Hey im just wondering what kinda price anyone would be looking at for buying a 1986? (not sure, around this age anyway) Yamaha RD350, Mint Cond, 16,000 on the clock, hasnt been ridden for a few years but my uncle took her and got her running sounds like a buet
So just reply with 'pretend' bids and i'll consult my mother, the owner about any good sales :grouphug:
Peace Out

Don't think it will be an 86 but stand to be corrected. Is it the LC, or aircooled? The LC is in demand for post classic racing (well so are the aircooled ones but the LCs especially) and a good sound one is worth reasonable money

LC it is, ill just go check what year it is....
arg, cant find the owner thingee
Its pretty old tho, i was sure it was the same year i was born, dont know anyhow

Well it's a hard question but IMHO opinion (as a complete layman) if it was a mint registered serviced road legal concourse condition (you get the idea) bike to the right "collector" buyer it could be worth a few grand. But those guys are few and far between, and are (justifiably) fussy. If it's a shabby old heap of crap with rusty chrome and faded paint and dented tank and ripped seat and deregistered and not running (you get the idea!) it might be worth, at a guess, a grand or around that to someone as a project or a source of parts or the basis of a race bike. Your bike may fall somewhere in the middle...possibly??? Hard to tell 'cos there's so many variables.

Is it an original lc or does it have YPVS anywhere on the engine, in which case, it's a RZ350.
That would determine price and novelty value......
RZ's have more power and are supposedly easier to ride due to the power valves, since they broaden the power band a bit.
Either way, anything from a grand up.......

Jeez im learning New stuff about this bike all the time,
RZ350, 1983, LC, it has YPVS (i have no idea what that is) on the engine casing sorta thing from memory.
I wish i could ride it :S
Waddaya reckon? CBR600RR vs. YZF R1 vs. RZ350LC
Not just speed of course, aethetics, style, comfort, etc?
I have to think of what grown up bike im gonna get before i get stuck in the student loan quicksand

RZ350 is a gem,but kinda on the cusp. The older enthusiasts will go for the old LC,the young guys won't know what an RZ is,just some old 2stroke dunnga.Tell ya what - I've only got 10 bikes at the moment,so I have plenty of room to fit another in - dollar per CC,sounds a bloody good deal to me,I'll even pick it up and sweep the floor where it's been - what'd I tell ya,I'm a great guy....deal??

RD,LC,RZ all bloody neat bikes.
A good LC or RZ up to $2000,
A nice 70s RD350 went for $2500 on trade me resently.
They were horrible bikes, used to eat CB350 Hondas for breakfast. <_<
I had a CB.

1983 puts it outside the pre-82 cut off for PC racing and it wouldn't be competitive in pre-89, so I think that works against it value-wise. A buyer is really looking at it only as a bike to ride, not as a potential race bike, and there are a lot of competing choices if you're looking at 20 year old road bikes. I would guess an RD350LC would have more value than an RZ despite the RZ being a more modern/better bike.
Having said that, I'd take it off your hands for...oohhh...say $1.10 a cc :yeah: (sorry Motu...)

Just to add Confucius the RZs were sold in some other markets still called RD
My old ‘88 from memory was labelled RD but was a late model RZ350 YVPS with the full fairing. It was a stunning bike, I paid $2000 for it in the early 90s & had it for years. Sadly with the introduction of high aromatic content unleaded the days of the 2 stroke are probably a bit over. If you are going to be a student then an old 2 stroke is probably not a good idea.
What a neat bike they were though, wish you could buy a modern one, lighter than any 4 stroke making similar power could ever hope to be they were the true sportsbikes of the 80s. Sadly age has probably not done them well & you might end up with a wobbly bike in need of a few dollars to fix it up to former glory, only to have the crank kill itself as the rust build-up whilst sitting damaged the surface and/or the seals have gotten hard with inactivity/unleaded petrol.
Ignore all of above, offer a grand & keep pumping money into it as required, you can always leave uni & get a job. :2thumbsup
Oh yeah & I had a '73 350 years before that & it was a pig, but probably only because someone over-tyred it.

ok, it is a RZ350K. First of the YPVS models. Famous for dead CDI units and stators. They also have a different wiring loom and connection than the 84+ models so these bits can't be easily replaced.
Use the same sliding pin calipers as the previous non-YPVS 4LO LCs. Later models were better.
Value - with WOF and reg around $1k depending on condition. Rattles and big end knocks will reduce that a lot.

Read the instuctions.

The RD/RZ will run on 91 unleaded ok in stock trim.
Other known problems, apart from being thrashed to death are the powervalve linkages flogging out, and coking up if you use poor oil.
The front forks are really soft - use progressive springs and a bit more oil. I ran 6PSI in my air forks before I got the stiffer springs. The back shock flogs out - I have heard of others being made to fit (CBR??) but I would have to dig out the link. Alecs RD forum has lots of LC/YPVS nuts http://www.yamaha-rd.com/forum/

I cut 6 coils off my front springs & made a longer preload spacer to replace the lost length. Stiffens the spring rate quite nicely.

yeah but i want to actually make it perform decently before i slap some fibreglass on her. before i could do 0-100 in just a whisker under 4 secs, which is enough to kill skylines and nearly anything else:msn-wink: but i want to put some decent forks on it or maybe just fix the ones i have with racetech springs, gold valve emulators and of course rather heavy fork oil.
then i will try get it ported [my old man can do that if he had the time] and perhaps polished and i'll get maybe a stage three jet kit for it. then it should be around 60-65 rwhp, it currently has 56rwhp. if i was a clever cunt it would end up being injected and have a power commander:beer: and i'm sticking some pirrelli mtr23/mtr24 dragon gts's on her:devil2:  might paint her red..... or black...or matt black with gloss black flames.... or just plain red:niceone:

Whoa, timewarp back to sept 04
RDs 70hp? Sheesh! They may have felt like it, but no where near.
Rear wheel (say 10 less than lying manufacturers’ claim)
RGV250 ~50-55hp depending on year
TZR 1st model 47hp
RZ350 49hp
RD350LC ~ 45hp
An absolute full monty RZ350 would reach 70hp, but don’t expect that to survive on the road.
Tip: Power valves on the NSRs & RGVs will be seriously stuffed by now

Yeah, later found that out on some sites I searched up. If I had money I would be looking at a NSR and getting the TYGA goodies for it. Roughly 6000-7000 bucks will get you a 300cc bike with 70hp at the wheel which sounds like fun for a bike that weighs around 140kgs

Hey I missed the whole 3rd page before my reply & didn’t read Kickahas etc posts (he was talking the later Vtwin TZR). But also some Jap imports will only be 45hp & derestriction can be problematic. The RGV/KR1s were raced in Japan with F3 (their class) kits they were reaching 70hp. But basically this made them TZ spec & made to finish a race & not much longer.
I always thought is was a crying shame they never made a TZR400 twin, or (maybe V twin, let’s make it 500 while we are dreaming) to succeed the RZ350. I would have bought one.
Of course some crazys have thought about registering an old B model TZ. They’re cheap. Nah, screw it, where can I get a roadkit for an old NSR500V Twin? (& more importantly the bike itself for affordable $). Hey sounded like 2 CR250s goin’ off. Kewl!

While we're dreaming, how feesable is cutting the crankcases of 2 turbocharged hayabusa motors and stick them together with a modified crankshaft to create a V8? Imagine the noise, the power, droooollll. It should be making around 800+hp. But that's just a dream sadly
