View Full Version : Draggin' jeans: Part Deux

Well, as part of my learning experience as a newb biker - I found out what ATGATT truly means, my low side bin off a corner at Raglan tested the gear I was riding with...

I slid quickly and did one rolly-polly the Draggin's did its job and didn't allow any part of my skin to come in contact with abrasive substances :sweatdrop :eek5: I didn't have the hip or knee armour installed. If I did I reckon I wouldn't have got the minor grazing on my right knee (you can see that in pic 3 with the yellow kevlar material exposed)

Other patches were where I made contact with the road/gravel and it's apparant how quick holes can appear!

And this is what happened to my gloves ... I think they were palm up when I kicked myself off the bike as it started to lowside. The right one took an absolute pounding :gob: Just have two minor grazes on my knuckles ... good gear from Quasi and I've just ordered a replacement pair from him! (Thanks Paula!)

The left is a bit scuffed up, mud all over the palms...

Well, it looks like a mud-splattered Sam Peckinpah episode "Dum-Dum Rides off Raglan"

I had a rainproof over-coat on and it's lost its water resistant qualities now! More holes in it than a Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions film.

Tankbag ripped off and tumbled along..with the GPS unit bearing ground down under the plastic map cover. Time to shop for a new GPS unit and tankbag!

The helmet did it's job and ended up with scratching down the right temple side. This must have occurred when I flipped over on the ground. Time to buy a new lid!

I think this is just all an excuse to buy new gear! :o :innocent:

Reflecting again on this whole experience - it still hasn't put me off biking, I still love it with a passion - just gotta remember to cut out the fun stuff like crashing :weep: Doesn't do wonders for your bank balance ... and it's a lottery when it comes to walking away with no major injuries. I can hear my mum say it now "And that's why I don't want you to ride motorbikes!" I take it under advisement and still want to throw my leg over two wheels of freedom everyday...

Glad you got thru the off ok mate, you should be able to claim for your gear on the contents insurance, I know I did.
I reckon the most satisfying thing after a bin is to be able to remove all the broken and scarred bits and go "hmmmm that could have been my arm/leg/head, glad I invested in the gear."

<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>A lot of the racers on here swear by his stuff, especially the leathers. Spidi gear is a lot better looking, however -- although it costs an arm and a leg, and because I'm only wearing Quasi gear, according to you I'll lose the arm and the leg anyway.

So it's like a Catch 22 or summat.

well my last pair (in both senses) of spidi gloves were crap - one small off left me with grazed palms... replaced with Quasi's sports gloves nearly 2 years ago - still in very good knick. Just bought another pair of his gloves today to go with a general change in gear colour.

Cant personally vouch for the rest of his gear as I dont have anything else, (although many others have), but more than happy with the gloves.

Hey J - did you get fright? I'm just looking at the big brown stain on the arse you understand!

Seriously - glad you're okay but wish you had put some armour in them tharr troosers.

I've still got the leather jacket from my bin a year ago. Took all the armour out and sewed up the holes and use it for walking about. I've got a Quasi jacket now, I always wear leather trousers with armour - I dont consider draggin jeans enough for a 100kph bin.

Hey J I dont consider draggin jeans enough for a 100kph bin.

I'm with you there Jim!

Nasty loves her draggins but I keep reminding her that I am now an hexpert at falling off and the armour has always done its job and I wouldn't be without it in my cordura gear.

Thy make a good sales pitch about the kevlar and this thread is a good example that it works for the low-sides at least but there's some big impact on the highside (trust me) and draggins have no protection for that

Aye, I take it all under advisement - I told my mum about my off and she was like "oh no...you need to get married son, so you can have someone to worry about you and look after you!" :eek5: Good ol'asian mum response! :sweatdrop

Yep, actually the funny thing was a worker at my old's shop said she had a dream ... about my just departed Grandma telling her to "watch out for the hands" ... spooky - my gloves were munted, I got a sore left hand and minor grazes on the right! Mum thought I had to be in an accident sure enuff!

My next set of draggins will have better armour system installed - looking at a proper armour set-up instead of the shite system they have at the moment (which is why I probably didn't bother with it! :innocent:) I'll probably get carried away and turn it into an exo-skeleton with endo-muscular reactive systems...

Quasi's gear is more than good enough. Sure, it might not have this year's latest design fad like Spidi or A*s, but it's bloody well made. Plenty of racers on here use them, and they're a number walking aorunds that look decidedly second-lhand, but have been for numerous slides down the asphalt without wearing through or splitting.

