Ok so one day i go to start it and it doesnt fire, just click. I figure the battery is flat somehow so i crash start it and go for a 45min ride. Get to mates place turn it off then it fires up off the button, mint problem solved. Go to work on it the next day and it was fine to start in the morning. Evening and it kinda chugged a lil then fired fine. Next day click again, crash start ride for hour odd and still wont fire from the button, its crash starting piece of cake and all the lights etc seem to go fine. Replaced the battery last night and its still just click. Im picking it must be the starter motor but does anyone have any other ideas or a test i can do to make sure its faulty before i replace another part thats ok.

There is a contactor (relay) which allows high current power to go to the stater motor. The switch on the handlebar is wayyyy to small to handle the juice.
Find this contactor........ it's either part of the motor or is a seperate item. It sounds as though the two contacts aren't coming together properly.
Most manufacturers dont supplt new contacts..... you have to buy the whole replacement part.

tested with multi meter last nite
positive on starter gets 13v odd when the buttons pushed so its getn power through the relay. i also bypassed everything and ran a cable from positive on battery to positve on starter, still no joy

If the starter is getting 13 - odd volts and not cranking, it's faulty. A set of brushes is in order as the first step.

Had the same problem with my impulse. Brought another starter from the wreckers for about $50, problem solved.
$145 sounds excessive, try wreckers.

Hi
Has your bike done a lot of KM's?
If its just brushes and Honda sells them go that way but if it's the armature
it's stuffed! If you are careful taking it apart wont be a problem to check.
I imagine $145 is beacuse these are a 250cc bike that's very popular, normally
one could cost a lot less.
Suzuki brushes are around $50 or so genuine and you can also buy the front oil seal and housing seals.
CBR's are great bikes.

Take your one to an autoelectrician.

False economy - it's probably almost as worn. I had my VF1000R one rebuilt for $65 with new brushes, bearings & the armature tested & skimmed.
