant clear sunny days with the added bonus of a mild nor' west wind to keep us happy. I cant believe they called the meet cos of sun, we normally WANT that stuff in the sky at this time of year!

Anyway, both practices were a bit blah to me... The bucket was good, getting used to once again a slightly diff seat position...slowly getting that sorted. Elsie was feeling a bit strange with borrowed different pipes (courtesy of Yowling racing manager) and footpegs, the pipes made it a bit quiet at times, and with the noise of the wind out of the hairpin (why I felt it just there I dont know) I was having some problems trying to figure what gear i was in, so maybe i should give earplugs a go, I dunno.
So from the other end of the feild, the slightly slower but just as competitive end, :Punk: heres the sagas...

Race 1 Buckets: average start, got blocked in AGAIN by a slow starter, but nevermind, onward and upward ;) Passed a few to suddenly end up behind Thunder and OAB, and my brain went...ahaaaaaa, time to race! Managed to sneak between the 2 of them at the start/finish, altho OAB snuck a look to see me coming and managed to tuck in front of me as I snuck in front of Tuono, so one down one to go. Last lap and I had to have a go, OAB went a bit wide on the hairpin so I managed to squeeze through in front, only to see Tygertung in front of me, but not enough time to try and make a move there, ah well, next time. The bike is feeling good, and the seat position is improved, I'm even starting to get my arse off it a bit. :)

Race 1 Pre82: Was still feeling not right on Elsie, and as usual bad start...still gotta work on those, so prob about last away (at least no-one passes me), with the Duc lady and Thunder in front of me. So decided to stick to Thunder as much as i could, figured he'd leave me on his 350 but somehow manged to get by him only to have the Duc lady there...she is really my arch nemesis cos i always seem to get passed her on the corners only to have her pass me on the straight on full track. But this time got past her on the hairpin again (I do LUV that corner on the small bikes!) and took off like a bat outa hell, knowing i had both her and Thunder on my tail just itching to get past.

Race 2 Buckets: Slightly better start but still about the same position, it was amazing having at least 30 starters each race (26 finished), always someone right on your arse or someone to try to chase down, buckets are just the way to go, I luved it! Found myself behind Thunder again, but wasn't till about halfway thru that I was able to get past this time, only to see Tygertung and OAB up ahead with a bike in between us, but no matter how hard I tried i just wasnt able to get past. So the 5 of us were nose to tail all the way to the start finish/line. With the shadows giving a good view of those behind to those in front, I could see Thunder trying a last attempt to get by me, and with my rev limiter cutting in and no time to change up I made a tactical decision to move over and block his passing manouvre... half a wheel in front...phew! :dodge: now that was close.

Race 2 Pre 82: Similar story to the first race, got a *slightly* better start so i think I was in front of Thunder this time, but all I could see was the duclady again. Managed to catch her up but not get past again....^%%^&&*&&%##!@@$$... she was def improving cos I wasn't able to get the hairpin manouvre to work right this time. We had a laugh about it after and she said I was really getting her out of her comfort zone, so THAT pleases me no end ;)

All in all a great day out there, weather could not have been better even on a summers day. The racing was close and challenging, and i look forward to next round on July 22nd...now time to head off and practice my starts. I wish, its pissing down out there now... damn lucky!

I need to find my install CD for my video camera in order to get the footage off the disk - I filmed it in VR mode (for editing on the camera), which means I need a proper dvd creator / film editing program to use the files. Unfortunately I have no idea where the box and install CD are at the moment despite having checked most of the flat I've not been able to find it. I'm going to ring Panasonic tomorrow about it since I'm not sure it even came with the CD. One way or another though it'll be posted on here, don't worry about that ;)

Oi Deviant, where is the damn video
Well... let me tell you. Firstly, it was recorded onto the camera and apparantly saved as a .VRO file. That might not mean much... but the short version is that without the right software it's useless. I have no idea where the install CD is for my camcorder... that made things more difficult.

Secondly, I've never done any video editing or clipping before, ever, so even if I got it off the camcorder, clipping out the piece we wanted to see and editing it up could be a challenge.

Thirdly, as anyone who edits videos knows, all this takes time. Time is one thing I've had very little spare of in these few days since the meet.

You're not convinced, are you...

It's my first ever effort at video editing, and totally unassisted I might add, so go easy on me! It's a bit unsteady since I'm so far away from the action at the time of filming. Okay okay, alright already, play the damn film... :blip:
