Was watching the opening ceremony yesterday. Apparently, the paraolympics will not be televised in the USA because none of the networks wanted to buy the rights. Why am I not supprised? :mad: Why do the Americans refuse to accept or acknowledge people who are less than perfect. I find it all quite hypocritical. what were those statistics again? something like 2/3 of the population are overweight and 1/3 are clinicaly obese. :spudwhat:

It's the food. They just eat a lot of it. The statistics about meat consumption are almost disturbing. And I say that from the point of view of an avid dead-cow, dead-sheep, dead-pig, dead-bird and dead-deer consumer.

Thats because the Yanks are a bunch of Idiots who think they are the only one's in the world. They are ruled by a prick of a president who kills their own troops, and other innocent people, anyway who cares what the yanks think, they are a bunch of morons! Well most of them anyway!!

After all most of these athletes are probably fitter,healthier, and more driven than the average American viewer.

I am supprised.
America is the home if free speech, political correctness, and making provision for less abled people.
Yes, the get it horribly wrong sometimes too, but the actually champion the underdogs cause.
To be quite honest, the States are pretty good at raising awareness of the less fotunate.
And yes, all said without a smirk.
OK, so they dropped the ball on a few, like womens rights, racial equality, and democracy, but I think they got the cripples right.
Not being on telly was probably just a financial looser.

You know - I know its very un PC but I just can't get my head round this paraolympics thing. I'm trying hard but I just can't hold back a huge WHO CARES! Naughty eh. I'll get lots of slaps for that I know. But I really can understand why the networks in the US, or anywhere else for that matter opted outed the (who knows how much $$$$) to broadcast it. Good luck to those competing and who knows it could be me tomorrow in a wheel chair,and having something like the paraolympics would be a great thing to do if that happend to me. What some of those athletes achieve with only 3 limbs etc is truly superhuman..... but I'm sorry, I just can't get excited about it at all....and I guess in the end there's too many people at home who are bad like me....who change channels when it comes on.

Ive been working at a place where they rehabilitate people with spinal injuries. And yep some of them rode bikes. I dont want to met anyone from here there either. But over the last couple of years Ive seen heaps of them slowly recover from wheel chair bound to walking slowly with a walking stick. The look of concentration on their faces is inspiring. But what I was wondering is if there is sport that they would be faster at, something where say not having legs would mean you'd have a power to weight advantage over able bodied people? and if that was the case would they be allowed to compete in the main olympics?

Personally I couldnt give a monkeys what condition people are in sound or otherwise. I just watch it because I happen to like athletics and anything that aint rugby and golf.

I dont watch it either... not because it's paralympics, didnt watch the olympics either. booooring. dont watch rugby (dont know the rules) cricket takes too long.the AFL is alright (if my teams playing)
only sport I watch is motorsport. probably coz I'e been around cars and bikes all my life.
good on the paralympians for getting out there and having a go, but why wasnt it on at primetime? really annoyed me that they cut motorsport for it.