Cheers Sanx, as you know I went overseas to sought out the 07/08 range and I can say that the new styles are as good if not better in design and style than most on the market, additionally you will find the newer spec better than spidi or Alpinestar, the trip taught me alot about leathers and whats available, and more impotantly what is being offered in the market, I can safely say Most brands are made on a price point, not a quality specification point, We have not comprimised on either, we cannot afford to as we are closer to the NZ market rider than Spidi or Alpinestar will ever be,
Unlike them, I actually meet my riders who crash

That's different to the usual response seen hereabout, I can't comment personally as I don't have any.

Spidi is good gear, but it is expensive (I can comment on that) even when it's bought on "special".

A new rider might be better off with less expensive gear than they would riding around with bugger-all while saving for the more expensive stuff?

Anyhows, will be rocking down to E-town and getting a new one once I got my little ol'Hornet ship-shaped again. My motorcycling atlas of NZ still allows me to get lost in parts unknown in deepest, darkest NZ! :msn-wink:

Its my business how personal can you get ?
Why do you think quality is only found in big brand names like alpinestar and spidi etc ???? I can tell you my gear is as good a quality as any of it, Example
1/ how can a 1.1 mm thick Spidi be better quality than a 2mm thick leather ?
2/How can Spidi, nylon stitching be better than Kevlar ???
3/How can double stitching be better than QUASiMOTO (soon to be available) Quadriple stitching ?

I specify personally, I am the only one responsible for gear issues, Im here , Im on KB to recieve compliments and complaints, I am not hiding behind a retail counter saying I will ring the importer.........I am the importer, so to me your attack is personal as it has absolutely no substance at all, you dont wear my gear and dont have a qualified opinion, your comments are purely a slag of at me because you dont like me for your own reasons.
Im trying to do something good for the biker, if you want to cut me down (tall poppy style) go for it I got my customers to back me up and your opinion is as I say unqualified, you spend your money elsewhere go and support a foreign company that doesnt care, it suits me fine

I'm not trying to sell the 'shit', and I'd recommend it to anyone. 160km/h (45m/s, probably slide about 100m) lowside on the track, kevlar stitching fine, leather scuffed but I could've slid another km and it wouldn't have worn through. As it was, I wore it the next meet on the track with out any hesitation.

You seem to be one of the few who has a poor opinion of Quasi gear, maybe that's an indication that you should be less assured in making such venomous statements.

FWIW I bought a Quasi jacket and troos at the QGAAS thing that Colapop organised. I keep meaning to put up a formal "review" but this seems like a good time.

Short version: fucking stoked.

Longer version: I still find the leather on the front of the jacket to be a bit thick but it is wearing in as promised. The breathing zips, on the few chances I've needed to use them in earnest, have been wonderful. The breathable panels on the troos get a bit cold, which can be solved by putting some longer shorts on underneath. The overall impression is a curious mix of the gear sort of disappearing once you get on the bike - certainly none of the high speed inflation or flapping around you get with cordura - and a pleasing awareness that I'm wrapped in something that will take the majority of the grief should I hit the deck.

I've been slightly caught in the rain once or twice with no ill effects. It wasn't for long though.

Maybe Alpinestars or Spidi would be better kit, but I got my whole get up for less than the retail price of just the jacket for A*. I have no problem with knowing these are going to be my leathers for the next ten years and the only slight regret I have is not having the patience to custom order them with some different coloured panels.

I do get to support a KB'er, true, but the kit was considered on it's own merits and would not have been bought otherwise.

Like I said, stoked.

Dave

Of course you would say that as your trying to sell the shit

Well, I'm not trying to sell the 'shit'. I don't have any financial relationship with Quasi. I don't even own a single piece of his gear. Why? Well, when I bought my leather last year, I didn't know who Quasi was and didn't want to trust some bloke selling own-brand of leathers I'd never heard of. So, I went and bought my Rev'It suit. Since then, I've seen numerous people slide down the track in Quasi's gear (including Quasi himself). The leathers have stood up to all the abuse, and then some. I've seen people whose leather have been rolled, bowled and arseholed repeatedly and Quasi's gear has stood up fine. They just look a bit scruffy, that's all.

So, zrxer, until you can explain why Quasi's gear ain't as good as Spidi, A*s and the rest - preferably using reasoned and structured argument instead of just saying "it's shit" - why don't you just shut the fuck up and crawl back under whatever rock you oozed out from.

Hey Steve, sure you are entitled to an opinion, but Sanx point is a valid one - back it up with some experience/facts.

No different for any other topic on the forum - you say something is crap, someone's going to ask you to back it up.

If I was in Quasi's position, id take it pretty personally as well. Plenty of people on here (especially noob's keen to get good riding gear, without the disposible income you obviously have) consider buying his product - they deserve to know why you think you're justified to call it "shit".
