Is ok to carry a passenger on a moped, but it needs footpegs - maybe an engineer could add some for you.

I think if it doesn't come with footpegs for a pillion, it's not supposed to be used to carry two people

I agree with both of these. If you have them added you may get the run around (getting them cert blah blah - maybe but unsure...) but is this really the sort of thing you want to do to your jog? Was it designed for 2 up? How big are you and your passenger?

Before adding pillion pegs I would check and see what the maximum load capacity is. Riding overloaded is an easy way to lose control.

You'll fuck it....they're not strong enough to have a pillion on the back.

I thought mopeds (as opposed to scooters) weren't allowed to carry passengers by law?

And if you're telling me you can bolt pillion pegs to a bike not originally designed to carry passengers -- legally -- and I'm not allowed to put a single racing seat on my bike, somebody is going to pay in blood.

You are allowed to carry passengers, but as others have pointed out, it may overload the scooter. Technically it would have to be re-complied - but mopeds dont need a WOF anyway.

Lots of mopeds rated for 200kgs, but none I know of from China.

I ahd a 50cc gliera ice that had foot pegs for a passenger and the max load was 160Kgs

and in a previous life before I had it someone rented it out and you were legially allowed to have a passenger as it had one of those rental vechiles certs

You will probably find the max weight allowed on the actual scooter mate, look around for a sticker. Personally I would not go there, you will root the thing, if it did not come kitted out for a pillion the manufacturers will not have allowed for it in the design.

My Chinese 50cc has a max weight of 140kg (http://www.nzecobikes.co.nz/liberty.html)

I've had around 200kg's on it for SHORT trips, with no real problems other than scraping the stand on left handers. :Punk:
But I manage that with just myself on it as well. (105+ kgs)

What I need is an Indian built scooter :p

Even with all of those Indians on board, they are so thin, the total is probably less than 140kg!!
