Dingdong's Bucket

In my quest to find a cheap track-day bike I purchased a ct125 bucket racer from the KB trader, wanabrider wanted $370 for it... I had no problems parting with the cash or the drive from Tauranga to Napier to pick it up.

What I liked: Good tyres, disk on the front, clip-ons, good tank and tail and it ran pretty well too... but there were a few problems.

What I didnt like: I'm WAY too big for it, couldnt down shift (because the raisers were too high for me) didnt have room for my arms because the clip-ons were too far back.

My plans started...

Saturday 23rd June
I pushed the clip-ons forward and lowered about 20mm (easy), then ripped the foam off the seat pan, it was glued so I needed to grind the old shit off ready for new foam (a little higher this time round).
I raised the back of the tank to match the new (soon to be) seat hieght.
Took the huge chome side covers off and modified.

Sunday 24th June
Pulled the gear linkage off and modified the gear lever (reverse set up), I also droped the pegs but found that it was still too high and the current frame would be able to mount anything any lower, the rear brake lever would reach either so I knew the whole rear frame would need to be cut out and re-made... no problem... I'll do it after I sort the seat hight, couldnt get any foam Sunday so It need to wait until Monday.

Monday 25th June
After work, shot down to Para rubber, picked up some 15mm Foam (see pick for lable) and rubber edges for the side covers because there were super sharp after the mod.
Managed to cut the seat shape and glue two layers (30mm) before bed time.

Tuesday 26th June
After work, out with the grinder and shaped the seat, I had to cut a dip for my butt near the rear of the seat just to hold me from sliding forwards, then I sanded with a orbital sander using 280 gritt... turned out great (see final photo for finished seat)

Wednesday 27th June
After work, stipped the rear brake lever assembly, pegs and gear lever ready for the big cut to the rear frame, sanded (240 grit) bike down ready for paint the next day.
It was bloody cold Wednesday and I was a little freaked that It might all turn to shit on me so I made ready a couple of lamps.

Thursday 28th June
I went to Repco to buy paint ($30 in cans) and shot home quick before the sun went down on me (15 degrees minimum or you'll get frosting)
Primered the tail and tank, alls sweet, sanded and put the first coat on... fuck me! the tail is acrylic! sand, sand and a few swear words later I had the thing painted... Orange... cooool... in my rush I ended up with a finger mark on the tank and a wobble on the tail where I scraped the paint off.
Otherwise it turned out OK

With the lamps doing over time on a cold night I measured and cut the decals ready to apply Friday afternoon.

Friday 29th June (today... if you read this today)
Worked for an hour or two, but then got stuck into the bike (it just happened to be on my ute...)
Cut the rear frame and bent/ fabricated a new one, made new peg mounts that are angled outwards about 45 degrees to give me more width and I made a new brake lever mount.
Re-mounted the pegs and modified the brake assembly and spring.
Attached the side covers and applied the decals.

Finished about 3pm, got home at 3:30pm and hooned off down the street... Mr Police man gave chase and pulled me over... he seemed pretty interested in the bike and pretty much just talked bikes for 10 minutes and told me to go and get a helmet, WATADUDE!

I dont know WAT to think about that?!... yes I do know a CT is a farm bike... but the only thing CT is the back-bone, engine and engine mounts... it's not a motard, I think your wierd...:Punk:

BLARDY awsome wayne, you've really bought the life back into this little baby. the paint is top notch, rear section looks a thousand percent better. be proud of her and take care shes a beuty. One day id love the knowledge to completely change a bike around. (maybe i should get a rat bike to play with)

ummm you aint seen some of the bucket racers down here then ;) Anyone can race a bucket, even me. :yes: One of our better racers is well over 6ft.

I can get on and make it move... but at 135kg it wont go too fast (poor little thing) and it feels really wierd getting off the side, there is much less resistance than I'm use to and it feels like the fronts going to turn in... more practice will help I'm sure
