Buy it mate.

Theres a guy in Auckland who had his Mach IIIH1 in at Mt Eden Motorcycles a month or so back. Its was brown. Was in concourse condition. Immaculate.

Then he started it up.
The sound from that 2 stroke triple was absolutely amazing....

Did you ever ride one?

I suggest you do so before spending your hardearned $$$

While they may look good, and the motor was amazing for its day, the frame is - how shall we say - known for its inability to match up

Or would you just keep it as a garage queen?

Paul in NZ
29th June 2007, 09:01
Yes - I've ridden most things one way or another but a mate had one of the sculpted tank - drum brake versions back in the early 70's. I never found it much worse than the old shitters we trolled about on in the handling stakes but it's power delivery was different.

From memory we put some girlings on the back from a mates triumph, thicked oil in the front and he put better tyres on it and it improved sight out of mind. The frames were no worse than the opposition but the std shocks.. Bah! I always wanted one with spannies 'cos it was a nifty noise....

Garage queen? Erm.... no..... I keep my bikes a long time and they all get thrashed and they all explode at some time and i fix em (sometimes)

as a public service i have run the bidding up to within 15% of his reserve. Since we dont know exactly where that 15% started we're speculating, but my guesstimate is $6500. Given that the serious money will only come out to play with ten minutes to go in the auction, he may well get what he wants, and if two obsessives REALLY want the thing then we all might be surprised.

I wouldnt pay that for it, but then I am not the one seriously bidding. Ive ridden both the 500 and the 750 and while a bunch of fun, I prefer my SOHC Honda 4's, or CBX's or Z1's or RD/RZ 250/350's....

If you want it, buy it: they arent making any more of them, and we're all a long time dead................

It's nice alright, but it ain't an H-1 or H-1A.
Now, they are the real deal :gob:

I might be biased, especially with the wee pic of one being ridden hard in my signature..........

That's right Paul. Justify the purchase any way you can.

Repeat after me:
"Must satisfy illogical motorcycling desire"
"Must satisfy illogical motorcycling desire"
"Must satisfy illogical motorcycling desire"

And soon that big 2 stroke will ring-a-ding-ding into the garage.

Oh - You've seen our garage then??? Please remember you are talking to a guy thats has a Sunbeam-Talbot as his family car (no - not that long ago), a WW2 Daimler Armoured Car as a city run-about (yes really but I was young) and thinks the FZR400 is pretty 'modern' and once hotted up a solex...

I didnt get it. My autobid was up to ~1600 (I thought for something that had been parked in a shed for 8 years that I hadnt seen and didnt know ran or what was missing..... that $1500 was plenty, add ten percent plus a bit and away we go. It eventually sold for $2100 plus so I was waaaay under.

my disappointment is that theres been nothing like it since, (there was a good RD350A but it went for near four grand)... and, shit, I wanted it.... :(

but thinning the herd and then F3 bike are present priorities.

Oh true, it would have been a reasonable buy at around the $1500 mark but for safeties sake there would have been a major exploratory strip down done and a few hundred spent on replacing suspect bits.

I saw that RD350

temptation has the better of me with these 2 bikes
